1 SECTION GENERAL 1.1 SCOPE: A. This section covers the work necessary for the construction of sanitary and storm system manholes, catch basins, and miscellaneous concrete structures complete. Manhole details are shown in the drawings. 1.2 RELATED SECTIONS A. Section Soil and Aggregate Materials B. Section Trenching C. Section Storm Drainage Systems D. UPC - Latest Edition of Uniform Plumbing Code as Adopted by the State of Oregon. 1.4 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS: A. Conform to all applicable requirements of the UPC for materials and installation of the work under this section. B. Comply with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality s requirements for design and installation of public sanitary sewer systems where applicable. C. Comply with the applicable provisions of the 1974 Clean Water Act, as amended relating to handling of sanitary sewer and storm runoff. 1.5 COORDINATION: A. Coordinate work under the provisions of Section PRODUCTS

2 SECTION BASE ROCK: A. Base rock shall be a minimum of 6 inches in depth and be class B or class E backfill as specified in Section Geotextile fabric, where required, shall be Mirafi 500x, from Celanese Corp., SUPAC SNP from Philips Fibers Corp., or equal. 2.2 CONCRETE: A. Concrete shall be Portland Cement Concrete, ready-mixed, conforming to ASTM C 94, Alternate 2. Concrete shall have a compressive field strength of 3000 psi at 28 days except manhole bases, thrust blocks, and concrete backfill where 2,500 psi is acceptable. Maximum aggregate size shall be 1 1/2 inches. Slump shall be between 2 and 4 inches. Admixtures may be used excepting the total chloride content of the admixtures used may not exceed 0.5 percent by weight, of the weight of the admixture. Air entraining admixtures shall comply with ASTM C260. Water reducing, retarding, and accelerating admixtures shall comply with ASTM C FORMS: A. Exterior exposed surfaces shall be smooth faced plywood. Other surfaces may use matched boards, plywood, or other approved material. 2.4 REINFORCING STEEL: A. Steel reinforcement shall be deformed bars of Grade 40 or Grade 60 steel conforming to ASTM A615, wire conforming to ASTM A 82 or A496, or welded steel wire fabric conforming to ASTM A185 or A PRECAST MANHOLE SECTIONS: A. Precast manhole sections shall be of the size indicated on the drawings, and conform to ASTM C478. Minimum wall thickness shall be 4 inches. Cones shall be eccentric and have the same reinforcement and wall thickness as the manhole sections. Flat top slab manholes may be used in place of eccentric cones where shown on the drawings or where the manhole is less than 5 1/2 feet

3 SECTION in overall depth. Joints shall be rubber gasketed conforming to ASTM C443 or preformed plastic gaskets. All sections shall be capable of meeting the permeability requirements of ASTM C 14. B. At the option of the Contractor, precast base sections or manhole bases may be used. When precast bases are used, shop drawings shall be submitted to the Engineer prior to casting. C. Concrete grade rings for extensions shall be a maximum of 6 inches high and shall be a minimum of 1 inch high. A minimum of 2 inches of extension shall be used on all manholes to permit adjustment of the frame and cover to the surface grade. Extensions will be limited to a maximum total height of 12 inches. Materials shall conform to ASTM C PRECAST CATCH BASINS AND INLETS: A. Precast catch basins shall be of the size indicated on the drawings, and conform to ASTM C478. Catch basins and inlets shall be type I where used in public right -of-ways, unless otherwise specified and Type 3 where used on private property, unless otherwise noted on the drawings. Concrete catch basins and inlets shall be as manufactured by Spec Industries Inc., Bracelin & Yeager Excavating Co., or equal. B. Where required by the UPC, catch basins shall be baffled, as per manufacturer s standard method, to prevent entry of grease and oils into the storm water system. C. Minor catch basins in the D ends, as shown on the drawings, may be 18 nominal, square basins with flat grates. Basins may be constructed of steel, concrete or polyethylene. Basins shall be Draintech 18 Square basin, with ADA Compliant square grates as manufactured by ADS Pipe, Inc, or approved equal. 2.7 PREFORMED RIBBON/CHANNEL DRAINS: A. Preformed ribbon/channel drains shall be modular in construction and constructed such that a 10 or 20-foot length may be installed without special cutting or fabrication. Drains shall be suitable for installation in a high foot traffic area. Outlet shall be a spigot bottom with strainer, 4-inch spigot connection. Channel shall have end caps on each end.

4 SECTION B. Preformed channel drains shall be constructed of corrosion resistant materials. Metal drain sections shall be galvanized cast iron. Plastic drain sections shall be constructed of high impact PVC, with U.V. inhibitors and reinforcing such as titanium. C. Grating and channel shall be 5 inch or 6 inch width, constructed of corrosion resistant materials such as U.V stabilized high impact plastic, cast iron or hot dip galvanized steel. Grating shall come in sections to fit the channel and weigh not more than 45 lbs per section. Grating shall be fastened to the channel with tamper resistant screws or clips. D. Grating and channel shall be as manufactured by Zurn; NDS, Spee-D Channel Drain, ADS Draintech Channel Basin; or approved. 2.8 JOINT MATERIALS: A. Preformed plastic gaskets shall be Kent-Seal No. 2 or equal, meeting all the requirements of Federal Specification B. Rubber gaskets shall conform to ASTM C443. C. Standard premixed mortar conforming to ASTM C 387 or as approved by the Engineer, may be used for joints above the cone section. Mortar mixed for longer than 30 minutes shall not be used. 2.9 METAL CASTINGS: A. Manhole frames and covers and catch basin grates and frames shall be cast iron of the size and shape shown on the drawings. Manhole covers shall have either a 4-inch raised letter S or the word SEWER in 2 inch raised letters. Castings shall be tough, close-grained gray iron, sound, smooth and free from blisters and other defects. Cast iron materials shall conform to ASTM A 4E, Class 30B. Covers and grates shall be true and seat within frame at all points. Manhole covers shall be as manufactured by Valley Iron and Steel Co. pattern #105, Olympic Foundry, Pattern MH265 or pattern MH26P, or equal. Manhole frames shall be suburban style unless otherwise specified. Manhole covers shall be tamper proof where installed within the Dormitory compound by means of tapped

