1 RELEVANT PUBLIC PROJECTS AND REFERENCES TranTech is proud of its accomplishments in structural engineering. Our staff members have provided design servicess to numerous public agencies on very successful projects. Our clients have given us an average performance score of 9.7 out of 10 on our most recent projects, based on WSDOT s evaluation form. These projects show a number of projects which we are working on or have successfully completed in western Washington which are relevant to the Mukilteo Multimodal Pedestrian Bridge. They demonstrate our intimate knowledge and expertise in bridge design and in particular pedestrian bridges. They also show that we have experience in preparing Alternativee Study Reports concerning bridge structures, as well as designing them. On some of these projects, we have worked or are working with members of our proposed team for this project. And in particular, the first project example below shows that we are currently preparing an Alternative Study Report comparable to the one necessary for the City of Mukilteo project. Cedar River Trail Bridge Alternative Study Report King County, Washington Reference: Jenny Bailey, Parametrix, TranTech recently prepared an Alternative Study Report for the proposed Cedar River Trail Pedestrian Bridge which requires crossing over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad (BNSF). The Trail follows an abandoned railroad alignment. This Study encompasses investigations regarding two alternative pedestrian bridge types to replacee the missing bridge across the BNSF rail line near SR 169 and SE 280th Street in Maple Valley. It is envisioned that the Bridge will be a one span structure supported on each end by the existing concrete abutments, to the extent feasible. Per the County s guidance, the Bridge is assumed to be 16 feet wide and designed for one lane of vehicular load. The design vehiclee information (i.e. weight and axle spacing) will be providedd by the County. In case the County decides that maintenance vehicles will not be allowed on the bridge, design Live Loads will be reduced to Pedestrian, Equestrian and Snow only. Lateral loads, including Earthquake Loading, will be considered in both cases. As directed by King County, the new bridge shall be economical and low maintenance. In order to meet the County expectations, consideration is given to the following bridge superstructuree types: 1. Single span Through-steel-truss with long-life protection (Alt 1) and 2. Single span Pre-stressed Precast Concretee Girder (Alt 2). Both alternatives provide a low maintenancee and economical pedestrian overcrossing. By considering various attributes associated with each alternative (i.e., Cost, constructability, maintenance, etc), Single Span Pre-stressed Precast Concrete Girderr Alternative (i.e., Alternative 2) is recommended to be advanced to final design. 2 Mukilteo Transit Station Improvements Mukilteo, Washington Reference: Kevin R. Collins, P.E., HDR Inc., The project involved closing (using landscaping and structures) an open area approximately 147 long x 14 wide x 4 deep in the middle of the operating Mukilteo commuter rail station. This opening is the future location of the pedestrian bridge landing and elevator shafts as well as the station building. The design of the open area is to allow for better pedestrian movement and protection of the utilities and structural elements, while adding aesthetic improvements using low maintenance elements in such a way that any landscaping and the structure itself can be removed at a later date. Green River Pedestrian Bridge Rehabilitation Tukwila, Washington Reference: Bob Giberson, PE, City of Tukwila, TranTech provided rehabilitation PS&E construction documents and Construction Management services for this 170-foot-long and 7-foot-wide pedestrian bridge in the City of Tukwila. Based on an Inspection Report, a 3-D truss model was utilized to assesss the capacity of truss elements and those with deterioration were subjected to cross sectional reduction. Next, a Demand to Capacity analysis of the Bridge s primary elements was performed. The Rehabilitation called for repairs on rot pockets on the primary truss elements including the bottom chord elements, replacing the deck with a non-skid surface and painting. This project was completed successfully in October BNSF RR Overpass Bridge Rehabilitation Lakewood, Washington Reference: Andrea Stott, PE, Transpo Group, TranTech submitted a bridge rehabilitation design PS&E package modifying the BNSF RR Overpass Bridge for the City of Lakewood. Design modifications included provisions for two new 6-foot-wide sidewalks and an attached vehicle and pedestrian bridge railing one on each side of the existing 36-foot-wide bridge superstructure. The PS&E package was completed and submitted on time and within budget to the City in September Page 2

