3 Tapisom Tecsom The Tecsom tufted carpet tile has been quickly identified as the ideal removable loose lay solution for commercial applications. As a result of many years of expertise, Tecsom is suitable for many applications such as offices, stores & shops, public sectors, various commercial areas and hospitality. The 100% polyamide surface (mainly Solution Dyed Yarns) and the stabilised PVC Backing System are the foundations of the extraordinary qualities of this floor solution: YARN SYSTEM : an in-house blend of high-tech yarns for better performances in heavy traffic areas : > use of an exclusive bank of yarns, > flexibility of the tufting process > excellent colour constancy and optimum uniformity within a batch due to the use of solution dyed yarns > flexibility for creating specials > enables easy and effective methods of cleaning BACKING SYSTEM : recycled vinyl backing system, key to many of the powerful advantages of Tecsom carpet tile > best dimensional stability with values as low as 0.10% average (compared with the 0.20% stipulated by the EN986 standard) > environmental care : 100% recycled vinyl > superb broadloom effect > extreme resistance to heavy traffic, castor chairs > no breaking, no tearing > for tackifier installation, no risk of vinyl transfer onto the floor The Tecsom carpet tile concept also offers scope for endless design possibilities. 67 TECSOM WARRANTY For standard Tecsom products 10 YEAR WARRANTY for standard Tecsom products This warranty applies to all first quality commercial textile floor covering products branded Tecsom, manufactured by TECSOM SAS, installed by external qualified professional installers according to procedures outlined in the Tecsom s then-current edition of installation and maintenance manuals. 1- USAGE Tecsom products are guaranteed only for internal building, professional use. 2- PERIOD This guarantee is valid 10 years from the date of delivery. 3- COVERAGE The warranty covers most important performance properties: dimensional stability and wearing behaviour. Dimensional stability is defined by shrinkage, extension, bowling and squareness according EN 13 and EN Wearing performance assures a pile mass of at least 90% of the origin pile surface weight. 4- WARRANTY CONDITION Any defect must be notified in writing, together with details of orders and invoicing within two weeks after it has been detected. Claims will only be accepted after examination. If necessary, Tecsom reserves the right to remove from site a quantity of the floor covering for laboratory analysis. The warranty will be valid provided that the following conditions have been met: 5- EXCLUSIONS This warranty is invalid if damage is caused as a result of fire, accident, including aggressive chemical attack or increased abrasion due to being poorly maintained or lack of entrance barrier matting, explosion, pollution, flood, freezing conditions, lighting, careless, vandalism or damage during transport, storage and handling before or during installation. This warranty only applies to first choice goods and does not apply to goods sold as B grade or out of collection clearing lines, or products on special promotion. The guarantee takes into account all production processes and common, tolerances relating to thickness, structure, colour, design and weight. This warranty does not cover use in staircases, use in free-lay condition under traffic of small wheeled trolleys, damages caused by abnormal use, by stains, sharp objects, burns or others, or use of un-adapted cleaning agents. It does not cover either shading, pile reversal, pile crush, batch variations or soiling which are not manufactured defects. This warranty does not cover damages resulting of installation modifications or tile removals, or possible movements from the subfloor raised-access floors, partition-walls, furniture and cables or others immediately placed around, under or on the carpet-tiles. This warranty does not cover the areas where stiletto heeled shoes are in use. The products are liable to suffer damage from intense point loading pressure. We therefore cannot be held responsible for any loss in appearance where such heels are in use. 6- INDEMNIFYING CONDITIONS The replacement will be carried out on damaged areas only and will not extend to the entire project or part of unless all material is agreed as faulty. All costs for assembling or disassembling of furniture and partitioning, etc, are excluded. Should the product in question be out of collection and no longer available, Tecsom reserves the right to propose an alternative product. Tecsom will not accept responsibility for any consequential damages nor for any costs other than those directly involved with the replacement of the floor covering, such as penalties or any similar charges. The specified floor covering must be suitable for the use intended, in accordance with recommended use specified in the technical manual. The subfloor is suitable for the application of any of the above mentioned commercial floor coverings (see the technical specification sheet) and all accessories, i.e. subfloor preparations, adhesives, must be approved by Tecsom. An adequate maintenance programme must be put in place immediately after installation, and this must encompass an adequate dirt barrier at all entrance points where an entrance from the exterior or from heavily soiled areas is possible; the materials are to be maintained in accordance with Tecsom cleaning instructions. The warranty excludes all damage which has occurred to the commercial floor covering as a result of abrasions from external elements: sand, grit, bitumen, building material, etc. Furthermore excluded from the warranty are coloration or discoloration phenomena on the surface, stains connected with external sources (paints, tar, bitumen, dye stuffs, regenerated rubber castors and chair legs, indentation marks caused by non adapted pieces of furniture). It must also be ensured that the bottom supports of furniture and chair castors are such that they will not damage the surface of the commercial floor covering

