If brushing, use a good quality soft paint brush, disposable. For Smooth DURABAK-M26, use a 3/16 nap mohair varnish roller. If spraying, please refer to the Continuation Sheet (Item VI). APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS. For cleaning, use Fluidar, Xylene, or OXSOL 100. IF PLURAL COMPONENT EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED, STATE SO - Not Required IF HEATED LINES ARE REQUIRED, STATE SO Not Required (e) SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS - None REPAIR PROCEDURES IF THE OVERCOAT WINDOW HAS BEEN EXCEEDED: DURABAK-M26 is repaired or over-coated (once cured), as it bonds to itself. (1) Cut out all damaged DURABAK-M26 to eliminate uneven edges; (2) Clean dirt from area to be repaired and rough up surrounding DURABAK-M26 with 60-grit sandpaper; (3) Clean area with OXSOL 100 or Fluidar; (4) On exposed surfaces to which DURABAK-M26 does not bond easily, a primer may be needed; (5) Brush, roll, or spray fresh DURABAK-M26 onto cleaned areas, as per instructions in NAVSEA Standard Items and When changing colors, simply use the new desired color in Step (5) above. 5 ASTM F 718 CONTINUATION SHEET FOR SHIPBUILDERS AND MARINE PAINTS AND COATINGS PRODUCT/PROCEDURE DATA SHEET I. GENERIC TYPE AND DESCRIPTION: Deck Coating, High Durability Specification Number, Type, Class and/or Grade (If Applicable): MIL-PRF ADDITIONAL DATA/ INSTRUCTIONS: II. MANUFACTURERS DATA Date July 7, 2010 Rev. 0 ADD ADDITIONAL COMMENTS FROM PART II HERE: THE CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF DURABAK-M26 SURFACES Because DURABAK-M26 cures to an impermeable membrane, all dirt sits on the surface. 1. Use any general non-chlorinated floor cleaner, from a neutral household cleaner to a degreaser. 2. For best results, use a stiff bristled deck brush to agitate cleaner on the surface. A cotton mop is not recommended, since pieces of mop may get caught on high profile surface. A synthetic fiber material mop may be used if a deck brush is unavailable. 3. Rinse surface thoroughly to remove all residue. 4. Remove all water with a sponge mop or water vacuum. III. PROPERTIES ADD ADDITIONAL COMMENTS FROM PART III HERE: CHLORINE. If left on the DURABAK-M26 surface, concentrated industrial strength chlorine will discolor DURABAK-M26. Immediately rinse off any concentrated chlorine with water. If touch-up is needed, please refer to VI (e) SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS, REPAIR PROCEDURES. IV. SURFACE PREPARATION MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ADD ADDITIONAL COMMENTS FROM PART IV HERE: DOs and DON Ts Always thoroughly clean the surface of all oily or waxy contaminants and use recommended cleaning solvent. Leave no residue. Always do a small test on the substrate to ensure adhesion. DO use only Oxsol100 or Fluidar cleaning solvent as last step before applying, only if necessary. DON T clean surfaces with lacquer thinners or any solvent containing alcohol. DO clean surface with strong aggressive detergent and rinse thoroughly. Then use Xylene or Fluidar to wipe the surface as a last step. Allow solvent to evaporate. DON T assume surface is clean unless you have cleaned it according to instructions. DO ensure surface is completely dry and/or catalyzed beforehand. DO test surfaces beforehand for adhesion with DURABAK-M26. V. MIXING PROCEDURES ADD ADDITIONAL COMMENTS FROM PART V HERE: DOs and DON Ts DON T shake can to mix. (Rubber granules will not mix evenly.) DO stir DURABAK-M26 thoroughly before application (preferably with an electric mixer) to keep rubber granules in suspension. DO keep DURABAK-M26 s rubber granules in suspension by stirring periodically VI. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS ADD ADDITIONAL COMMENTS FROM PART VI HERE: Apply non-slip DURABAK-M26 with special, open-foam stipple roller (only available through COTEL Industries, or an authorized DURABAK-M26 dealer. The special stipple roller is designed to evenly distribute the embedded rubber granules on application other rollers will cause clumping of the rubber granules. Roller sleeves are available in 9 and 4 sizes. One 9 roller sleeve is good for approximately 1 to 1½ gallons. For smooth DURABAK-M26,, use a 3/16 nap mohair varnish roller. Apply the first coat of DURABAK-M26 as a thin coat to fully cover. When touch dry usually within 1½ to 3 hours, apply second coat. To avoid mud cracking or pooling, do not apply too thickly. Between coats, pour a small amount of OXSOL 100 or Fluidar over rollers, so rollers will not dry out. Intercoat / curing time may be significantly shortened by the use of a special chemical accelerator additive available from COTE-L distributors. Extreme climatic conditions of heat, humidity and cold can shorten or lengthen this period. BRUSH APPLICATION DURABAK-M26 can be applied with a soft paint brush, in two coats at right angles to one another. (DURABAK-M26 is not a paint, and should be laid onto the surface in one direction, not brushed out like an oil or latex paint. Between coats, clean brush well with OXSOL 100 or Fluidar only. The second coat can be applied as soon as the first coat is touch-dry (usually within 1½ to 3 hours). Extreme climatic conditions of heat, humidity and cold can shorten or lengthen this period. SPRAY APPLICATION Use a conventional spray gun such as Binks #2001 with the following specifications or equivalent: 67 fluid nozzle; 567 fluid needle; 67 PB air cap; heavy-duty (# ) needle spring; 2-28 teflon fluid packing; ½ I.D. (#71-283) fluid hose with 3/8 connectors (#721333), and 3/8 I.D. air line with ¼ connectors (# ). To remove contaminants from the air line, use oil & water extractors mounted at the pressure tank, or use: Sears Craftsman No (or De Vilbiss AS 300) with external mix nozzle. Requires 7 CFM. Use compressor with 9 CFM at 50 psi. (For more information, call De Vilbiss Air Power Tools at (901) ) Or use: Airless spraygun: Graco Bulldog 33:1 with air intake pressure = 6-7 bar ( psi). Outlet pressure = 100 bar (± 3000 psi). Tip: in (i.e., thou). Delivery rate: 2.9 gallons per minute. DO apply DURABAK-M26 in at least two coats.
