2 TERMINOLOGY DEFINITIONS The definitions given below are those corresponding to the professional regulations in use for mobile partitioning from July 2007 For the requirements of this document the following definitions are applicable: Mobile partitioning: The term mobile partitioning refers to partitioning where the composing elements may be moved within a fixed structure which is part of the building. These elements are easy to move and can be used to separate or join almost instantaneously adjacent premises. Their characteristics are as follows: They are non-bearing partitions. These partitions cover the total height from floor to ceiling. NOTE: the word floor must be understood as floor, either technically speaking or the paving, and the word ceiling can mean either a fixed or a suspended ceiling. The panels are suspended on a network of rails which form part of the main structure. The mobile partitioning does not have a rail or any other guiding system for its lower section. NOTE: In the case where the upper structure is not made to bear the load of the mobile partition, the movement can be made with the lower section. The panels or their components are delivered on the construction site in their finished state corresponding to their final aspect. NOTE: Final aspect means that the various visible surfaces, in their assembled state, must arrive on the construction site with their final surface aspect. In some case the panels can arrive on the site with a surface state ready for the application of specific decorations. These partitions have the specified acoustic characteristics The mechanical stability and acoustic characteristics are guaranteed by means of upper and lower telescopic cross-pieces. Mono-direction partition A partition composed of centrally-suspended panels, possibly, connected in groups of 2 or more. The panels can only move under the rail positioned directly above and can only be stored at either end. Multi-direction partition A partition composed of independent panels each with 2 suspension points running in a rail system which may have different intersections. This means that the same panels can be used in different places on the same rail network. It also makes it possible to store panels in special zones known as storage zones or cupboards. Version 1.1EN - 5 February 2009 Page 5/20
Mobile face A mobile partition which is often glazed as a single panel and having no acoustic characteristics or telescopic cross-pieces but with a system locking it to the floor. Telescopic panel End panel consisting of mobile upper and lower cross-pieces as well as a telescopic post. A control system, often centralized, makes it possible to activate simultaneously the crosspieces and the upright post in order to create upper, lower, and lateral sound proofing with the surroundings. 3 CRITERIA AND PERFORMANCE 3.1 INSTALLATION CRITERIA The criteria and performances given hereafter are those stipulated in professional regulations for mobile partitioning dating from July COMPENSATING FOR IMPERFECTIONS IN SUPPORT In order to compensate for any imperfections in the support, partitions are designed to absorb the following degrees of imperfection: Floors: Mobile partition In relation to the level line: ± 6.0 mm Flatness: 5 mm maximum on a 2-m ruler Mobile face In relation to the level line: ± 3.0 mm Flatness: 3 mm maximum on a 2-m ruler Fixed ceilings: In relation to the level line: ± 12.5 mm Flatness: 12.5 mm maximum on a 2-m ruler Vertical parts: Mobile partition Verticality against a floor-to-ceiling post or face: 10 mm distance from mid-point Flatness: 5 mm maximum on a 2-m ruler Mobile face 4 mm maximum distance from mid-point Version 1.1EN - 5 February 2009 Page 6/20
3.1.2 ABSORPTION OF SURFACE UNEVENNESS Mobile partitioning must be equipped around the edge with systems capable of absorbing surface roughness and bumps as defined in SPEED OF ASSEMBLY The criterion for speed of partitioning assembly is determined during the trial run in 4.1 and the time recorded. This time must be inferior to: - 14 hours for one fitter, or - 7 hours for two fitters Once the assembly operation completed, the laboratory checks that no points of light shine through on the opposite side to the strip-lights. This characteristic is mandatory in order to obtain the «CER.F.F. test certification for a partition model» MANEUVERING EFFORT LOCKING/UNLOCKING EFFORT For each panel installed, a measurement will be made of the efforts that will be applied for the locking and unlocking parts EFFORT TO TRIGGER MOVEMENT After unlocking each panel it will be checked that if after a dynamic effort created by the dropping of 13kg mass from a height of 0.10m on the precise part in question and in the direction of movement of the part, the result is the triggering of the movement of each of the panels. This characterization is mandatory in order to obtain