5 SECTION and bolted covers. Bolt shall be manufactured of stainless steel. B. Catch basin grates and frames may be welded steel conforming to ASTM A 7, A 36, or A373 in accordance with the drawings. All catch basin grates shall be "bicycle proof". Catch basin grates shall be tamper proof and installed by means of stainless steel bolts and clips NON-SHRINK GROUT: A. Non-shrink grout shall be Master Builders Embeco, Sika 212, Burke Stone, U.S. Grout Five Star or equal. A bonding agent compatible with the grout used shall be applied to the concrete surfaces prior to grout placement UTILITY VAULTS: 3.0 EXECUTION A. Major Utility Vaults shall be the size and type as shown on the drawings. Utility Vaults shall be as manufactured by Pipe Inc., Utility Vault Co. or approved. B. Hand holes or valve boxes shall be 6 minimum opening, polyethylene hand holes rated for the anticipated traffic EXCAVATION AND BACKFILL: A. Excavation and Backfill shall conform to applicable portions of Section Trenching. Backfill around the manholes shall be the highest class of backfill of the trench and pipe coming into the manhole ROCK BASE: A. Unless otherwise shown or requested by the Engineer, 6 inches of compacted rock base shall be placed below the manhole base. All water shall be removed from the excavation prior to placing base. Catch basins do not require rock base unless specifically shown on the drawings or requested by the Engineer. When shown on the drawings, a geotextile ground stabilization fabric shall be placed before placing the base rock and shall extend a minimum of 1 foot beyond the base.

6 SECTION CONCRETE BASES: A. Construct concrete base as shown on the drawings or as approved in the precast base submittal. Vibrate to densify the concrete and screed so that the first precast manhole section to be placed has a level, uniform bearing for the full circumference of the section. Provide a key way in the top of the base to match the joint of the precast manhole section used. B. The invert shall be constructed to a cross section identical to that of the sewer pipes or transition between two pipe sizes. Inverts shall be sloped to drop 0.10 feet across the manhole unless otherwise specified. Where manholes are laid over existing sewers, the pipe shall be broken out to the spring line of the existing pipe and the pipe shall be used as an invert. A minimum of 3 feet of channel is required between the pipe stubs. Flow will not be allowed in the invert section of the pipe until the concrete has had sufficient set time to keep from eroding cement in the invert PRECAST MANHOLE SECTIONS: A. All lift holes shall be wetted, then completely filled with mortar, and smoothed and pointed both inside and out to ensure water-tightness. B. Preformed plastic or rubber gaskets shall be used on all sanitary manholes. Mortar joints will only be allowed on storm manholes or 24-inch grade rings GRATES, FRAMES AND COVERS: A. Manhole and catch basin frames and covers shall be installed in such a manner as to prevent infiltration of surface or ground water between the frame and the grade rings. All mortared surfaces shall be constructed using an approved bonding agent. Sanitary manholes shall be placed 1/4 inch above the surrounding grade and the surface improvements sloped to the frame. Storm manholes and catch basins shall be placed 1/4 to 1/2 inch below the surrounding grade and the surface improvements shall be sloped to the frame PIPE CONNECTIONS:

7 SECTION A. Special care shall be taken to insure that piping penetrations into manholes are completely watertight. All pipes shall be connected to manholes in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. All rigid non-reinforced pipes entering the manhole shall be provided with flexible joints within 3 feet of the manhole structure. B. PVC and ductile iron pipe used, as sanitary sewer shall be connected to the manhole using an adapter specifically manufactured for the intended service. PVC pipe adapters shall be Fernco CMA, Romac LCT, Tylox Manhole Adapters, Kor-N-Seal, or approved. Adapters shall be grouted in place with non-shrink grout and epoxy or latex bonding compound TESTING OF MANHOLES: A. All sanitary sewer manholes shall be hydrostatically or vacuum tested for leakage when the number of manholes in the project is 5 or less. Twenty (20) percent of the manholes exceeding the first 5 manholes shall be hydrostatically tested for leakage on projects with more than five manholes. The test shall consist of plugging all inlets and outlets and filling the manhole with water to the rim. Leakage in each manhole shall not exceed 0.2 gallon per hour per foot of head above the invert. A manhole may be filled 24 hours prior to testing, if desired, to permit normal absorption into the pipe walls to take place. Repair all manholes, which do not meet the leakage test, or are unsatisfactory from visual inspection, to conform to the requirements herein. 4,0 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT 4.1 Measurement: No separate measurement shall be made for the Work described in this section. 4.2 All work associated with furnishing and installing of drains, manholes and appurtenances associated with the work shall be paid for under the lump sum items for Drainage Improvements as listed in the proposal.