68 N.B. Only material cut into strips which include the manufactured sheet edges are suitable for utilising for fill-in sections. Do not use strops cut from the centre of a sheet, as there is a risk of shading. Installation Tapisom Installing your Tapisom Professionally is essential to the product s efficiency in terms of wear and durability. 3- Adhering: Fold back the sheets in their length direction. Apply the acrylic adhesive using a notched trowel; apply at least 320g/m². 4- After applying the adhesive, fold back down the 1st sheet and firmly rub in with a glide or rubbing board. Fold back down the 2nd sheet whilst ensuring that the joint is close butted and firmly rub in with a glide or a rubbing board. Proceed in the same manner for all following sheets. 5- Trim with a hooked blade. Proceed in the same manner for the 2nd half of all of the sheets. WAIT FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE REPLACING THE FURNITURE. Preparation of subfloors The subfloor must be flat, dry, sound, clean and absorbent. The levelling compound chosen must have a suitable compressive strength to suit the type of traffic and equipment being used within the area. It may be necessary to apply a primer, depending on the type of levelling compound chosen. Never apply a levelling compound to a timber substrate unless to be overlaid with Plywood etc. Conditions for use: precautions The temperatures must be above 10 C. When installing sheets of material within the same area, only use rolls with the same batch number and install in sequential roll order. For patterned material, ensure that sufficient material is allowed when cutting off lengths of sheets to ensure the pattern alignment is correct (at seam, 90 and diagonally) Attention 1- Tapisom Design: in general reverse the sheet to the previous one installed. 2- Tapisom plain: install the sheet in the same direction as the previous one installed. Commence installing the sheets from the centre of the room 1- Overlap the sheets by 3cm or by the required pattern match, if appropriate. N.B. Only material cut into strips which include the manufactured sheet edges are suitable for utilising for fill-in sections. This factory edge must be reversed and abutted to the previous sheet installed. Do not install strips that do not have a manufactured edge, as there is a potential risk of shading. 2- Using a knife with a hooked blade, simultaneously cut the top sheet into the bottom sheet using a straightedge as a guide for the knife

69 Installation Tecsom tiles can be loose laid. Due to the Backing System, the unique backing reinforced with fibreglass,tecsom carpet tiles require no adhesion to maintain shape and stability. However, in large and heavy trafficked areas and underneath castor chairs, Tecsom recommends some form of adhesion to prevent the tiles moving on the subfloor. Several options are available to stop the tiles skating or shifting. Tackifier can be applied all over the subfloor, but it is also possible to secure some strategic tiles. For example, one row every 12 m can be fixed (with adhesive or tackifier). Tecsom Tiles 1. Subfloors The subfloors must be flat, level, dry, sound, clean and free from debris, and must have an effective damp-proof membrane. European Norms for subfloor preparation should be followed. Where the subfloor has been levelled or patched, the applications and curing times stated by the manufacturers must be followed. Where chipboard, plywood or hardboard are used, they must be primed and suitable for flooring grade installations. Raised access flooring should be clean and dust-free, and the panels must be adjusted to be uniformly level. Failure to do this may result in some carpet tiles being raised proud of those adjacent, causing an unsightly appearance and potential edge damage to some tiles. 2. Acclimatisation Carpet tiles should be installed in conditions as close as possible to those which will prevail when the building is operational. All the tiles should be unpacked, restacked squarely and allowed to acclimatise at room temperature for 24/48 hours. The room temperature should be a minimum of 12 C, with the subfloor temperature at least 15 C. The relative humidity of the room air should be max. 65%. 3. Precautions To achieve uniformity and a true broadloom effect, installation should be carried out in clear open areas free of all other trades, dust, detritus and any other tools and equipment. During installation, there should be no walking or through traffic in the installation area and certainly no traffic over the partly completed installation. Shading can occur in all piled textiles. Because of storage/transport, certain velour products are very susceptible to pile pressure. This causes variation in the shading of the velour and creates a visual colour vibration. It is a condition where some pile may lie, permanently or temporarily, in a different direction from other areas and thus reflect light slightly differently, which is apparent as light or dark patches. 1 - First of all, ensure that the same batch is used over the whole surface of one level. 2 - Allow the product to breathe in such a way that it gradually returns to its original condition. 3 - Vacuum clean and allow traffic to do the rest. The product will begin to resemble carpet again relatively quickly. Please note that this is not a manufacturing defect. It is an inherent part of the product s structure. 4. Installation Use the same batch number for each continuous area. Unless the client has specifically recommended that they are laid chequerboard - in which case they should be laid at an angle of 90 to each other - please note that all Tecsom carpet tiles are manufactured as being suitable for laying in broadloom fashion unless otherwise stated. Tecsom tiles are laid in the same direction and must be installed tightly together to obtain a broadloom effect. Arrows on the reverse of all Tecsom carpet tiles show the pile direction of the product. Ensure that these arrows are all laid in the same direction. All adhesives or tackifiers must be PVC-compatible. The recommendations of the manufacturers of these products must be followed, particularly with regard to curing times. If tackifier is used in a grid fashion, it should be applied with a roller. Setting out Diagram 1 illustrates the setting out of axes horizontally (A-B) and vertically (C-D). First, find the best setting out points to utilise a maximum size tile at the perimeter walls. The lines intersecting at right angles should be snapped with chalk lines. Once these measurements and angles have been checked, the tackifier should be applied to the subfloor. Installation Lay the tiles to complete quarter 1 and follow the sequence of numbers as detailed in diagram 1. Always bear in mind: the aesthetics of the installation (distribution of the joints) use whole or half-tile at thresholds, lift floors or high-traffic areas Always start installing the tiles in the middle of the room. Never start next to a wall or door. Begin installing the tiles in a pyramid shape, starting where your lines cross to obtain a symmetrical installation. Butt the tiles firmly together, ensuring that no pile material becomes trapped between the edges of the tiles and that there is no gapping. NEVER block from the surface. ENSURE that the back of each tile is blocked by the back of the next WITH NO SPACE BETWEEN THEM. NOTE: Tecsom carpet tiles are cut to strict tolerances. If the carpet tiles go out of bond, re-trace along the line to find where gapping has occurred. Take up that row and re-lay it correctly in bond