the «CER.F.F. test certification for a partition model» EFFORT FOR HORIZONTAL MOVEMENT Each panel is moved horizontally to its storage position (partition in folded position). The effort required to carry out this horizontal movement from the point of departure to the storage position of each panel will be measured. After folding the panels, they are then moved, one after the other, to the other end of the test frame. The effort required to carry out this action will also be measured. This characterization is mandatory in order to obtain the «CER.F.F. test certification for a partition model» MANEUVERABILITY AND MOBILITY Each panel is moved from one extremity to the other within the test frame. After this, a complete cycle of storage and unfolding is carried out. The complete cycle time will be recorded and the laboratory will keep note of the recorded time. This characterization is mandatory in order to obtain the «CER.F.F. test certification for a partition model» Version 1.1EN - 5 February 2009 Page 7/20
3.2 IMPACT RESISTANCE AND PERMANENCY The following criteria and performance indicators correspond to professional regulation stipulations for mobile partitioning dating from July IMPACT RESISTANCE AND PERMANENCY The partitions undergo testing in accordance with test conditions and methods presented in : The soft-body impact of 250 J is applied by means of a 50-kg bag, falling in swinging movement, with no initial speed, from a height of 0.50 m. The impact is applied at the centre of a partitioning module, in accordance with the standardized testing defined in the P Standard. Immediate deformation on the partition at the moment of impact is measured, as well as residual deformation. Any deterioration of the partition is also noted. This characterization is mandatory in order to obtain the «CER.F.F. test certification for a partition model» 3.3 RESISTANCE TO HORIZONTAL THRUST The following criteria and performance indicators correspond to professional regulation stipulations for mobile partitioning dating from July Resistance to horizontal thrust is characterized by the residual deformation obtained after applying a 50-daN load in accordance with the conventional testing conditions described in The residual deformation is limited to 3 mm. This characterization is mandatory in order to obtain the «CER.F.F. test certification for a partition model» 3.4 FATIGUE STRENGTH OF THE LOCKING/UNLOCKING SYSTEM The locking/unlocking system for the panels is operated 7000 times in a locking then unlocking direction. After this test, the maneuver effort applied on the locking and unlocking parts is measured following the description in This characterization is mandatory in order to obtain the «CER.F.F. test certification for a partition model» 3.5 FATIGUE STRENGTH OF THE PANEL-SHIFTING SYSTEM The panel-shifting system will be equipped with a 200-kg load. This system is tested on a frame where it is possible to do horizontal movement totalling m, or repeated movements on the horizontal tracks or rails. After testing, the horizontal-shift effort is measured in accordance with the description in Version 1.1EN - 5 February 2009 Page 8/20
This characterization is mandatory in order to obtain the «CER.F.F. test certification for a partition model» 3.6 FATIGUE STRENGTH OF THE PARTITION/DOOR-BLOCK SYSTEM The following criteria and performance indicators correspond to professional regulation stipulations for mobile partitioning dating from July The fatigue strength of the partition/door-block system is characterized by the clearance variations and the maneuver effort after having carried out a cycle of opening/closing actions in the conventional testing conditions described in This characterization is mandatory in order to obtain the «CER.F.F. test certification for a partition model» 3.7 SOUND INSULATION This requirement is characterized by the sound reduction index R A (Rw + C) of the partition to be evaluated according to the conditions defined in 4.5. Within the framework of the procedure for «CER.F.F. test certification for a partition model», the different values of this index, depending on the set up, either for a dismountable or removable partition, must be as follows: - Full partition: 41 db - Full partition with full door block: 35 db - Glass partition: 38 db This characterization is mandatory in order to obtain the «CER.F.F. test certification for a partition model» 3.8 RECAPITULATIVE CHARTS ASSEMBLY DISMANTLING Characteristics Tests Basic criteria for CER.F.F. CER.F.F. option Sound insulation index R A (Rw + C) Full partition 41 db Full door block 35 db Glass partition 38 db 4 TESTING METHODS The following testing methods correspond to professional regulation stipulations for mobile partitioning dating from July Sound testing is to be carried out before mechanical testing 4.1 ASSEMBLY TESTING PRINCIPLE This test consists