Control joints are reqired at all openings, changes in wall height, between main intersecting walls, corners and for long rnning walls withot openings at a distance of 1 1/2 times the height of the masonry, as otlined in TEK Gide 10-2B. The empirical method notes that the distance is for the masonry only and if brick is sed, it is shold be treated independently for expansion and the appropriate brick technical gidelines followed. The most common shrinkage/ restraint isses come from drying shrinkage, temperatre changes, carbonation and differential movement. Cavity wall constrction is recommended with proper flashing, venting and weep holes. Install weep holes and vents at proper intervals and at any water stops over windows, doors and beams.
