SYSTEM INTRODUCTION This brick cladding system comprises of factory made panels which consist of brick cladding slips cast in rigid polyurethane board. The system provides very effective external insulation as well as robust and attractive brick facade to both renovation projects and new-build construction. System elements are individually designed according to project requirements, such as building dimensions, desired insulation thickness, brick slip size as well as their colour and characteristics. Various elements allow seamless transition from straight walls into window reveals and other shapes saving both time and money. Range of applications is vast and includes: masonry wall construction, both solid and cavity wall, timber frame and steel frame construction. The system has been in use for nearly 20 years and many large domestic and commercial projects have been completed, such as blocks of flats, schools, apartment buildings or football stadiums. The Iso-Klink-Pur System may be used on vertical and horizontal surfaces, on new build and renovation projects, up to 18 metres high as per fire classification in the country where the system is installed. This state of the art, modern product is especially recommended to architects and designers as the Iso-Klink-Pur means savings on construction materials, excellent insulation properties as well as durability and aesthetics of the building. ANY OTHER CUSTOM-MADE CORNER ELEMENTS AS WELL AS ARCHES OF ALL KINDS CAN BE PROVIDED TO SUIT CUSTOMER'S NEEDS AND REQUIREMENTS OF PARTICULAR DESIGN. Parameters of components: - Brick slips dimensions: WDF 215 x 65 mm, DF 240x52 mm, NF 240 x 71 mm, LDF 290 x 52 mm water absorption: 3-5 % frost resistance: full - Polyurethane foam without freon with raising agent HCFC 141b. thermal conductivity: 0,025 W/mk vapour permeability: 68,54 density: kg/m3 - Intermediate layer (Quartz aggregate - polyconcrete) - Stabilising paper D. Fire resistance rating: the system is non fire-spreading (self-extinguishing foam) 9
TECHNICAL DATA MASONRY BLOCK OR BRICK WALL FIXING DETAILS Solid and cavity wall structures: those can be built with dense concrete blocks, aerated blocks or bricks. Installation of the Iso-Klink-Pur panels is perfectly designed for such structures. TIMBER OR STEEL FRAMED WALL FIXING DETAILS Timber frame structures: the system can also be used on buildings, or sections of their facades, which have a timber frame structure. The Iso-Klink-Pur panels are fixed with specially designed wood screws. It is recommended to use washers as they enable to hold the panel tighter as well as protect the head of screw. If ventilation is required, panels should be fixed directly to a cement board, which should be screwed to timber battens, on top of the timber frame structure. Steel frame structures: the system can be used on steel frame structures too, and cover the whole facade or its part. The base can be made of plywood or cement boards. Otherwise the installation is the same as in the case of timber frame structures. Iso-Klink-Pur panels are fixed using specially designed screws for this type of structure. 10
TECHNICAL DATA EXTERNALLY INSULATED WALL & INSULATED CONCRETE FORMWORK (ICF) FIXING DETAILS Externally insulated walls and insulated concrete formowrk: specially designed screws must be used which have to go through the insulant and penetrate into the wall or concrete. Minimum penetration is 60 mm. For example: 45 mm brick panel installed on top of 150 mm external insulation, would ideally be fixed using 260 mm long screw. Very high insulation levels can be achieved in this way, which makes it ideal solution for passive housing. HANDLING AND STORAGE In order not to damage the panels observe the following guidelines: - Store the panels on level surface. The panel on the top should be facing down. - Leave the label on the pallet visible. This way you will easily find out what its content is. - Never lay a pallet on top of another. - Do not unwrap pallets if it is not necessary. Protect uninstalled panels from sun and rain. - Panels should be stored in a dry place or under a tarpaulin. - Protect elements of the system from frost or moisture (polyurethane foams, adhesive) - Store panels in temperature above 15C. - Spray cans and foams should be protected from heat and strong sun. 11
TYPICAL SYSTEM ELEMENTS Panel thickness in DF, RF, NF formats: 45 mm, 65 mm, 80 mm and 85 mm Panel height in DF, RF, WDF formats: 690 mm Panel height in NF format: 680 mm Panel length in RF, DF and NF formats: 1394 mm Panel length in WDF format: 1360 mm WALL PANEL Wall panel dimensions depend on the brick slip size. For this reason brick slip sizes cannot be mixed. Size of corner panels is strictly related to the size of wall panel. For example, if 65 mm thick brick panels are ordered, clad with RF format brick tile, the corner panels will be manufactured exactly of the same thickness and brick tile format. CORNER PANELS Standard dimensions: 240 mm x 240 mm, 360 x 240 mm, 360 x 360 mm Typical corner panels, as depicted below, are used for finishing corners of the building as well as large posts, pillars and reveals. We can also supply custom made corner panels as per particular design requirements for additional cost. 12
TYPICAL SYSTEM ELEMENTS WINDOW JAMBS Standard dimensions: 60 x 240 mm, 120 x 240 mm, 240 x 240 mm Typical window jambs, as depicted left and right, are used for finishing window and door reveals as well as elevation ends. We can also supply custom made window jambs as per particular design requirements for additional cost. PILLAR PANELS Standard dimensions: 240 x 240 x 240 mm, 240 x 360 x 240 mm, 360 x 360 x 360 mm Pillar panels are aimed at finishing large pillars and are aimed at speeding up the construction process. Pillars are custom made panels as per particular design requirements for additional cost. 13
TYPICAL SYSTEM ELEMENTS WINDOW HEADS Standard dimensions: 60 x 240 mm, 120 x 240 mm, 240 x 240 mm, 240 x 360 mm Typical corner panels, as depicted left and right, are used for finishing window and door heads as well as cornices. We can also supply custom made corner panels as per particular design requirements for additional cost. ADDITIONAL ELEMENTS Custom made shapes and brick arrangements can be supplied to meet special design requirements. Each case should be discussed with us as to possibility of manufacture and cost. 14
