1 UGRA LVL Laminated Veneer Lumber INTRODUCTION TO UGRA LVL Ugra LVL is an engineered wood composite made from rotary peeled veneers, laid up with parallel grain orientation. One of the main features of LVL is to disperse or remove strength-reducing characteristics of wood. Ugra LVL is an engineered, highly predictable, uniform lumber product, because natural defects such as knots, slope of grain and splits have been dispersed throughout the veneer assembly or have been removed altogether. In addition to this, the veneer sheets are placed in a spe- product to maximise the potential of the stiffer and stronger veneer grades. This can be considered as an engi- Ugra LVL properties are conse- laminated timber (glulam) and stress graded timber. The average of most strength characteristics is higher and when compared to solid wood. Ugra LVL is dimensionally stable, resists warping and twisting and is machined to consistently uniform sizes. MANUFACTURE Ugra LVL is manufactured by laminating ultrasonically graded Pine, Larch veneer sheets, using phenolic adhesive, in a continuous assembly in which the grain direction of the veneers are orientated in the longitudinal direction. In some instances, cross band veneers may be introduced. Using highly sophisticated continuous belt pressing technology and microwave pre-heating, it is pressed as a 1800mm nominal width continuous billet in various standard thicknesses. It can ripped into standard widths for use as structural members. STRUCTURAL RELIABILITY The structural properties for Ugra LVL have been determined by testing of EN Structural Laminated Veneer Lumber. SURFACE APPEARANCE Because Ugra LVL is a natural product the face veneers may contain minor blemishes such as knots, small knot holes, scarf joints or glue marks. The surface may be planed or sanded and It should be noted that a sanded or planed surface makes the product more susceptible to surface swelling and cracking due to lathe checks becoming exposed in the outer veneer. Exposure to weather for long periods of time can result in swelling and discolouration. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS The Ugra LVL manufacturing process results in very few emissions of any kind. The raw materials are sourced from renewable plantations in the Siberian region. Ugra LVL is produced in a hightechnology mill which has strict environmental controls on amenity features and emission levels. Burning of wood waste generated in veneer preparation and billet processing provides most of the on- site heating resulting in a major reduction in CO 2 emissions compared with burning fossil fuels, and makes Ugra LVL manufacturing greenhouse neutral. Timber construction has been internationally accepted as an environmentally responsible choice, when compared to alternative materials such as steel, concrete or aluminium. This can be demonstrated from a life cycle analysis, including the impacts of material extraction, manufacture, construction, use and disposal. In addition, the technological base of manufacture ensures that Ugra LVL is a less waste than sawn timber. Engineered to project Consistent strength (flooring-roofing-walls) (birch, larch & pine)

4 Product Specification Ugra LVL is an ideal solution for load-bearing structures requiring great strength. Ugra LVL is perfect as horizontal and vertical supports for roofs and intermediate floors, or as differentcomponents used by the construction and vehicle industries. New applications continue to come on stream. The range of Ugra LVL cross-sections is extensive. The products are cut to specifications and delivered to the destination sites or, in the case of the most common cross-sections, products are available for immediate delivery from In Ugra-S, the grains run longitudinally throughout the veneer layers. It is a good choice for public buildings and multi-storey timber buildings to one-of-a-kind dwellings. Ugra-S is appropriate for loadbearing structures and can be used is suitableto new construction as well as renovations where Ugra-S beams are a convenient wayof supporting old structures or replacing them completely. The product is suitableto new construction as well as renovations where Ugra- S beams are a convenient wayof supporting old structures or replacing them completely. Ugra-T In Ugra-T framework studs, grains run longitudinally throughout the veneers. Ugra-T is suitable for load-bearing and non-bearing structures in external and internal walls. Tall walls are easy to construct and can be counted on remaining straight. Ugra-T can be used with any sheet materials which are eas- Ugra-Q With some of the veneers glued crosswise, Ugra-Q is ideally used as panels. Moisture-induced changes are minimal in Ugra-Q and the crosswise veneers help eliminate them further. The cross-veneers give Ugra-Q additional crosswise stiffness, allowing the panels to be used to enhance structural stability. As beams, the productis an excellent solution in cross-veneer structure considerably improves the vertical load bearing strength of Ugra-Q, it is also very good as lintel material. Applications LVL is an ideal material for frame house building, construction of sheds, industrial and commercial buildings, and sport facilities; also it perfectly suits for joist ceilings between storeys, for roofs, attics, and other structures. As LVL beam length reaches 18 m, designers are free to make real almost any architectural decisions: for instance, a hall 18 x 18 m can be constructed without additional bearing walls or columns. There is a wide range of LVL applications, among which are: truss systems; -frame house building (as load bearing members, beams for practically all sizes of floor beams, trusses, etc.); -floor, walls and ceiling structures; -as elements of concrete casing for cast-inplace construction. The broad spectrum of LVL applications allows to successfully use it in construction of: houses with different number of storeys; -administrative buildings and offices; -dining halls, cafés, and shops; -kindergartens, schools, and other educational institutions; -stadiums; -tennis courts; -indoor skating rinks; -culture and entertainment centers; -exhibition halls; -temporary constructions, etc. Thanks to its strength properties and dimensional stability, LVL is successfully used not only as a structural material, but also for other purposes like doors production (as a door frame).
