This section includes supporting and anchoring of equipment, piping ductwork and associated accessories specified in subsequent sections as well as sealing of penetrations through building components due to same. Hyspan Or equal INSERTS, EXPANSION SHIELDS, AND CLAMPS A. Inserts for use in poured-in-place concrete shall have malleable iron cases or galvanized steel shells and expander plugs for threaded connection with lateral adjustment, top slot for reinforcing rods, lugs for attaching to forms. B. Size inserts to fit threaded hanger rods. C. Use drilled insert expansion shields on concrete walls and on sides of concrete beams. Do not use power-driven fasteners, expansion nail type anchors, or friction spring-type clips. D. In areas of metal decking and joists, all pipe and duct shall be hung from joists and intermediate steel with Elcen No. 25 malleable iron "C" clamps. Provide angles and channels to span between joists PIPE HANGERS AND SUPPORTS A. Hangers for Uninsulated Pipe: An adjustable wrought steel clevis, Elcen No. 12. B. Hangers for Cold Insulated Pipe, All Sizes: An adjustable wrought steel clevis, Elcen No. 12, sized to suit 360 degree high-density insulation insert. C. Hangers for Hot Insulated Pipe, Sizes 1/2" to 1-1/2": An adjustable wrought steel clevis, Elcen No. 12, sized to suite a 180 degree, 20 gauge galvanized sheet metal insulation saddle, 12" long.

Hangers for Hot Insulated Steel Pipe, Sizes 2" and Larger: Adjustable roller hanger with steel yoke and cast iron roller, Elcen No. 14, with Series 250 welded insulation protection saddle, size to accommodate insulation. E. Hangers for Hot Insulated Copper Pipe, Sizes 2" and Larger: Same as for steel except with 360 degree high-density insert. F. Rollers or Sliding-Type Supports: Provide for hangers of all sizes to permit free movement of piping where expansion and contraction will occur. G. High Density Insulation Inserts: 360 degree rigid calcium silicate (waterproofed for chilled water) inserts having 360 degree sheet metal sleeve at all hangers supporting all insulated pipes 2-1/2" and larger. Thickness shall match pipe covering thicknesses. Inserts shall be Pipe Shields, Inc., for chilled water, Model A-2000 and A-4000; for all other insulated lines, Model A-1000 and A-3000; each of which shall be selected predicated upon hanger type or pipe size. H. Multiple or Trapeze Hangers: Steel channels or angles with welded spaces and hanger rods, sized to support load. I. Wall Support for Pipe Sizes to 3": Cast iron hooks. J. Wall Support for Pipe, Sizes 4" and Larger: Welded steel bracket and wrought steel clamp; adjustable steel yoke and cast iron roll for hot pipe, sizes 5" and larger. K. Vertical Support: Steel riser clamp, Elcen No. 39. L. Floor Support for Hot Pipe, Sizes to 4", and All Cold Pipe Sizes: Cast iron adjustable pipe saddle, locknut nipple, floor flange, and concrete pier or steel support. M. Floor Support for Hot Pipe, Sizes 5" and Larger: Adjustable cast iron roll and stand, steel screws, and concrete pier of steel support. N. Design hangers to impede disengagement by movement of supported pipe. O. Provide copper-plated hangers and supports for copper piping or provide isolator between hanger or support and piping. P. Provide angles or channels to span joists and distribute load.
4 Q. Do not use wire for either temporary or permanent hanger or support purposes PIPE ISOLATORS A. Provide each hanger or clamp for insulated piping with a metal-backed pipe isolating material to isolate sound vibration and electrolysis. Isolators are not required for fire protection, sprinkler piping, waste, vent, gas, and downspout piping HANGER RODS A. Provide steel hanger rods, appropriately threaded. Provide connection points with jamb nuts or double nuts DUCT HANGERS AND SUPPORTS A. Per SMACNA Standards. B. Provide galvanized steel angles, channels, stays, rods, etc., for duct support and reinforcement. Do not use raw steel FLASHING A. Steel Flashing: 26 gauge galvanized steel. B. Lead Flashing: 4 lb/sq ft sheet lead for waterproofing; 1 lb/sq ft sheet lead for soundproofing. C. Safes: 5 lb/sq ft sheet lead or 8 mil thick neoprene. D. Caps: Steel, 22 gauge minimum, 16 gauge at fire-resistant structures SLEEVES A. Sleeves for Pipes Passing Through Nonrated Walls and Floors: Schedule 40 black steel pipe. For waterproof sleeves, use Thunderline Link-Seal or Calpico Sealing Linx. B. Sleeves for Pipes Passing Through Beams, Walls, and Footings: Schedule 40 black steel pipe or 20 gauge galvanized steel.