Broadway Avenue Bridge Replacement City of Everett, Washington Reference: Ryan Sass, PE, City of Everett, The Broadway Bridge is 1000 feet long and 100 feet wide and carries 5 lanes of traffic and 2 sidewalks over the BNSF Railroad main line and a Sound Transit rail line. The existing steel frame bridge has a limited functional service life. TranTech first prepared a TS&L Report which provided 3 options for the replacement of the bridge and is currently providing full design services based on the City s alternative of choice. The construction is set for Current railroad clearance standards require raising the roadway grade. A shallow bridge superstructure and a considerable amount of retaining wall modification or replacement will be necessary to accommodate thesee requirements. The Broadway Bridge Replacement project is located in the heart of the City of Everett s Central Business District, therefore aesthetic considerations are an important decision parameter and 2011City of Tacoma Bridge Inspections Tacoma, Washington Reference: Dan Soderlind, PE, City of Tacoma, TranTech provided bridge inspection services to the City of Tacoma in 2010 and The 2010 inspections consisted of performing routine bridge inspections on four bridges: East 34 th St. Bridge 485-foot arch bridge, East 34 th St. Bridge 550-foot arch bridge, North Proctor St. Bridge 397- foot arch bridge, and Lincolnn Avenue Bridge 470-foot steel truss bridge. The work also included performing a fracture critical inspection on the Lincoln Ave. Bridge. The 2011 inspections encompassed 10 significant bridges which included Eels Street bridges overcrossing BNSF, UPRR and Puyallup River and the 11 th St. Truss Viaduct. All inspections were performed per Washington State Bridge Inspection Manual. All inspection observations were recorded within the latest version of Bridge Works as published by the Highways & Local Programs Division. TranTech coordinated with the City of Seattle for the City s UBIT utilization on this project. City of Tacoma traffic control assistance during the course of the inspections. Page 3

4 South Albro Place Bridge Seattle, Washington Reference: Kit Loo, PE, SDOT, The Albro Place bridge spans over Airport Way South and 12 BNSF and UPRRR railway tracks. The Bridge length is approximately 5655 feet and its out-to-out width measures at 55 feet. The Bridge consists of 11 spans (24.33 ; ; ; ; ; ; 60 ; 50 ; 50 ). The services rendered for SDOT were review of the PS&E contract documents at 30%, 60% %, 90% and 100% regarding the S. Albro Bridge seismic retrofit design performed by another consultant. S. Albro Bridge overcrosses 12 railways including BNSF and UPRR. Jose Rizal Bridge Seattle, Washington Reference: Ken Lee, PE, SDOT, The services rendered were to perform load rating and cost estimation services for two rehabilitation options regarding the sidewalks of the Jose Rizal Bridge as part of an Alternative Study report. Next, TranTech provided rehabilitation PS&E contract documents using the City s standard bid items, engineering support services during construction and construction inspection servicess for overlay installment. Reference: Ken Lee, PE Central Avenue Improvements Bellingham, Washington Reference: Sam Shipp, PE; City of Bellingham, TranTech is the designer for this roadway improvement project that includes a 400-foot elevated wharf structural rehabilitation, replacement and realignment of a 16-inch water main, roadway and intersection improvements, and the installation of a new signal system at the intersection. Interesting features are: precast concrete beam strengthening using Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP), traffic signal design for the intersection of Central/Roeder Avenues that involves an at- of the 16- inch water main supported by the timber wharf and grade BNSF crossing with gates, and realignment superstructure retrofits to enhance seismic performance of the wharf. The project was recently constructed with TranTech staff providing construction inspection. Page 4

5 Pacific Avenue Overcrossing - Sound Transit * Everett, Washington Reference: Vicki Youngs, Sound Transit, TranTech stafff Kash Nikzad and Jim King served as Senior Structural Engineers on this project. The Pacific Avenue Overcrossing is a 750-foot long, eight-span bridge combined with a two-span, 207-foot ramp to form an elevated intersection and railroad grade separation. The structures are constructed from 58 pre-cast, pre-stressed, and post- concretee deck. tensioned concrete Tub-girders with a composite cast-in-place The bridge connects the City Center and Interstate Highway 5 (I- links the western terminus of the mainline and the principle West Coast North-South route. These tracks carry as many as 30 trains daily, causing traffic delays up to 20 minutes. Pacific Avenue 5). The track carries 25,000 cars per day, and the traffic backups were impacting the growth and redevelopment of the region.
