Having worked in industry for over 30 years in positions ranging up to senior management, his industrial experience ranges from design, manufacturing, process improvement and consulting across a wide range of sectors including automotive, manufacturing, construction, steel and railway industries. Bob has also been instructed over 800 times as an expert witness in disputes, personal injury, damage claims and fatality cases. 3 Selection of Experience Automotive Engineering Stress and Vibration Analysis Stress and Vibration analysis of automotive components primarily using Finite Element Analysis. For example: the analysis of the vibration induced failure of a compressor bracket and the subsequent re-design to alter its natural frequency. Tunnelling and Mining Equipment Channel Tunnel Boring Machine Bob completed the stress analysis of the 2 main tunnel boring machines for the Channel Tunnel project. The project represented the first large scale application of finite element analysis to the design of a shield and cutter head. Bob appeared in a subsequent TV documentary on the project. Mining Equipment Stress and Design analysis in various mine winders and components for road headers. Failed Shield Investigation Damage claim investigation of a failed tunnelling shield for the London Ring Main Project. Construction Modular Buildings and Cell Sites Design and analysis of modular building and equipment housings. fatigue analysis. Mast design, stress and Research Bob was formally a senior manager of a Construction Research Department. It featured knowledge groups for Design and Analysis, Prototyping and Product Development and Construction Technology. He managed a workshop with a variety of machine tools and laboratories with UKAS ISO accreditation. Bob was also a representative on ESTEP (European Steel Technology Platform) WG3 - Construction Working Group wherein collaborative European Commission funded RFCS projects were formed and negotiated prior to submission, which resulted in his department overseeing a large, 25 Partner, European Union Framework project entitled Manubuild. Damage claim investigation relating to defective double-glazing units for a London Office Block. An Engineering Report on the Spacer Stress Analysis was prepared for the Court. Steel Industry Plant performance and Process Improvement. Bob managed a team of professional engineers who were improving plant performance in terms of reliability, failure prediction and investigation, and product optimisation through rolling, straightening, levelling, heat-treatment, cutting and shearing machine technology and set-up improvements. +44 (0) Issue 001 3

4 Railway Industry Railway Rolling Stock Design and Structural Analysis, using Finite Element Analysis of railway rolling stock and the associated equipment. Personal Injury Acted as an Expert Witness in personal injury claims resulting from workplace machinery and equipment accidents, slips, trips and falls, manual handling and work related upper limb disorders. Author of many reports for the Court, advising on accident causation, foreseeability, safety measures required, regulatory standards and good practice. Occupational Disease Bob has acted as an Expert Witness providing engineering evidence in relation to noise induced hearing loss causes, hand-arm vibration and occupational disease claims as a consequence of exposure to organic solvents, oil and other workplace contaminants. Author of many reports for Court, advising on likely sources and levels of exposure and risks to health.