Insulated pipes passing through fire-rated walls and floors shall be provided with insulation through the penetration which shall consist of a 360 degree waterproofed calcium silicate insert sized to extend a minimum of 1" beyond the wall or floor penetration. The insert shall be the same thickness as the pipe covering it adjoins. Sleeves shall be the same thickness as the pipe covering it adjoins. Sleeves shall have the same fire rating as the construction in which they are installed. Sleeves shall be Pipe Shields, Inc. for bare pipe, Model F-3000 for walls, F-6000 for floors, F-2000 and F-5000 for insulated chilled water, and F-1000 and F-4000 for all other insulated lines. D. Open voids and cavities occurring in pipe sleeves passing through rated walls and floors shall be completely sealed with UL classified Dow Corning Fire Stop Sealant #2000 installed in strict accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. E. Sleeves for Ducts: Form with galvanized steel. F. Size sleeves large enough to allow for movement due to expansion and to provide for continuous insulation SEISMIC EXPANSION COMPENSATORS A. Compensators for Water Piping 3" and Larger: Hyspan Series 1500 Universal with flanged ends, tie rods, and 321 stainless steel laminated bellows. B. Compensators for Piping 2-1/2" and Smaller: Hyspan 321 stainless steel braided hose. Provide Series 4505 with threaded ends for natural gas; Series 4510 with sweat ends for domestic cold, hot, and hot water return. C. Provide units suitable for minimum 150 psi at 400 degrees F. D. Units shall be manufactured and installed in accordance with EJMA recommendations and shall provide for multiple plane movement for seismic isolation ROOF CURBS A. Provide prefabricated curbs for roof mounted equipment specified in subsequent sections of Division 15 and for ductwork penetrating roof. Curbs shall be as specified in Section "Roof Specialties and Accessories."
6 PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 INSERTS AND EXPANSION SHIELDS A. Use inserts for suspending hangers from reinforced concrete slabs and sides of reinforced concrete beams wherever practicable. B. Set inserts in position in advance of concrete work. Provide reinforcement rod in concrete for inserts carrying pipe over 4" in diameter or ducts over 60" wide. C. Where concrete slabs form finished ceiling, finish inserts flush with slab surface D. Locate expansion shields in concrete beams with a minimum of 6" above bottom of beam. E. Do not use power-driven fasteners or friction spring-type clips PIPE HANGERS AND SUPPORTS A. Support horizontal steel and copper piping as follows: Hanger Rod Nominal Pipe Support Diameter Size (inches) Spacing (feet) (inches) 1/2 to 1-1/4 6 3/8 1-1/2 to /8 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 12 1/2 4 & /8 6 to /8 B. Install hangers to provide minimum 1/2" clear space between finished covering and adjacent work. C. Support piping at each change in direction, at ends of branches, at base and top of risers, drops, and wherever necessary to prevent sag, bending, or vibration, in addition to the above listed hanger spacing. D. Use hangers which are vertically adjustable 1-1/2" minimum after piping is erected.
7 E. Support horizontal soil pipe near each joint, with 5'-0" maximum spacing between hangers and with no more than two joints occurring between any two hangers. F. Support vertical piping at every other floor. Support vertical soil pipe at each floor at joint. G. Where several pipes can be installed in parallel and at same elevation, provide multiple or trapeze hangers. H. Where practical, support riser piping independently of connected horizontal piping. I. Support nonmetallic piping with a sufficient number of hangers to prevent sagging and misalignment DUCT HANGERS AND SUPPORTS A. Duct hangers, supports, and installation per SMACNA Standards. B. Specific details shown on Drawings take precedence over SMACNA requirements EQUIPMENT BASES AND SUPPORTS A. Provide 6" minimum thickness reinforced concrete housekeeping bases poured directly on structural floor slab for major equipment including air cooled condensing units. Extend pads a minimum of 6" beyond machinery bedplates. Provide templates, anchor bolts, and related accessories for mounting and anchoring equipment. B. Construct supports of structural steel members or steel pipe and fittings. Brace and fasten with flanges bolted to structure. C. Stiff leg (stanchion) support of piping shall not interfere with the free operation of vibration isolation systems PAINTING A. Paint exposed steel hangers and supports. Hangers and supports located in crawl spaces, pipes shafts and suspended ceiling spaces are not considered exposed. Refer to Section "Painting."
8 3.06 FLASHING A. Flash and counterflash where mechanical equipment passes through weather or waterproofed walls, floors, and roofs. B. Flash vent and soil pipes with 24" by 24" sheet lead, minimum 8" above roof. Counterflash with caulked stack flashing sleeve, Zurn Z-196. C. Flash floor drains over finished areas and roof drains with lead, 10" clear on sides, minimum 36" by 36" sheet size. Fasten flashing to drain with clamping device. D. Provide 8" minimum height curbs for roof mounted mechanical equipment. Flash and counterflash with galvanized steel, soldered and waterproofed SLEEVES A. Set sleeves in position in advance of concrete work. Provide suitable reinforcing around sleeves. B. Where piping or ductwork passes through floor, ceiling, or wall, close off space between pipe or duct and construction with noncombustible insulation. Provide tight-fitting metal caps on both sides and caulk. C. Install chrome-plated escutcheons where piping passes through finished surfaces. D. Provide pipe sleeves for all mechanical piping except rain leaders, sanitary waste, and vents. E. Adequately sleeve pipe passing through concrete or masonry walls or concrete slabs to receive both pipe and insulation pertaining thereto. Linx. F. Waterproof sleeves shall be Thunderline Link-Seal or Calpico Sealing G. Seal pipes passing through walls or slabs. Use mastic or oakum seal in the annular space in non-fire-rated walls. H. Insulated pipe shall be insulated in sleeves, sealed, and pointed as above. I. Install sleeves on pipes as they are being hung, ready for proper placement in wall as wall is being constructed.
9 J. Where sleeves have been inadvertently omitted in concrete floors, provide requisite pipe opening by using properly sized diamond core drills. Areas located below drilling operations shall be protected from possible damage EXPANSION COMPENSATORS A. Provide expansion compensators where piping crosses new construction expansion joints. B. Provide flexible duct connections at the same points of cross-over specified for piping. Refer to Section **END OF SECTION**
