Types of work in this section include work for: 1. Interior windows in Corridor Miscellaneous doors. 3. Interior doors and frames. 4. Mirrors. C. Scope: Refer to drawings for locations of glazing types, and to related sections aluminum storefront or curtain wall REFERENCES 1. Type A: ¼ Clear Vision Glass, tempered, as required by all applicable codes, and shall meet all requirements for AT/FP guidelines. 2. U-value: Btu per hour per square foot per degree F difference

2 1.04 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A. Exterior Glazing: Provide glazing assemblies which will withstand specified conditions without failure, loss of weathertightness, or deterioration. 1. Design to accommodate thermal movement resulting from: a. Air temperature range of 120 degrees F. b. Material temperature range of 180 degrees F. 2. Design to withstand per applicable building code a. Statistical probability of breakage: 8 per 1000, maximum, at 60-wind load. b. Failure includes loss or breakage of glass, due to wind load, exceeding that reasonably expected under the performance requirements specified. B. Deterioration includes: 1.05 SUBMITTALS 1. For insulating glass: a. Moisture or dirt between panes. b. Development of condensation between panes. c. Damage to internal coating, if any. d. Development of other visible indication of seal failure. A. Product Data: Furnish five (5) copies of manufacturer s data, describing product characteristics, installation instructions and recommendations, and maintenance procedures and samples of each types pf glass, indicate coordination of all glass and glazing with aluminum curtain wall/storefront and framing systems to receive glazing. B. Certification by contractor, installer, glass fabricator, or manufacturer that glass thickness and heat treatment have been selected to provide the strength required to meet specified structural performance requirements. C. Insulating Unit Warranty. D. Weathertight Warranty QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Preinstallation meeting: Have all installers whose work is related to glazing work meet to review installation procedures, sequencing, coordination, and methods of protection of completed work. 1. Have on hand, and keep at the site for the duration of glazing operations, a copy of the following: a. Each referenced document which applies to installation. b. Installation instructions of each manufacturer of products. B. Installer shall be an experienced glazier with experience using the materials indicated. C. Comply with Glazing Manual by Flat Glass Marketing Association. D. Comply with Technical Services Report No. Industries. 104B by PPG. E. Job Conditions: glazier shall inspect framing and glazing surfaces and notify contractor of any conditions detrimental to the operation. 1. Do not proceed until contractor has corrected all deficiencies. 2. Do not proceed with liquid glazing until weather conditions meet manufacturer s recommendations

3 3. Verify all dimensions on job DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Protect products in accordance with manufacturer s recommendations; specifically, avoid damage to glass edges; prevent damage due to temperature changes, sunlight, and moisture. B. Do not deliver glass or glazing sheets to project until openings are ready for glazing. C. Handle glass and glazing sheets carefully and protect at all times WARRANTY A. Submit a written warranty guaranteeing to correct failures in glazing which occur within the period indicated after substantial completion, without reducing or otherwise limiting any other rights to correction which the owner may have under the contract documents. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 MANUFACTURERS A. Glass Manufacturers General: B. Manufacturers: 2.02 GLASS, GENERAL 1. Warranty on insulating glass: 10 years from date of completion. 2. Weathertight warranty: Signed by installer, for 15 years after date of completion. Failure is defined as water leakage through glazing assembly. Correction may include repair or replacement. 1. Obtain materials from only one manufacturer or fabricator for each type; obtain tinted primary glass (if any) used for each type from only one manufacturer. 2. Where product names are indicated, comparable products of the manufacturers listed will be considered for substitution. 1. Heat-treated glass: Products of the following manufacturers, provided they comply with requirements of the contract documents, will be among those considered acceptable: a. AFG Industries, Inc. b. Guardian Industries Corporation. c. HGP Industries, Inc. d. PPG Industries, Inc. A. Glass General: Provide glass types fabricated of the glass products indicated Glazing Systems: 1. Select products to comply with performance manufacturer s recommendations. 2. Exterior glass thickness: 6 mm (1/4 inch nominal), minimum. 3. Interior glass thickness: 6 mm (1/4 inch nominal), unless otherwise indicated. 4. Heat treatment for exterior glass: As recommended by glass manufacturer to provide strength necessary to resist specified loads. 5. Fabricate glass with bite and edge clearance dimensions, including tolerances, as recommended by manufacturer and FGMA Glazing Manual. 6. Where safety and/or laminated glazing is required by governing authorities or criteria, provide certified safety glazing

4 A. Investigate and approve compatibility of glazing materials, glass and framing prior to beginning. B. One component elastomeric glazing sealants. 1. One part acid-type silicone rubber elastomeric sealant. 2. FS TT , Class A, non sag. 3. G.E. silicone 1200 r approved equal Glass Type A: VISION GLASS FOR ALUMINUM CURTAINWALL. A. Nominal thickness: manufacturers overall. B. Double Glazed: ¼ clear glass tempered where required by code Glass Type B: ¼ polished plate mirror with safety backing CFR A. Aluminum J-Mold 5/8 face to show. B. Use steel fasteners, which withstand moisture, to securely mount to masonry wall Glass Type C: Obscure Translucent Glass. A. Product: 1 insulated with : 2.07 Glass Type D: Reflective Vision Glass. A. Product: 1. Double Glazed: ¼ clear/obscure glass with obscure texture on #3 surface. 1. Double Glazed: ¼ reflective surface on #3 surface Glass Type E: Spandrel Concealed above ceiling: A. Outboard lite: ¼ clear glass with solar grey ceramic frit coating on #2 surface. B. ½ Hermetically sealed air space. C. Inboard lite: Two nominal 3-mm (1/8 in.) clear glass panes bonded together with a minimum of a.75mm (.030 inch) polyvinyl-butyl (PVB) interlayer D. All glass to be heat strengthened. E. Provide this type of spandrel glass at all spandrel glass not visible on interior spaces. F. Glass Type F: Exposed to Interior: G. Outboard lite: ¼ clear glass with solar grey ceramic frit coating on #2 surface. H. ½ Hermetically sealed air space. I. Inboard lite: Two nominal 3-mm (1/8 in.) clear glass with solar grey ceramic frit coating on #4 surface with a minimum of a.75mm (.030 inch) polyvinyl-butyl (PVB) interlayer. J. All glass to be heat strengthened