in verifying on different conventional assemblies the possibility of adjusting to meet tolerances of supports and rapidity of assembly. The material is to be stored in proximity to the test frame. The assembly (and dismantling) work may only be carried out by a maximum of two people. Assembly, of the rail, the end pieces, the panel with telescopic post, of the panel with integrated door as well as a standard full panel, by the personnel provided by the person who requested the test, in a frame as described in The panels are then locked in place. The assembly operation followed by locking is timed. The laboratory takes note of this time. The laboratory verifies the material presented and notes whether all the criteria stipulated in 3.1 have been respected. The time recorded must be less than: - 14 hours for one fitter, or - 7 hours for two fitters DESCRIPTION OF THE TEST SETUP The representative partition is installed in a rigid frame the dimensions of which are defined in Figure 1. This frame must have some imperfections in its dimensions, however these imperfections must be situated at the limits of the possible imperfection values as indicated in A typical example is given in Figure 2. Version 1.1EN - 5 February 2009 Page 11/20
The additional material necessary to carry out the test consists of a strip-light with 100-W light bulbs DESCRIPTION OF THE PARTITION ELEMENTS TO BE TESTED The laboratory identifies the different elements required as described below: - The mobile partition kit is composed of 3 panels one of which is fitted with a door block. Door dimensions: - Width of passage: 800 to 900 mm, - Height: to mm. The technical characteristics and the type of assembly for the door are to be specified in the report TESTING OPERATIONS Verification of the full-partition assembly. Assembly in the frame as defined in 4.1.2, using 3 full panels and a door block. The laboratory verifies the material presented and notes whether the criteria stipulated in 3.1 have been respected. The laboratory checks the tightness of the peripheral sealing by means of the strip-light. No point of light should be visible on the opposite side of the partition to the strip-light. 13 4.1.5 TOTAL DURATION The laboratory calculates the total duration of operations. 4.2 MEASUREMENT OF MANEUVER EFFORT The following testing methods correspond to professional regulation stipulations for mobile partitioning dating from July GENERALITIES The tests must be carried out on partition mock-ups representative of those to be provided and/or assembled in practice and these mock-ups must be placed in an appropriate test setup. Whenever possible, the assembly of the test object must be carried out by the person who requested the test TEST OBJECT The mock-up must be selected with care so that it represents totally the type of partition. Normally the mock-up must be a partition that is commonly made, and manufactured in strict conformity with the drawings, the specifications and the manufacturer s instructions for implementation. Generally speaking, the test must be made on the tallest of the partitions in the range as these tend to be less sturdy. The partitions which are not as tall can be considered at least as strong. However, it may be necessary to check several mock-ups in order to obtain information on the range of options available for a given system, for example, partial glass or full glass, changes in the size of elements throughout the range, thicknesses, construction particularities in corners and at junctions and the incorporation of all the necessary accessories. The number and the position of attachment points between panels and individual elements must also be considered. The mock-up must be an assembly of several lengths of partition and must represent the whole partition system, including necessary accessories and attachments with the seals at the top, at the bottom, at extremities and in intermediate positions. The partition mock-up must include all the integrated components, such as glass, which may have a negative effect on the levels of performance attained. If the test object does not include a door in the partition system, a type of door, commonly used with the type of partition system being tested must be installed in the opening. The door opens towards the observer. The height of the mock-up must be that fixed by the manufacturer. The means used to fix the components one to another must correspond to the real conditions of use, in particular regarding the characteristics, type and position of attachments and the distance separating them CONDITIONING Mock-up conditioning must be recorded. The conditioning period is fixed in agreement with both the person requesting the testing and the authority in charge of testing TESTING METHODS LOCKING/UNLOCKING EFFORTS For each panel that is set up, there will be the measurement of the effort necessary to operate the locking and unlocking devices. This must not exceed 8 dan for either hand EFFORT TO TRIGGER MOVEMENT Version 1.1EN - 5 February 2009 Page 13/20
