5 Amended October 2006 Recommended Practice DNV-RP-A202, January 2001 see note on front cover Page 5 1. General 1.1 Purpose, assumptions and application Purpose The purpose of the documentation requirements is to provide a basis to verify that selected, safety critical parts of the requirements of the DNV Offshore Standards are complied with in the design of the unit. A satisfactory document review is a prerequisite for assignment of DNV class. The document review shall, in connection with assignment of DNV class, be complemented by surveys and review of the client s quality system Assumptions The documentation requirements are laid down under the following assumptions: The client s capabilities and competence conforms with the project s objectives The client operates according to acceptable quality management principles (e.g. ISO 9000) A thorough description of the project s conceptual design, through philosophy documents etc., are submitted early in the project If DNV does not consider the above assumptions to be fulfilled, additional documentation will be required to be submitted. Review of such documentation will be considered as extra work Industrial practice The organisation and content of the documentation requirements is based on DNV s understanding of common industrial practice. Alternative approaches will be considered, provided that the information submitted covers the information requested through the documentation requirements Application The documentation requirements apply to a specific type of unit only if the intersecting field between the documentation requirement row and the type of unit column is filled in with an applicable class notation abbreviation. The documentation requirements apply only to systems, functions, structural regions and equipment that shall be installed on the unit. Where the class notation Non-selfpropelled (NSP) is listed and applicable, the documentation requirement does not apply Conversions Documentation requirements applicable for conversions shall be determined case by case Document coverage A document may cover more than one system, function, structural region or equipment. A document may cover more than one documentation type. 1.2 Organisation of the documentation requirements Standard documentation types The documentation requirements are based on standard documentation types. The standard documentation types are organised according to engineering disciplines. Definitions of the applicable standard documentation types are given in Guideline No Identification The numbering of the systems, functions, structural regions and equipment corresponds to the DNV Classification Information Breakdown Structure (CIBS). The standard documentation type number together with the systems, functions, structural regions or equipment (CIBS) number can be used as a identifier for the document requirement Yard or manufacturer Each documentation requirement is marked with Y or M, which signifies: Y: The corresponding documents shall be submitted by the yard, and reviewed by DNV as a part of the class contract M: The corresponding documents shall be submitted by the manufacturer, and reviewed by DNV as a part of the Certification of Materials and Components (CMC) activities For information Some documentation requirements are marked with FI which signifies that the corresponding documents shall be submitted for information only Type approved systems and equipment Some documentation requirements are marked with TA, which signifies that the corresponding documents shall not be submitted for type approved systems and equipment Local handling Some documentation requirements are marked with L, which signifies that the corresponding documents normally shall be reviewed at the local DNV office only On request Some documentation requirements are marked with R, which signifies that the corresponding documents shall be submitted on request only. 1.3 Handling of documentation Submittance Documentation required by this document shall be submitted to DNV in duplicate. The documentation shall be submitted in a logical sequence, and in packages enabling complete review of a system, function, structural region or equipment DNV review DNV shall review one initial issue of a document and one revision due to incorporation of DNV comments. Additional revisions and revisions reflecting other design changes will be considered as extra work. Review of requested documents (marked with R) will be considered as extra work. DNV shall revert with a statement relating to the regulatory basis for the document review and with possible comments. DNV shall not stamp nor return drawings, unless DNV s comments are given in the form of mark-ups on the drawings, as relevant for e.g. structural drawings. Stamping and return of documentation will be considered as extra work. 1.4 Type approved products Reference to certificate For type approved systems and equipment, written reference shall be made to the type approval certificate number, the manufacturer s name and product type identification. Copies of the type approval certificates shall not be submitted unless required by Documentation covered by the type approval For type approved systems and equipment, the documents corresponding to documentation requirements marked with TA shall not to be submitted. However, the corresponding docu-

6 Recommended Practice DNV-RP-A202, January 2001 Amended October 2006 Page 6 see note on front cover ments shall be submitted if: The type approval does not cover the design aspects related to the documentation requirement The design of the system or equipment has been modified after the type approval Type approved systems For type approved systems, where different options exist for the configuration, a copy of the type approval certificate shall be submitted, completed with information about the equipment that is incorporated in the design. 1.5 List of applicable class notations and their abbreviations Class notations Table 1-1 provides an overview of applicable class notations, their abbreviations and possible qualifiers, as used in relation to the documentation requirements Table 1-1 List of applicable class notations and their abbreviations Abbreviation Qualifier Class notation 1A1 Main class (mandatory for all mobile units) OI Main class (mandatory for all permanently placed offshore installations) DRU Drilling unit PSU Production and storage unit CRANE Crane DRILL Drilling plant DYNPOS Dynamic positioning systems T Semi-automatic position keeping system without redundancy AUTS Automatic position keeping system without redundancy AUT Automatic position keeping system, with a remote thrust control back-up and a position reference back-up AUTR Automatic position keeping system with redundancy in technical design AUTRO Automatic position keeping system with redundancy in technical design and physical arrangement E0 Periodically unattended machinery space ECO Machinery centralised operated F- Additional fire protection (to be used together with at least one qualifier) A For accommodation space M For machinery space C For cargo space HELDK Helicopter deck S Unit safety SH Unit and helicopter safety HMON Hull monitoring 1 Basic hull monitoring 2 Hull and environmental monitoring ICS Integrated computer systems LCS Loading computer systems LIAP Lifting appliances (ref.
