Overhead Sensor (DCC22-12) Traffic Counter Unit PART I: Installation of the Sensors Step 1: Hooking up the STC Connect the 15 pin cable of the junction box to the Junction Box port on the STC. See 1.1 and 1.2 in Reference section. Connect the STC to : a) A computer or POS using the provided serial cable. Connect it to the console port on the STC. See 1.2 in Reference section b) A network, using a Ethernet cable from the STC s Ethernet port to a hub/switch/router. Verify that the LAN light is ON. See 1.2 in Reference section c) A modem (v1.07 only) using the provided 9 to 25 pin cable provided. Connect the 9 pin side to the console port of the STC. See 1.2 in Reference section Connect the power adapter from the STC s power to an outlet in the wall. Step 2: In-wall wiring Junction box to Overhead Specification: 2 pair, 4 conductors, shielded, 22AWG with bare ground. See 1.3 in Reference section Color Standard for the cables used between the STC and the overhead: o White: Signal from the 1 st sensor. o Green: Signal from the 2 nd sensor (if needed).

o Red: VCC (power) o Black: GND (0 Volt, ground) The Bare wire will need to be connected at GND in the Junction box, along with the black cable. Do not connect it with the GND cable at the sensor. This is done to prevent interference. Step 3: Understanding the overhead (sensor) The overhead is installed on the ceiling at the entrance of the store. The overhead reacts to heat. For this reason you must keep it away from heat traps or other strong heat source. At least 3 feet, that is the very minimum. The overhead comes configured out of the box to scan an area only about one inch thick. The width of the scanning range needs to be adjusted using the louver on the overhead. For example the maximum range of the beam for an overhead installed at 8 feet high is 12 feet wide. The light on the overhead should change from red to green or green to red, when somebody passes underneath. The light should go back to its initial color after 1 second. Step 4: Installing the Overhead Install the overhead to the ceiling above the entrance or where it is indicated on your worksheet. Here is the connection schematic for the Overhead:

Description 1) The overhead comes installed with a tape to reduce the thickness of the beam. This is to avoid counting people which are just passing by the store. The thickness of the beam with the tape is about 1 inch. 2) The jumper determines if the overhead is in normally close or normally open. Our installations are always at normally close so the jumper is required. 3) Connect the white cable (or green if this is the 2 nd sensor). This carries the signal (the counts) to the junction box. Connect it to connector #1 (or 2 for a 2 nd sensor) on the junction box. 4) This carries the power from the junction box to the sensor. Connect the red cable of your wiring there. Connect it to VCC on the junction box. 5) This is the ground. It must be connected using the black cable of your wiring to the Junction Box GND connector. 6) Verify that the jumper on the overhead is as shown on the schematic. This determines the response time of the sensor, which is set to 1 second in that configuration. Step 5: Verification Main relay timer settings time jumper (seconds) A B C D 1/ ) Adjust the left and right louver. You need to adjust them so that people entering at any position of the entrance are counted. On the sensor, you should have one light lit-on, either green or red.

When somebody passes it should switch to red or green, depending on the initial color. Enter the store at the extreme left and extreme right of the entrance. Make sure it is counting every time. On the STC, press the arrow down once to go to Hourly, and then press enter twice. You should see a screen similar to this: <Hourly Traffic> 01 : 0 Walk pass the sensors 4 times. This should create 2 counts on the STC, since the STC usually has a 50% factor. Press ESC on the STC, and go back to Hourly, the counts should have raised by 2. Verify that the time and date on the STC is accurate. If not refer to the STC Configuration section. If all of this works fine, communicate with the person in charge of the installation (Head Office of the store, Installation company or SMS), to validate the functionality. If you have any problem, refer to the troubleshooting section.

Troubleshooting Guide Problem Solution No lights on the sensor To isolate this problem, take the sensor from the ceiling and connect it directly to the junction box. Verify that the light is on, and, by holding it pointing down with one hand, pass the other underneath and make sure it is reacting (light switching color and creating counts on the STC). Check that the junction box is correctly connected to the STC. No counts on the STC but the sensor is working fine (lights react correctly). The problem is with the wiring for the signal from the receiver to the junction box. Verify the configuration of the door. Go to the Relay & label part of the STC configuration section. If you cannot find a problem with the wiring : Take the sensor from the ceiling and connect it directly to the junction box. Verify that the light is on, and, by holding it pointing down with one hand, pass the other underneath and make sure it is reacting (light switching color and creating counts on the STC). Count seems too high. Make sure your cabling is OK, make sure there is no short on the cable that carries the signal from the sensor Make sure there is not a lot of traffic coming in while you go check the counts Verify the factor. See the STC Configuration section. To isolate this problem, take the sensor from the ceiling and connect it directly to the junction box. Verify that the light is on, and, by holding it pointing down with one hand, pass the other underneath and make sure it is reacting (light switching color and creating counts on the STC). Count seems too low Verify that the factor is at 50%. See the STC Configuration section. Remember that you must pass twice between the sensor to get 1 count. Each pass is a 0.5. Make sure the light is reacting every time someone passes in the sensor s area. Check your connection at the junction box. Make sure the cables are securely connected. Check your wiring for any short on the signal. To isolate this problem, take the sensor from the ceiling and connect it directly to the junction box. Verify that the light is on, and, by holding it pointing down with one hand, pass the other underneath and make sure it is reacting (light switching color and creating counts on the STC).fine the problem is with

the wiring. Overhead s light is switching color when somebody passes but takes a long time before going back to it s initial color. There is nothing on the STC s screen. No power on STC. The LAN light on the STC is not on. (Network installation only) Refer to step 5 and make sure the relays are configured as shown. They adjust the refresh time. Make sure the power connector of the STC is correctly connected. Try another power outlet Verify that the Ethernet cable is correctly connected at both ends Verify that the STC has power going to it. Verify that the hub/switch/router where the STC is connected has power. Try another Ethernet cable.

STC Configuration* *This section is not required if your installation is working well. Refer to this only if the problem points to a bad configuration of the STC. To access any configuration option on the STC you need to follow these steps o From the default screen, press the down arrow until you find Setup. o Press Enter. o The STC is going ask you for a password. The password is Set Time o Press Enter You are now in the configuration menu, please refer to the next section to learn how to access specific items. If you want to change the factor on all the doors select ALL. Using the up/down arrow, select the factor you want. 50% is the normal setting. Press enter The factor will be set at the value you entered. Set Relay & Label From the setup menu, press the up arrow until you find Relay/Label and then follow these steps: Press enter. On the screen the cursor should be underneath 01. This represents the # of the door. Using the up and down arrows select the door you want to change. Press enter. The cursor will go to the 2 nd row.
