4 Technical Performance Dent resistant solutions for Coretinium One challenge for Coretinium is that due to the very thin 0.4mm skins and open honeycomb structure, it can be prone to localised impact damage or denting from small diameter, high point loads. Basic solutions are: Increase steel skin thickness: e.g. 0.55mm skins Increase the tensile strength of the steel: currently using S220 for edge folding option, but could consider high strength substrates for flat board type applications. Alternative solution: add a wear plate to the top skin. *Examples shown are 10mm Coretinium with a glass fibre skin from thyssenkrupp Materials (UK) adhesively bonded to the Colorcoat Prisma steel skin. 4 April 2016 Coretinium - Compression Performance thyssenkrupp Materials (UK) Ltd

5 Technical Performance Compression & point load performance The basic compression resistance of Coretinium can be enhanced by using slightly thicker polymer to create stronger cell walls. Note: small scale compression tests do not give a true reflection of real world performance due to the edge effect where the partial, open honeycombs will buckle outwards. Typical performance: 4400N* for 50mm x 50mm test piece Applying a 50mm x 50mm point load compression test piece to a larger Coretinium sample requires a 5700N* load before indentation & local compression occurs. While some localised marking will occur and be visible at loads above 5700N, deformation is resisted / slowed down due to the composite action of the surrounding steel & polymer core so loads will rise again to over 9500N*. Note: The localised point load performance of Coretinium can be further enhanced by using thicker and/or higher strength steel skin.
