1 SECTION PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. This Section includes ceiling- and wall-mounted diffusers, registers, grilles and louvers. B. Related Sections include the following: 1. Division 23 Section "Air Duct Accessories" for volume-control dampers not integral to diffusers, registers, and grilles. 2. Division 23 Section "Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing for HVAC" for balancing diffusers, registers, and grilles. 1.3 SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: For each model indicated, include the following: 1. Data Sheet: For each type of air outlet and inlet, and accessory furnished; indicate construction, finish, and mounting details. 2. Performance Data: Include throw and drop, static-pressure drop, and noise ratings for each type of air outlet and inlet. 3. Schedule of diffusers, registers, and grilles indicating drawing designation, room location, quantity, model number, size, and accessories furnished. 4. Assembly Drawing: For each type of air outlet and inlet; indicate materials and methods of assembly of components. B. Coordination Drawings: Reflected ceiling plans and wall elevations drawn to scale to show locations and coordination of diffusers, registers, and grilles with other items installed in ceilings and walls. 1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. NFPA Compliance: Install diffusers, registers, grilles and louvers according to NFPA 90A, "Standard for the Installation of Air- Conditioning and Ventilating Systems." ( )
2 PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 CEILING AIR DIFFUSERS A. General: Except as otherwise indicated, provide manufacturer's standard ceiling air diffusers where shown; of size, shape, capacity and type indicated; constructed of materials and components as specified and as required for complete installation. B. Performance: Provide ceiling air diffusers that have, as minimum, temperature and velocity traverses, throw and drop and noise criteria ratings for each size device as listed in manufacturer's current data. C. Ceiling Compatibility: Provide diffusers with border styles that are compatible with adjacent ceiling systems and that are specifically manufactured to fit into ceiling module with accurate fit and adequate support. Refer to general construction drawings and specifications for types of ceiling systems which will contain each type of ceiling air diffuser. D. Types: Provide ceiling diffusers of types, capacities and with accessories and finishes as required to provide capacities and performance requirements indicated on the drawings. E. Ceiling Diffusers, Modular, Panel Type: Furnish and install modular type 24" by 24" supply air diffusers, furnished with round sheet metal duct collar, adjustable air discharge pattern controller, back pan and face panel constructed of steel with off-white baked enamel factory finish. Diffusers shall be designed for installation in a lay-in tile ceiling grid system. Provide a volume control damper at each diffuser. F. Linear Slot Diffusers with Plenums: 1. Provide linear slot type diffusers for ceiling applications fabricated of extruded aluminum with off-white anodized finish. Diffusers shall be selected with the proper number of slots, slot widths and lengths for the capacities indicated on the drawings. Diffusers shall be furnished with an adjustable air pattern and flow control vane. 2. Diffusers shall be provided with factory furnished plenum boxes and inlet balancing dampers constructed of 24 gauge galvanized steel. Plenum box shall be lined with 1/2" thick, 1-1/2 PCF density glass fiber insulation with facing. Duct collar connector shall be provided on side of box. Plenum boxes shall be provided with sheetmetal extensions. G. Linear Bar Diffusers: 1. Linear bar type diffusers shall consist of 1/8 inch bars spaced 1/2 on center with a 15 degree deflection and fabricated of extruded aluminum with clear anodized finish. Diffusers shall be ( )
3 selected with the proper number of slots, slot widths and lengths for the capacities indicated on the drawings. 2. Diffusers for supply air shall be furnished with an adjustable air pattern and flow control vane and air volume control damper. Diffusers for return air shall be furnished without these components. 3. Diffusers shall be provided with factory furnished plenum boxes and inlet balancing dampers constructed of 24 gauge galvanized steel. Plenum box shall be lined with 1/2" thick, 1-1/2 PCF density glass fiber insulation with facing. Duct collar connector shall be provided on side of box. Plenum boxes shall be provided with sheetmetal extensions. H. Round Diffusers: Furnish round air diffusers of sizes and capacities indicated on the drawings. Diffusers shall be of the adjustable type complete with mounting rings, safety chains, cone adjusting screws, integral dampers and equalizing grids. Diffusers shall be arranged to obtain draft free air distribution. Diffusers shall be constructed of aluminum or of steel with off-white baked enamel finish. I. Laminar Flow Diffusers: 1. Diffusers shall be 2' by 4' modular, constructed using a 6" tall, maximum, plenum divided into two chambers: upper and lower. The plenum shall have integral hanger tabs for securing the unit to the overhead structure. The upper velocity dampening chamber shall be separated from the lower air dampening chamber by a pressure induction plate. All pattern controllers and baffles shall be internal to the unit and shall be located in the lower air dampening chamber. 2. The face of the diffuser shall be 51% free area stainless steel. The face shall not hang below the ceiling more than 6" and shall have clips securing it in place. The face, lower air chamber, directional blades, and the pressure induction plate shall be one assembly that can be removed from the face of the unit for sanitizing. The face shall be provided with two safety chains. The back pan shall be manufactured of 22 gauge aluminum minimum. J. ("RadiaTec" Series). b. Krueger Mfg. Co. 2.2 REGISTERS AND GRILLES A. General: Except as otherwise indicated, provide manufacturer's standard registers and grilles where shown; of size, shape, capacity and type indicated; constructed of materials and components as specified and as required for complete installation. B. Performance: Provide registers and grilles that have, as minimum, temperature and velocity traverses, throw and drop and noise criteria ratings for each size device and listed in manufacturer's current data. C. Compatibility: Provide registers and grilles with border styles that are compatible with adjacent wall and ceiling systems and that are specifically manufactured to fit into wall and ceiling construction with accurate fit and adequate support. Refer to general construction drawings and specifications for types of wall and ceiling construction which will contain each type of wall register and grille. D. Types: Provide registers and grilles of type, capacity and with accessories and finishes as required to provide capacities and performance requirements indicated on the drawings. E. Exhaust, Relief, Transfer and Return Air Grilles and Registers: 1. Grilles and registers shall be securely attached and supported from associated ductwork or, where not duct connected, shall be attached and supported from the building structural system ( )