After unlocking each panel, it is necessary to check whether following the dynamic effort obtained by the fall of 13 kg from a height of 0.10 m, exerted on the part in question, in the direction of movement as required, the movement for each panel is triggered correctly EFFORT FOR HORIZONTAL MOVEMENT Each panel is brought to its storage position by mean of a horizontal movement (partition in folded position). The effort required to produce this horizontal movement will be measured for each panel from its departure point to its storage point. After folding the panels they are then moved one after the other to the other end of the test frame. The effort necessary to carry out this new movement is also measured. It must be checked that the effort required does not exceed 10 dan. Figure 2 : Effort de translation Figure 2: Effort for horizontal movement MANEUVERABILITY AND MOBILITY Each panel is moved from one end of the test frame to the other. Then a complete cycle of storage and unfolding is carried out. The time required for a complete cycle is measured and the laboratory takes note of this time.. Figure 3: Maneuverability Version 1.1EN - 5 February 2009 Page 14/20
4.3 RESISTANCE TESTS SOFT-BODY IMPACT During the soft-body impact test the frontal shift must be measured. To do this, a shift sensor must be fixed to the rear of the test mock-up, opposite the point of impact. Mobile partitioning The impact zone must be located at a height of 1.5 m above the floor, unless this corresponds to a horizontal piece of the partition framework, in which case, the height of the centre of impact can be chosen between 1.2 and 1.7 m above the floor, at a point which corresponds to the greatest distance in relation to the subjacent framework. The soft-body impact of 250 J is applied by means of a 50-daN bag, falling with a swinging movement, with no initial speed, from a height of 0.50 m. The impact is applied at the centre of the full partition module, in accordance with the standardized test defined in the NF P standard. Measurements are made of the immediate deformation of the partition on impact and the residual deformation. Any deterioration in the partition itself is also to be noted. The partition must bear no permanent deformation or structural damage HARD-BODY IMPACT The impact body and the testing procedure are those corresponding to the NF P standard. The impact must be made at least ten times, each time in a different place. The diameter of any indentation must be pointed out. All signs of deterioration caused by the impacts must be noted TESTING RESISTANCE TO A HORIZONTAL THRUST The aim of this test is to measure the resistance of a partition to a horizontal thrust. This test is applicable to mobile partitioning TESTING PRINCIPLE This test consists in measuring the deformation of a representative mobile partition under the effect of point horizontal thrust DESCRIPTION OF CONVENTIONAL TEST SETUP The representative partition is installed in a rigid frame with dimensions corresponding to those given in Figure 1. This frame must have some imperfection sin its dimensions. However these dimensions must be within the limits of the possible imperfection values as indicated in A typical example is given in Figure 1. The necessary material for testing consists of: - a thrust system capable of producing an effort progressively up to 50 dan and maintaining it for at least 10 seconds; Version 1.1EN - 5 February 2009 Page 15/20
- an effort-distribution plate on the partition as described in Figure 5. The rubber pad must have a Shore hardness of 70; - an effort sensor able to measure efforts up to 100 dan with a tolerance of ± 0.5 dan; - a shift sensor able to measure movements up to 150 mm with a tolerance of ± 1 mm; - a detection and recording system able to measure effort and movement continuously TESTING OPERATIONS The partition installed in the frame described in above, is to consist of elements with a distance between axes of mm. The thrust is to be applied via the effort distribution plate at a height of 1.50 m from the floor and on to a joint or post between two elements as illustrated in Figure 4. The shift sensor is placed on the surface of the partition, located directly opposite the effort but on the same axis. The effort is applied progressively, over at least 30 seconds, until an effort of 50 dan is reached. This effort is maintained for 10 seconds then released progressively in at least 30 seconds. The reading of deformation is made with an effort of 50 dan at the end of the 10 seconds, then the residual deformation is measured 30 seconds after releasing the effort. Note is taken of any degradation CRITERIA TO RESPECT - residual deformation is limited to 3 mm ; - after the thrust there must be no degradation, in particular, no denting, apart from authorized residual deformation F = 50daN 1500 Figure 4: Test setup Version 1.1EN - 5 February 2009 Page 16/20