5 K. Provide this type of spandrel glass at all spandrel glass visible on interior spaces Glass Type G: Vision Glass for Existing Hopper Windows (Additive Bid Alternate #0) A. Nominal thickness: manufacturers overall. B. Single Glazed: ¼ clear glass tempered where required by code INSTALLATION MATERIALS A. Installation Materials General: Select products which have appropriate performance characteristics as recommended by glass and glazing materials manufacturers and which are compatible with all materials with which they will come into contact. B. Glazing Blocks: Neoprene, EPDM, or silicone. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 EXAMINATION 1. Setting Blocks: 80 to 90 Shore A hardness. A. Examine frames and rabbets in which glazing is to be installed for conditions that could be detrimental to the longevity of the glazing. In particular, check for conditions that would void the manufacturer s warranty. B. Do not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected PREPARATION A. Clean surfaces to receive glazing just before installation of glazing INSTALLATION - GENERAL A. Comply with recommendations for installation contained in the FGMA Glazing Manual and Sealant Manual except when specifically not recommended or prohibited by the glass or glazing material manufacturer; comply with manufacturer s recommendations. B. Protect glazing from edge damage during handling and installation. C. Do not install glass that has edge damage or defects that reduce glass strength or performance or diminish appearance. D. Install glass so that visual characteristics, such as pattern, bow, and roll wave distortion, are uniform. E. Install each piece of glass watertight or airtight. F. Each piece of glass shall withstand normal temperature changes, wind loading and impact loading. Window and/or glass manufacturer shall calculate and certify to glazing to meet specified impact protection. G. Protect glass edges at all times. H. Comply with manufacturer s recommendations. I. Inspect each piece of glass prior to installation and do not install glass with damaged edges

6 J. Do not cut, seam, nip or abrade glass which is coated or tinted. K. Install setting blocks of proper size at quarter points of sill rabbet. L. Provide spacers of proper size and spacing. M. Heel-in with 2 component polysulfide sealant. N. Install filler rods at jambs and heads. O. Seal with silicone sealant inside and outside. P. Force sealant into channels to eliminate air pockets and voids. Q. Tool exposed surfaces of glazing sealants to provide a substantial wash away from glass. R. Do not allow glazing materials on other surfaces GLAZING IN FRAMES A. Permanently adhere setting and edge blocks to frame. B. Do not block weep holes. 1. Use primer where required for proper adhesion. C. Compression Gaskets: Secure gaskets so they will not work out under normal movement MIRROR INSTALLATION 1. Install so they fit tightly at corners, allowing for stretch during installation. 2. Do not use joints in gaskets, except at corners. 3. Miter-cut corners and seal joint with sealant. 4. Install gaskets so they protrude slightly past face of framing. A. Install mirrors in accordance with the recommendations of the mirror manufacturer and with FGMA Glazing Manual PROTECTION AND CLEANING 1. Do not install mirrors having any damage to backing coating. 2. Do not install until all other work in the area is complete. 3. Do not install until permanent HVAC systems are in operation. 4. Do not install in areas where airborne solvents or heavy duty cleaners are being used; ventilate areas thoroughly after use before installing mirrors. 5. Do not install over recently installed plaster, masonry, concrete, or paint. 6. Install with at least 3/16-inch space between back surface of mirror and substrate. 7. Mount plumb; provide shims or spacers if required. 8. Mount adjacent pieces in the same plane. A. Do not apply tape or labels to glazing; remove temporary labels. B. Do not allow mirrors to be continuously exposed to moisture or high humidity for long periods of time. C. Protect glazing during subsequent construction operations; remove dirt, contaminants, staining agents and other deposits promptly using manufacturer s recommended procedures

7 D. Replace glazing that is damaged. E. Wash both sides of glazing, using manufacturer s recommended procedures not more than 10 days before inspection for substantial completion WARRANTY A. General Warranty: Special warranties specified in this Article shall not deprive Owner of other rights Owner may have under other provisions of the Contract Documents and shall be in addition to, and run concurrent with, other warranties made by Contractor under requirements of the Contract Documents. B. Manufacturer s Special Warranty on Laminated Glass and Laminated Spandrel Glass: Written warranty, made out to Owner and signed by laminated-glass manufacturer agreeing to furnish replacements for laminated-glass units that deteriorate as defined in Definitions Article, f.o.b. the nearest shipping point to project site within specified warranty period indicated below. C. Warranty Period: Ten years from date of Substantial Completion. D. Manufacturer s Special Warranty on insulation Glass: Written warranty, made out to Owner and signed by insulating-glass manufacturer agreeing to furnish replacement for insulating-glass-units that deteriorate as defined in Definitions Article, f.o.b. the nearest shipping point to Project site, within specified warranty period indicated below. 1. Warranty Period: 10 years from date of Substantial Completion. END OF SECTION
