3 PE foam tapes for windows The energy efficiency of windows in residential buildings varies widely, largely depending on the technology used and the age or condition of the window. Window sealing tape The most effective way to improve the energy efficiency of many old buildings is to apply weatherstripping to the windows, stopping drafts. Foam sealing tape is applied between the sash and window frame. 4 PE foam tapes for windows 150 million windows are produced in Europe every year. Over the past 30 years, window technology has progressed and energy loss through windows has been reduced by up to 80 percent. Window glazing: state-of-the-art window systems Modern energy-efficient windows use double or triple gazing. These heavy glazing units require stronger and larger window frames, which reduces the effective glazing area and the light transmitted through the window. This drawback can be eliminated by a fundamentally different window design in which the glazing unit is the structural member and the lighter frame is simply attached to it by using a double sided PE foam tape. The glass area is maximised and thermal efficiency is improved because steel reinforcement in the frame is eliminated. Through this clever solution the use of silicone can be avoided. The advantage is a cleaner and more efficient production process, since there is no curing time or spillage of silicone. 7 Energy-efficient insulated wall systems Many façades of commercial buildings are built with prefabricated sandwich panels. In Europe, more than 100 million square metres of sandwich elements are produced every year. Sandwich panel sealing The joints between sandwich panels must be sealed for airtightness. The foam sealing tape should possess low air permeability and should be soft to facilitate assembly of the panels.