After this test, the maneuver effort necessary for the locking/unlocking system is measured according to FATIGUE STRENGTH OF THE PANEL SHIFTING SYSTEM The typical panel shifting system will be equipped with a 200-kg load. This system is tested on a frame where it is possible to do horizontal movement totalling m, and repeated movements on the horizontal tracks or rails. After testing, the horizontal-shift effort must not be higher than that given in In addition there must be no permanent deformation, no looseness or wear which could affect the quality of the partition FATIGUE STRENGTH OF THE PARTITION/DOOR BLOCK This test consists in measuring the variation in clearance and opening/closing effort before and after a fatigue strength test of openings and closings of a representative door block DESCRIPTION OF THE TEST SETUP The door block, installed in its partition, is positioned in a rigid frame whose inner dimensions are as follows: - Width : 1.20 m - Height : 2.50 m Version 1.1EN - 5 February 2009 Page 17/20
The door block is the same as the one used previously for acoustic testing. The material necessary for testing consists of: - a system to manage opening/closing cycles of 6 ± 2s. The fixing point for this opening/closing system must be on the door block in the position of the door handle used for maneuvering. - a system to measure maneuver effort on both the opening and closing of the door, capable of measuring effort up to 10 ± 0.5 N. - shims of different thicknesses to measure the clearance between the door frame and the door leaf TESTING OPERATIONS This fatigue strength test must be carried out after the acoustic testing ( 4.5). The door block and its partition are positioned in the testing setup and the clearances and maneuver efforts are measured. For this test, the lock and handle for door maneuver are removed. The opening/closing cycles are carried out without any maintenance. At the end of the cycles, measurements are made in exactly the same places as previously for clearance and maneuver effort. Any degradation to the door block or partition is noted CRITERIA TO RESPECT - Clearances must not have varied by more than 2 mm. - The maneuver effort must not have varied by more than 30 % before and after the fatigue strength test. This effort must not exceed, either before or after fatigue strength testing, a value of 5 dan. - No important degradation in the door block or in the partition, such as unhooking or unclipping of components. Version 1.1EN - 5 February 2009 Page 18/20
TEST REPORT - The test report must indicate if it is possible to include in the validity of the test, partitions reaching a height of 3 m (if not, specify the maximum height). - This report must indicate the weight of the door tested. 4.5 SOUND INSULATION The following criteria and performance indicators correspond to professional regulation stipulations for mobile partitioning dating from July The aim of this test is to measure the sound insulation index of a partition TESTING PRINCIPLE The test is carried out in conformity with the corresponding test standards currently in application. NOTE: Currently, the standards applied are the following: the test is carried out according to the standard NF EN ISO The index, previously expressed in db (A), is now formulated in terms of an index according to EN ISO expressed in db, R w, accompanied by the term C for adaptation. The sum of R w + C replaces the previous value R rose in db(a). This index is called R A, "weighted sound-insulation index". Thus R A = R w + C. This new index R A expressed in db is very close to the former index R rose expressed in db (A). Generally, R A R rose ELEMENTS OR MODULES REQUIRED FOR TESTING OPERATIONS The testing setup, according to Figure 6, is made with the same elements or modules, as those used for the assembly tests. Test n 1 Test on full partition The partition has 3 full elements and 2 side-connection elements. Test n 2 Test on full partition with full integrated door block The door block must be integrated in the central element of the tested partition. For removable partitions no dismantling must take place on the adjoining modules. Test n 3 Test on glass partition The test on an all-glass partition must be included within the framework of the procedure «CER.F.F. TEST CERTIFICATION FOR A PARTITION MODEL». The glazing must reach a maximum height, allowing for the upper finishing, which differs according to the designer (minimum imposed height is mm). In both cases, the total width of the glazed part (a minimum of 3 modules) will measure a minimum of mm. The test report will specify exactly the geometry and composition of the elements tested.
