A nominal reference time period, T, of 5 minutes applies for plant noise, as this is consistent with the night-time reference time period used in BS The boundary noise limits are free-field levels, derived from consideration of the prevailing free-field background noise on site during the night period, with an allowance of 5 db for the summation of a number of tenancies plant operating simultaneously. An increase of approximately 3 db can be expected, and is acceptable, for positions 1m in front of an elevation. Emergency equipment should not be tested at night.

2 Noise Emission Limits Generally These limits apply to noise from the internal activities only (e.g. amplified music). Plant noise limits are specified separately. N/A 50 Table 1: Entertainment Activity Noise Emission Limited The noise limits are free-field levels, derived from consideration of the prevailing free-field background noise on site during the night period, with an allowance of 3 db for the summation of a number of tenancies operating simultaneously. An increase of approximately 3 db can be expected, and is acceptable, for positions 1 m in front of an elevation (except in the case of measurements made 1 m from the façade of the unit emitting noise where a higher noise level is acceptable, as set out in Table 1). A nominal reference time period, T, of 15 minutes applies for amplified music. (Note: the Environmental Health Officer might adopt a reference time period of 5 minutes if carrying out a survey at night according to BS 4142). The music level has to be contained as such, so the level does not spread out of the unit. Speakers need to be kept inside the unit, not too close to the door.

3 Sound Attenuation Intermediate Floor C Structural slab having a surface mass of not less than 370 kg/m², topped by a floating screed of 75mm concrete, on a 30mm thick resilient layer. Walls External (i.e. not separating internal uses). C 140mm solid lignacite blockwork (or similar) to achieve a laid weight of 278 kg/m² well sealed. Any cladding. Any internal lining. TENANT UPGRADE IN ADDITION TO LANDLORD C Already Base landlord construction. Already Base landlord construction. Suspended ceiling to area below leased area comprising a framework, spanning between structural members, supporting two layers of 15mm wall board (or 2 x 12mm Soundblock). Cavity between the upper surface of the plasterboard and underside of concrete slab of not less than 250mm. 100mm mineral floor (density not less than 30 kg/m³) to be installed in the cavity. All services passing through the ceiling to be flanged with an airtight seal. Internal independent wall lining, comprising two layers of 15mm wallboard (or 2 x 12mm Soundblock) on independent studwork to create a cavity of not less than 100mm between the internal face of the plasterboard and the face of the blockwork wall. 50mm mineral fibre (density at least 30 kg/m³ in the cavity).

4 TENANT UPGRADE IN ADDITION TO LANDLORD C Walls Internal (i.e. separating internal use) B 140mm lignacite blockwork (or similar) to achieve a laid weight of 278 kg/m² well sealed. Any cladding. Any internal lining. In addition to Category B construct to Category C tenant s side of the party wall an Internal independent wall lining, comprising two layers of 15mm wallboard (or 2 x 12mm Soundblock) on independent studwork to create a cavity of not less than 100mm between the internal face of the plasterboard and the face of the blockwork wall. 50mm mineral fibre (density at least 30 kg/m³ in the cavity). No upgrade from Cat. B required for service corridor walls or structure spanning more than the leased area, except where the noise source is immediately adjacent the landlord construction i.e. flanking transmissions. In addition to Category C, construct to the Category D Tenant s side of the party wall; a further internal independent wall lining comprising two layers of 15mm wall board (or 2 x 12mm Soundblock) on independent studwork to create a cavity of not less than 200mm between the internal face of the plasterboard and the external face of the Category C plasterboard. 50mm mineral fibre (density of at least 30 kg/m³) in the cavity.

5 TENANT UPGRADE IN ADDITION TO LANDLORD C Walls Internal (Retail) B Dry wall partitioning comprising metal stud (70mm up to 4.8 m high or 146mm over 4.8 m high). Two layers 12.5mm Fire line board each face with one layer of Expamet flattened expanded steel mesh ref 2073F sandwiched between Fire line boards, to one face of the partition only. 25mm mineral fibre in cavity (density not less than 10 kg/m 3 ). In addition constructed on the Category C Tenant s side. Internal independent wall lining, comprising two layers of 15mm wallboard (or 2 x 12mm Soundblock) on independent studwork to create a cavity of not less than 100mm between the internal face of the plasterboard and the face of the plasterboard wall. 50mm mineral fibre (density at least 30 kg/m³ in the cavity). Not practical to upgrade to this category. Walls Internal (Restaurant) C Dry wall partition comprising twin stud wall (e.g. Gyproc Twin frame high performance wall) creating a cavity between lining nominally 250mm wide. 100mm gypglass 1200mineral fibre between frames (density not less than 10 kg/m³) two layers of 15mm fire line board each side. One face of the partition to have one layer of Expamet flattened steel mesh ref 2073F sandwiched between the fire line boards. Joints and perimeter joints well sealed. Already base Landlord construction. Not practicable to upgrade to this category.

6 TENANT UPGRADE IN ADDITION TO LANDLORD C Doors B Solid core minimum 44mm thick, part glazed with 6mm glass. Fitted with seals on all four sides of each door leaf and hung to achieve a reasonably tight fit when closed. Doors left closed during use of the building. All entrances/exits shall be lobbied internally with a separating door. Door specification as Category B doors. The doors shall be closed during use of the building. In addition to the lobby for Category C doors, the doors together with their associated frames and perimeter seals should achieve an apparent weighted sound reduction index Rw (ref BS 2750 and BS EN ISO 717-1) of not less than 30 db. The doors shall be closed during use of the building. Windows and Shop Fronts B Single (6mm) or double glazing (4/12/4mm) well sealed. Glazing upgraded to achieve a weighted sound reduction index Rw of 40 db, i.e. 10mm float glass/12mm cavity/6.4mm pub laminate. Infill all window openings with 140mm solid lignacite blockwork (or similar) to achieve a laid weight of 278 kg/m² well sealed. Any cladding (original window may be retained externally). Ceiling See intermediate floor.

7 TENANT UPGRADE IN ADDITION TO LANDLORD C Roofing B Roof finish (i.e. Sarnafill or sheet cladding) on 100mm insulation on profiled liner tray. Well sealed. In addition to category B, a ceiling suspended on metal straps from the structure a minimum of 240mm below the liner tray. Ceiling being one layer of 12mm plasterboard with 50mm mineral fibre (density at least 30 kg/m³) in the cavity. All penetrations shall be flanged with an airtight seal. In addition to the Category C a further suspended ceiling constructed below comprising two layers of 15mm wallboard (or 2 x 12mm Soundblock). Cavity between the upper surface of the plasterboard and underside of the upper sound insulating lining to be not less than 500mm. 100mm mineral fibre (density not less than 30 kg/m³) to be installed in the cavity. Or, when Category C ceiling not already constructed the ceiling construction beneath the liner tray shall comprise; Ceiling supported on a framework supported from the structure. The ceiling being 3 layers of 15mm wall board (or 3 x 12mm Soundblock). Cavity between the upper surface of the plasterboard and the underside of the metal liner tray of not less than 600mm. 100mm mineral fibre (density not less than 30 kg/m³) to be installed in the cavity.
