2 WARNINGS & SAFETY WARNING Requires two persons for assembly. CAUTION Transport the packed kennel to the assembly location by forklift. Lift the main unit only from the long side. The forklift must use forks long enough (at least 60" or 1.52 m) to extend past the far edge of the packed unit (use fork extensions if necessary). 5 POSITIONING GENERAL GUIDELINES Assemble the entire system on a flat, level surface. Use the included extension cord to connect the HVAC unit to a power source. MULTIPLE KENNEL GUIDELINES Allow enough space between kennels to access the HVAC units for servicing. ASSEMBLY OUTLINE TIPS ASSEMBLY 1. Check the shipping container for components and damage, then remove the door panel and base and set them aside. 2. Unpack the floor panels and lay them flat on the ground. 3. Unpack the wall panels and insert them into the floor panels. 4. Attach the roof panels. 5. Attach the assembled modules to the shipping container, then attach the door panel and base to the front of Module 2. Cut strings and remove cardboard and padding as you remove each component. Assemble as you unpack. Compression straps should be wrapped as closely as possible around metal supports, avoiding gaps when possible to prevent the dog from chewing on them. 5

6 Compression strap buckles should always be secured on the outside of the kennel to prevent the dog from chewing on them (a choking hazard). Remove slack from the compression straps as much as possible when tightening. When a strap is looped more than once around the supports, the first loop tends to retain most of the slack. Important: Remove twists in straps before buckling. CHECK CONTENTS 1. Check the 2 shock warning labels (one should be located on the front of the shipping container, the other on the back). Take note of any shock indicators that show red and follow the instructions on the label. 2. Check the contents of the shipping container to make sure all parts are included. 6

7 REMOVE DOOR PANEL 1. Unbuckle the compression straps on the door panel. These straps are attached to the frame, so do not completely remove them. 2. Lift the door panel off of the floor stanchions of the shipping container, then set the door panel aside. 3. Remove the door panel base and set it aside next to the door panel. 7

8 BUILD MODULES 1. Remove the two hitch pins on the vertical supports under the shipping container s roof, then raise the roof slightly to unpack the floor panels. 2. Remove the two floor panels from the shipping container and set them aside, then replace the hitch pins you removed in Step For each floor panel, unpack two wall panels and insert them into the floor panel s stanchions. IMPORTANT Make sure that the wall panels with the straps are inserted into Module 1 s floor panel. The document storage tube should be on the left outer wall of Module 1. 8

9 4. Unpack the roof panels, then lower them into place, sliding the corner braces into the wall panel s vertical supports. 5. Slide Module 1 securely against the shipping container. 6. On Module 1 s left wall next to the sleep box, attach and tighten the compression strap at the base, then attach and tighten the compression strap where the roof sections join. 9

10 7. On Module 1 s right wall, attach and tighten the compression strap at the base, then attach and tighten the compression strap where the roof sections join. 10

11 8. Use the compression straps at the front of Module 1 to secure it to Module 2 (3 straps on each side). Wrap the top strap in an X around the supports as shown, then buckle on the outside and tighten. Wrap the two lower straps once around the supports, then buckle on the outside and tighten. 9. Walk through both modules and tighten the compression straps more, if possible. Important: Make sure that no slack remains in the straps to prevent shifting of kennel components and to prevent dogs from biting or gnawing the straps. Tip: Slack is most common in the first loop of a double wrap. Tip: Periodically check the straps within the exercise area for chew damage and replace them, if necessary. 11

12 ATTACH DOOR PANEL 1. Make sure that the door panel base s middle stanchion is toward the left, with its angled support side facing left, then lower the door panel onto the base s stanchions. 2. Slide the door panel assembly against the front of Module Keeping the door closed, secure one of the upper side compression straps to Module 2. This holds the door panel in place while you attach the remaining straps. 4. Open the door and secure the rest of the straps. 12

13 ATTACH TARPS Permeable tarps provide shade and privacy for the dog, reducing its stress without reducing ventilation. In a multiple-kennel setting, tarps can prevent the dogs from seeing each other and becoming agitated. Two sizes of tarps are provided with the kennel: 136" x 48" (3.45 m 1.22 m) (for the long side and the roof) 88" x 48" (2.24 m 1.22 m) (for the short side) Recommendations: Attach wall tarps to the lower edge of the walls, leaving a gap at the top. Attach the short tarp with 4 carabiners on each long edge (minimum). Attach the long tarps with 5 carabiners to each long edge (minimum). 13

14 INSTALL HVAC The HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) components are stored inside the sleep box for shipment. The packaging contains the HVAC unit, mounting hardware, and documentation. We recommend you store the HVAC documentation with this manual. CAUTION: Use two persons for this task. CAUTION: You must store the HVAC unit upright. If the unit was not upright prior to unpacking, you must store it vertically for 24 hours before connecting power to allow the refrigerant to settle. Failing to follow his precaution can damage the HVAC compressor. 1. Remove the protective cardboard from the HVAC vent on the sleep box. 2. Unpack the HVAC unit. Make sure the unit remains upright. If it tips over, you must store it vertically for 24 hours before connecting power to allow the refrigerant to settle, or the HVAC compressor can be damaged. 3. Slide the gasket panel over the threaded posts on the HVAC unit. Make sure that the soft gasket material is facing away from the HVAC unit. 4. Hand-tighten 2 standoffs onto the threaded posts near the top of the HVAC unit, then hand-tighten the two double-threaded standoffs into the threaded holes about half-way down. 5. While keeping the HVAC unit upright, lift it and insert the standoffs into the mounting holes around the HVAC vent on the sleep box. Hold the HVAC unit against the sleep box while an assistant finishes the next steps from within the sleep box. 14

15 6. On the inside of the sleep box, slide the lower flange onto the lower standoffs, then attach one lock washer and one wing nut onto each of the lower standoffs and tighten. 7. Slide the upper flange onto the upper standoffs, then attach one lock washer and one wing nut onto each of the upper standoffs and tighten. 15

16 8. Insert the filter into the gap on the right side of the HVAC opening until it magnetically attaches to the inside of the HVAC unit. 9. If the HVAC unit has been upright for at least 24 hours, connect the included extension cord to the HVAC unit and a power source. 10. Follow the instructions in the HVAC s documentation for HVAC operation. FINAL STEPS Remove cardboard packing from the sleep box dog access door and make sure the door flap operates smoothly. Store all documentation in the document storage tube on the left side of Module 1. 16

17 REPACKING Pack the components in the reverse order of how they were removed. Remove the HVAC unit and secure it upright in the shipping container. Tie components to walls and together to prevent shifting during shipment. Secure the door straps, then wrap the packed module to secure for shipment. KENNEL MAINTENANCE You should clean the kennel regularly to help keep the dog healthy and happy. 1. Hose off the floor of the exercise area and the sleep box, then lift the sleep box flooring out of the way and hose out the sleep box again. Do not spray directly into the HVAC vent inside the sleep box (wipe down the upper walls instead). 2. Scrub all surfaces with light-duty cleaning agents and hot water, then rinse. 3. Leave the dog access door and handler access door open to dry the sleep box. 4. If possible, disinfect the kennel surfaces after rinsing. ADDITIONAL TIPS For convenient leash storage, clip it to one of the kennel s door latches instead of using a carabiner or lock. Regularly tighten the compression straps and check for chew damage. 17
