1 CBI March 2002 GIB Quiet Clip Features and Benefits No special flooring systems required Easy fit Installation Significantly improves low frequency sound transmission Significantly improves low frequency impact insulation Superior, cost effective noise control for floor/ceiling systems Fully tested for use with GIB Noise Control Systems A reduction in low frequency sound such as bass stereo and footfall noise is clearly noticeable when the is installed correctly. NZ Patent Application Number

2 TECHNICAL INFORMATION PERFORMANCE COMPARISONS STC and IIC ratings The ability of a floor/ceiling to reduce noise is expressed as the Sound Transmission Class (STC) for airborne noise, and the Impact Insulation Class (IIC) for impact noise. Examples of airborne noise are people talking, the TV or stereo being played. Examples of impact noise are people walking, scratching chairs or items being dropped on a floor. STC The ISO standard laboratory test for airborne noise exposes a specimen to noises over a frequency range between 100 and 3150 Hz. On the basis of the noise reduction achieved over this range, a single figure STC rating is calculated. This single figure STC rating does not provide any information about the system s performance when exposed to any particular frequency. The laboratory test also does not consider the performance in the frequency range below 100 Hz, where base thumping noises are most annoying. The The performance of the may not be immediately evident from the single figure STC rating. However, low frequency noises in the Hz are dampened and will be experienced by occupants as much softer and more acceptable. Figure 1 compares the STC performance of the standard GIB Rondo Direct Fixed Clip with the. Airborne Sound Reduction Standard GIB Clip Frequency Hz Figure 1. Low frequency STC performance enhancement achieved by using the Notes for guidance The higher the bar, the better the performance a 3dB difference in any frequency is noticed by most people a 5dB difference is clearly noticeable IIC The ISO standard laboratory test for impact noise uses a tapping machine exposing a specimen to impact frequencies ranging from 100 to 3150 Hz. On the basis of the noise reduction achieved over this range, a single figure IIC rating is calculated. This single figure IIC rating does not provide any information about the system s performance against any particular frequency. The laboratory test also does not consider the performance in the frequency range below 100 Hz where footfall impact noise (walking) is most annoying. The Again the performance of the is not immediately apparent from the single figure IIC rating. However, Figure 2 shows that low frequency impact noises are dampened significantly. Occupants will experience the loudness of footfall noise in the frequency range from Hz as much softer and more acceptable. Impact Sound Received Standard GIB Clip Frequency Hz Figure 2. Low frequency IIC performance enhancement achieved by using the Notes for guidance The lower the bar, the better the performance a 3dB difference in any frequency is noticed by most people a 5dB difference is clearly noticeable
