1 US Pool Lift Model #114 (Independence) Installation Guide This manual has been provided to assist with lift installation. For further assistance please contact your authorized US Pool Lift dealer. Toll Free at (855) Before installing the model #114 Pool Lift it is necessary to select the correct location for the mounting Base. The model Pool Lift can be installed in a wide variety of locations, but the owner and installer should be aware of the regulations set forth by the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) with concern to lift installations. Fig. 1 below shows an example of an ADA compliant installation, which incorporates the following ADA rules in order to be compliant. ADA Code Requirements Fig Pool Lift Location. Pool lifts shall be located where the water level does not exceed 48 inches (1220 mm). EXCEPTIONS: 1. Where the entire pool depth is greater than 48 inches (1220 mm), compliance with shall not be required. 2. Where multiple pool lift locations are provided, no more than one pool lift shall be required to be located in an area where the water level is 48 inches (1220 mm) maximum Seat Location. In the raised position, the centerline of the seat shall be located over the deck and 16 inches (405 mm) 1

2 minimum from the edge of the pool. The deck surface between the centerline of the seat and the pool edge shall have a slope not steeper than 1:48. (See figure 1) Clear Deck Space. On the side of the seat opposite the water, a clear deck space shall be provided parallel with the seat. The space shall be 36 inches (915 mm) wide minimum and shall extend forward 48 inches (1220 mm) minimum from a line located 12 inches (305 mm) behind the rear edge of the seat. The clear deck space shall have a slope not steeper than 1:48. (See figure 1) Seat Height. The height of the lift seat shall be designed to allow a stop at 16 inches (405 mm) minimum to 19 inches (485 mm) maximum measured from the deck to the top of the seat surface when in the raised (load) position. 3 MINIMUM DECK REQUIREMENTS: ** Minimum concrete slab should be at least 60 x 42 x 4 thick, reinforced with #4 rebar with 3000 PSI strength concrete. Safety Glasses / Dust Mask For installation into an Existing Concrete Deck, follow guidelines. Existing Concrete Slab Mounting Deck 1. To determine the area to install the lift, see the ADA guidelines, (See Figure 1) 2. The pool deck shall be verified to meet the minimum requirements; Minimum concrete slab should be at least 60 x 42 x 4 thick, reinforced with #4 rebar with 3000 PSI strength concrete. If your pool deck does not meet these requirements, (See Figure.2), then the pool deck needs to be cut and replaced with a new slab that meets requirements. The new slab shall be reinforced; #4 rebar shall be drilled and epoxied with Simpson SET epoxy or equivalent for installation with minimum 4 embedment into remaining slab. See epoxy guideline instructions from manufacturer. 3. Check your local Electrical Code for proper Bonding. It may be necessary to Bond the mounting base to the pool reinforcement grid. 4. Once concrete has cured to minimum 75%, (See Figure 3) to determine the proper location to install the lift. Make sure the lift meets the required ADA distance and holes drilled are a minimum 10 ½ from pool edge. 5. Prior to drilling the holes for mounting the base onto the deck, you should perform a test by sliding the lift base back from the minimum ADA required distance of 16 measured from the centerline of the seat to the edge of pool (See Figure 1). Please be aware that the pool lift will not be anchored, therefore, you will need to secure the lift by applying weight so that the lift does not fall over or cause bodily harm. Once you have the lift safely secured, take the hand controller and complete a full cycle of the lift into pool to meet the ADA required seat depth of 18 below the water level. This will allow you to determine the proper location of the base plate to maximize the 3

4 lifts clearance. Because of the varied types, heights and widths of the riser / coping / beam, the Model #114 will not be the correct lift for every pool and spa. If you do not have clearance over the riser/coping/beam, contact US Pool Lifts, Inc. 6. Check that the base is parallel with pool wall and lift is positioned correctly. Anchors shall be installed a minimum of 4 or greater from expansion joints. 7. Drill the holes with a 5/8 masonry drill bit and hammer drill. Drill (4) holes straight and square to the deck, drill holes 2 deep, remove dust from holes and surrounding area. 8. Install the (4) ½ HDI 303 Stainless Steel Drop in Anchors (supplied), install anchors using proper setting tool HST ½ setting tool for HDI Anchors (not supplied), setting tool to be driven into anchor until setting tool shoulder meets top of anchor, following installation requirements per manufacturers specifications. Then set base over anchors, then install all (4) ½ -13 x 1 Stainless Steel (Type 18-8) bolts (supplied). Tighten bolts to specifications (22 ft-lb maximum tightening torque). FIG. 2 4