5 Grilles and registers shall not be supported on ceilings of any type. 2. Grilles and register faces shall have off-white factory painted finishes. 3. Grilles shall be fabricated from steel and have horizontal steel louvers, spaced 3/4" on centers and fixed at 35 degrees deflection. 4. Registers shall be provided with an opposed blade balancing damper fabricated from steel with prime coat finish. F. Supply Air Registers: 1. Provide supply air registers consisting of double deflection solid-bar arrangement with adjustable vertical front louvers and adjustable horizontal back louver with frames. Supply registers shall be fabricated and finished as specified above for exhaust and return grilles and registers. 2. Supply registers shall be provided with an opposed-blade balancing damper. G. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by one of the following: 1. Exhaust, Relief, Transfer and Return Air Grilles and Registers: a. Anemostat Products Div.; Dynamics Corp. of America. (Series S3H). b. E. H. Price Co. (Series 530L). c. Krueger Mfg. Co. (Series S80H). d. Titus Products Div.; Philips Industries, Inc. (Series 350RL). 2. Supply Air Registers: a. Anemostat Products Div.; Dynamics Corp. of America. (Series S25VO). b. E. H. Price Co. (Series 520S). c. Krueger Mfg. Co. (Series 880). d. Titus Products Div.; Philips Industries, Inc. (Series 272RS). 2.3 LOUVERS A. General: Provide louvers where shown; of sizes, shapes, capacities and types indicated; constructed of materials and components as specified and as required for complete installation. B. Performance: Provide louvers that have minimum free area and maximum pressure drop of each type as listed in manufacturer's current data. C. Substrate Compatibility: Provide louvers with frames, clip angles, mounting hardware and sill styles that are compatible with adjacent substrate and that are specifically manufactured to fit into construction openings with accurate fit and adequate support, for weatherproof installation. Refer to general construction drawings and ( )
6 D. Fixed Intake and Discharge Air Louvers: 1. Louvers shall be the stationary drainable blade type with a frame depth of 4 inches. Frames and blades shall be.081 inch thick 6063-T5 extruded aluminum alloy. Blades shall be located on a 45 degree blade angle. Screens shall be provided on the interior of the louver and shall consist of 1/2" to 3/4" mesh or expanded aluminum with an extruded aluminum frame. Screens shall be mounted to the frame face and be removable for cleaning. Louvers shall be finished with a Kynar enamel finish selected by the Architect from the manufacturer's standard color charts. 2. Louvers shall pass 1000 FPM with less than.2 inch w.g. pressure drop and shall carry less than.01 ounces of water per square foot. Test criteria shall be based on a 48" square sample with a minimum 45.2 percent free area. Louvers shall bear the AMCA Certified Ratings Seal for both Air Performance and Water Penetration. 3. Where indicated on the drawings, louvers shall be furnished with blank-off panels constructed of.040" thickness sheet aluminum conforming to Aluminum Association Standards Designation No H14. Blank-off panels shall be double skinned panel sandwiching 2" thick, 3 psf density fiberglass insulation fill. Panels shall be fabricated by spot-welding the sheet aluminum to a 2" aluminum channel frame around the entire panel perimeter. Panels shall be finished on exposed surfaces with a Kynar enamel finish to match louver finish. Also provide blank-off panels on existing remaining wall louvers where indicated on the drawings. E. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by one of the following: 1. American Warming & Ventilating Inc. (Model LE-21). 2. Greenheck Corp. (Model ESD-403) 3. Louvers & Dampers, Inc. (Model IEL-4-304) PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine areas where diffusers, registers, grilles and louvers are to be installed for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of equipment. Do not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected ( )
7 3.2 INSTALLATION A. Install diffusers, registers, grilles and louvers level and plumb, according to manufacturer's written instructions, Coordination Drawings, original design, and referenced standards. B. Ceiling-Mounted Outlets and Inlets: Drawings indicate general arrangement of ducts, fittings, and accessories. Air outlet and inlet locations have been indicated to achieve design requirements for air volume, noise criteria, airflow pattern, throw, and pressure drop. Make final locations where indicated, as much as practicable. For units installed in lay-in ceiling panels, locate units in the center of the panel. Where architectural features or other items conflict with installation, notify the Architectural for a determination of final location. Support grilles registers and diffusers located in ceilings from overhead building structural steel or from ductwork. Do not support from ceiling grid. C. Install diffusers, registers, grilles and louvers with airtight connection to ducts and to allow service and maintenance of dampers. D. Install wall louvers in openings. Furnish and install structural lintels, clip angles, mounting hardware, flashing and frames suitable for the type of construction where louvers are installed. Seal around perimeter of louver frame with elastomeric joint sealants. Use Type S, Grade NS, Class 25, Use O, neutral-curing silicone sealant of color selected by the Architect. Installations shall be completely watertight. 3.3 ADJUSTING A. After installation, adjust diffusers, registers, and grilles to air patterns indicated, or as directed, before starting air balancing. 3.4 CLEANING A. After installation of diffusers, registers, grilles and louvers, inspect exposed finish. Clean exposed surfaces to remove burrs, dirt, and smudges. Replace diffusers, registers, grilles and louvers that have damaged finishes. END OF SECTION ( )