FIXING GUIDELINES This manual is based on our experience of installation of the system as well as its qualities and technical parameters. 1. TEMPERATURE Fixing the panels with the use of screws and anchors can be done in any temperature. As for other materials such as polyurethane foam, adhesive and grout, those should be used in temperatures between +5C and +35C. While there are polyurethane foams which can be used in temperatures below -10C, our experience suggests that the minimum temperature which allows installation is -5C. 2. SUBSTRATE Ensure that the surface onto which the panels are installed is even and good quality (brick, concrete, clay brick, plywood or wood). Irregularities below 10mm within radius of 1,2m can be disregarded. Irregularities between 10 and 40mm deep/high should be levelled out. This can be done by either cutting any bumps off or filling any depressions with render, adhesive, polyurethane or EPS board. Another layer of insulation is a perfect way of levelling any surface. Small bumps should be grinded down and any depressions filled in. 3. REVEALS, ARCHES AND OTHER ELEMENTS In renovation projects should the reveals be insulated, adequate layer of plaster should be removed beforehand. If insulation of reveals is not required, simply cut poluyrethane foam off the corner panels. Also other ready-made elements made of polyurethane, EPS or other materials may be used. The Iso- Klink-Pur can be used together with other insulation systems as well. Self expanding seal can be put between the panel and the window or door frame. 4. WINDOW SILLS Aluminium sills should be installed observing the following guidelines. Having installed the Iso-Klink-Pur panels, quoin and reveal panels, leave incisions on both sides of the window to insert window sills. The space for window sill is usually cut out ca. 10mm below the bottom line of the window. This ensures perfect drop for window sills of average width. After the sills have been installed, match and stick klinker tiles in on both sides of the sill. Gaps left, ca. 5mm wide, are filled in with flexible material such as Sikaflex. The colour of the seal should match that of grout. According to good building practice in renovation projects window sills are always replaced. Once the system has been installed, adjust all the external fittings such as gutters and blinds. 5. STARTER PROFILE The Iso-Klink-Pur System does not require using a starter profile. However it can be used as a drip, it can separate the panels from the the substrate or simply provide a horizontal line which makes the installation easier. 15
FIXING GUIDEINES Before installation commences take precise measurements of the walls and especially make sure that the wall is perfectly vertical and flat. This is best done with a plummet test every 3 metres. 1. Level the substrate and/or add more insulation. When EPS board is used as insulation or means of levelling the substrate, no use of adhesive is necessary - EPS can simply be put between the paneland the substrate. Any set-offs on the facade must be eliminated. This can be done with the use of an additional or thicker layer(s) of EPS board, and if there is more than one layer added, fix it or use adhesive. Should you use adhesive, dot and dab is sufficient (ca. 3-5 per m2). However at the levels of ceiling and around doors and windows adhesive should be applied in a continuous line - this is important for fire-prevention purposes. 2. Take measurements of the walls and make an initial plan of the panels' arrangement bearing in mind the pattern of brick slips. 3. Mark the first layer of the panels with a string ensuring a horizontal line. 4. Installation usually starts at the corners. Corner panel should be fixed with 2x3 anchors. 5. Apply polyurethane adhesive onto the side of the corner element where the next panel is to be installed. 6. Press the panel to the corner. Drill holes for the anchors with an 8mm SDS drill within the space for grout. Fix the anchors into the wall or other base such as cement board. Nine anchors per panel are used. Insert them into the designated holes in the panel. The anchors' length depends on the thickness of insulation. 7. The system is laid panel after panel, row after row. There should be no gaps between the panels. Sides of the panels should be stuck together with a polyurethane adhesive. 8. Cutting the panels: The panels can be cut with an angle grinder with a disc for cutting stone. Usually 230mm discs are the most convenient for this purpose. To retain the pattern of the bricks remove the halves of tiles from the panel. A small 125mm stone cutting disc as well as a sharp knife or a chisel is recommended for that. Having incised into the layer of polyconcrete, lever and cut the tile out of the panel. 9. Installation of quins and window corner panels is carried out in the same way as installation of corner panels. 10. Next it is time to stick the brick tiles in. Surface of the panels should be cleaned with a wire brush beforehand. Apply adhesive and stick the missing tile in. To ensure that the tile does not slide down, small nails can be hammered into the panel. Use only adhesives approved by the producer of the Iso-Klink-Pur system. 11. Grouting. Mineral grouts which can be found on the market can be used. Follow the grout manufacturer's instructions. 16
INSTALLATION STEP-BY-STEP in pictures 1 2 The wall should be levelled out or another layer of insulation should be fixed. Take dimensions of the wall and plan where panels will be cut to ensure that the pattern of brick tiles is followed. 3 4 Find horizontal line of the first layer of panels. Corner panels are usually installed first. 5 6 Corner panel is fixed with 2x3 anchors. Apply polyurethane adhesive to the side of the installed panel and put the next element into place. 17
7 8 Push the panel to the corner panel. Drill holes in designated points. Use 8mm drill Nine anchors are used to fix the standard panel. Length of anchors depends on whether additional insulation is used and on the thickness of the wall. The system is installed panel after panel, row after row. Ensure there are no gaps between the panels Use angle grinder with diamond disc to cut the panels. Quoins, and window corner elements are installed in the same way as corner panels. 13 Sticking tiles in. 14 Grouting is done at the end, having finished all the other works and having cleaned the facade. Grout only when the surface is dry. 18
