1 Application instruction Vescom acoustic wall system November 2013 A special instruction is required for the application of the acoustic wall system. The following steps must be followed: 1. Preparing a drop plan 2. Making the profiles to size (middle, end and cover profiles) 3. Installation of the middle and end profiles on the wall 4. Making laminated foam boards to size 5. Glue the wall 6. Installing the foam boards 7. Finishing seams and positioning cover profiles 8. Miscellaneous Important to know in advance: The sound-absorbing, fire-retarding foam boards (with a thickness of 25 mm) have dimensions of 300 cm in height x 120 cm in width. The foam boards must be glued on to the wall using Vescom The system has 3 different aluminium profiles: 1. middle profile with a rubber core 2. end profile with a rubber core 3. cover profile, anodised aluminium cap 10 mm 20 mm middle profile end profile and cover profile Vescom's acoustic wall system fills the wall and should, by preference, be applied symmetrically.

2 1. Preparing a drop plan Start by making a drop plan. The width of the profiles must be considered with regard to this. Example: You could install five (1.2 metre) foam boards/panels in the case of a wall that is 6 metres wide. The width of the profiles of the wall width must be subtracted, however, to be able to determine the exact width of the foam boards. In the case of 5 foam boards, 4 middle profiles and 2 end profiles are involved. 6 metres -/- (4 x 20 mm with regard to the middle profile) -/- (2 x 10 mm with regard to the end profile) = 5.90 metres Vescom recommends symmetrical application: start in the centre of the wall and position equal connecting pieces left and right. 3 full 120 cm boards can be installed on a wall that is 5.90 metres wide /- (3 x 120 cm) = 2.30 metres. The connecting pieces to the left and right will then both be 2.30: 2 = 1.15 metres wide. The distribution of the acoustic wall system on the 6 metre wall will then be as follows: 115 cm 120 cm 120 cm 120 cm 115 cm 2. Making profiles to size The second step concerns making the three different profiles (middle, end and cover profiles) to size. The sequence of making to size is as follows: 1. Making the end profile to size for the top and bottom sides. 2. Making the end profile to size for the left and right sides. 3. Making middle profiles to size 4. Making the cover profile to size > determine how it will be applied in the job: mitred or straight?

3 Example: The profiles will have the following dimensions in the case of a wall that is 6 metres wide and 3 metres high. 1. End profile top and bottom sides: 6 metres -/- 5 mm 2. End profile left and right sides: 3 metres -/- 45 mm 3. Middle profile: 3 metres -/- 45 mm 3. Installation of the middle and end profiles on the wall Once the profiles have been made to size they can be installed on the wall. The fastening method for this will depend on the substrate: gluing, nailing, screwing or a combination of the above. 1. First, position the end profile at the top and bottom sides. 2. Next, position the end profile on the left and right sides. 3. Draw a pencil line in the centre of the wall. installing the end profile drawing a pencil line

6 4. Making laminated foam boards to size After the middle and end profiles have been installed on the wall, the laminated foam boards must be made to size. Example: The boards must be shortened at a minimum of cm in the case of a wall that is 300 cm high. 300 cm -/- 25 mm (the width of the profile, at the bottom and top, + 5 mm clearance). product label outlining the foam boards making the boards to size 5. Glue the wall The foam boards must be glued on to the wall using Vescom Use a long-haired roller for this. Consumption: approximately 1 kg/m 2.

7 6. Installing the foam boards When installing the foam boards, position the bottom end profile on the board and press it between the 2 middle profiles starting at the bottom and moving upwards. Use your hands and do not use the spatula. installing the foam boards Note: do not push the flap directly into the profile after installing the foam board. Allow it to dry for at least half an hour to ensure the foam adheres correctly to the wall and it does not detach when rolling in the flap. The foam boards must be glued and installed per drop. Do not pre-glue and/or process in advance the drops. 7. Finishing seams and positioning cover profiles When all foam boards have been installed, the overhanging fabric flaps can be rolled in the middle profile by using an inner corner pressure roller. This must be done for each flap separately.

8 Once the seams have been finished, the cover profiles can be installed. They must first be made to size after measuring the wall. The sequence of making to size is as follows: 1. Making the cover profile to size for the top and bottom sides 2. Making the end profile to size for the left and right sides The cover profiles must be pressed into the end profile by using a rubber mallet.

9 8. Miscellaneous To conclude, we provide recommendations on how to deal with various issues and situations. 1. Inward and outward corners The drawings below show how the wall system is applied in an inward (internal) and outward (external) corner. External corners will not or barely occur. inward corner outward corner 2. Door/window frame The end profiles must be installed around a door/window frame. Vertical end profiles must be kept in line with the top side of the window/door frame. Position horizontal end profiles on the vertical frame profiles. 3. Switches Junction boxes can be built up by 25 mm with filler edges to be flush with the foam board.

10 4. Profile colour The cover and end profiles can be sprayed in RAL colours upon request. 5. Skirting board Standard cover profile or the option is available of installing a skirting board on the cover profile later. 6. Picture hanging system A picture rail can be installed on the end profile at the top so that paintings and similar can be hung.
