1 Summary Specification Re-Skinning Over Two Existing Roofs The Top Roof Being a Totally Adhered Single Ply Over a Built-Up-Roof On A Poured-in-Place Concrete Deck Using the Existing Angle Change Terminations as Shear Skirts Wind Rider* Dependent on Existing Feb. 20, Clean the existing totally adhered or mechanically attached roof membrane: TPO, EPDM, Hyplon, and PVC roof membrane of dirt and debris with a power washer. [for installing a new 2001 Co. compatible Re-Skinning membrane] 2. Refasten deteriorated bowing or cupping existing roofing membrane and insulation: If it can not be refastened, remove and replace it with equal height new insulation and ½ Weighted Cover Board, such as Dens Deck or equal to the same height as original roof surface. Remove backing out fasteners and cover the hole with an offset four inch (4 ) diaphragm plate and fastener. 3. Parapet Wall, Perimeter Edge, and Roof Penetration Angle Change Terminations: If the existing angle change terminations and flashings are intact, they can be left in place and the new Re-Skinning membrane can be seamed directly to the compatible existing. 4. If Existing Angle Change Terminations Are Defective: Remove existing deteriorated angle change terminations and bridging flashings. 5. Nailors: Replace wherever necessary. 6. Install a 2001 Co. new angle change air seal termination: When necessary on top of the existing according to 2001 Co. details and specifications in compliance with the ASCE-7-10 Building Code Wind Design Speed for the geographical location of the building and surrounding terrain. *2001 Co. Wind Riders require 2001 co. Design review and approval for specific MPH Wind Rider on every building. Page 1 of 7
2 7. Maintain Existing Deck and Wall Flashing Air Seals: when replacing deteriorated nailers and angle change terminations. 8. Use The Existing Intact Angle Change Termination As A Shear Skirt: Clean the existing membrane before the angle change in the following manner: 1. Clean the existing membrane horizontal angle change surface with Spick & Span Sodium Phosphate and water three feet (3 ) or more out from the termination. 2. Scrubbing the surface with synthetic scrub pad (Doodle Bug) to remove surface dirt. 3. Vacuum up dirty water with a shop vacuum. 4. Finally, clean surface with Windex glass cleaner and clean rags to accept a 6 inseam EPDM double sided tape (Zip Tape) one at the angle change and one two or more feet into the roof interior. 5. Install 2001 co. Talc Eater Seam Primer with a synthetic scrub pad (Doodle Bug) scrubbed into the existing membrane surface, where the two 6 Zip Tape seams are to be installed. 9. Install two (2) six inch inseam zip tape strips one 3 (three feet) our more out from the existing angle change on the horizontal surface: If the existing roof was a 2001 Co. Wind Vented Roof Assembly, install the six inch (6 ) inseam tape in front of the Equalizer Valves. 10. Optional Permeation of the Existing Wet Roofs For a Wind Vented Self Drying Rider : The existing two roof substrates can be permeated down to the poured-in-place concrete deck for self-drying through the 2001 Co. Equalizer Valves. Call 2001 Co. for specific self-drying design for this building. Permeation will require a separator layer between old and new roof membrane. 11. Loose Lay 45mil. minimum thickness C-EPDM or TPO Waterproofing Membrane over the existing roof assembly. If 2001 Co. PVC membrane is used, a slip sheet or fleece backed PVC is required to stop PVC plastizer migration into the old roof membrane. Page 2 of 7
3 12. Attach a New 2001 Co. Field Membrane to perimeter field of roof six inch (6 ) Zip Tape Strip: and totally adhere the field membrane over the remainder of existing membrane (now a Shear Skirt) and attach it to the angle change six inches (6 ) inseam tape. If heat welded membrane is used weld it to the compatible thermoplastic membrane. Note: The field membrane can be used as a self flashing up the penetration wall on top of the existing membrane and the metal counter flashing and finish terminated with a Termination Bar. Also seam tape can be used to attach the base flashing membrane to the face of the vertical wall and the counter flashing metal face instead of bonding adhesive. 13. A finish term bar is installed on top of vertical wall base flashings: This is done when the field membrane is used as a self wall flashing. 14. Install 2001 Co. Wind Venting Equalizer Valves : For wind uplift transfer and continual drying of the wet roof substrate to 2001 Company s Equalizer Valve Placement diagram. If the existing roof is a 2001 Co. Wind Vented roof, reuse the existing Equalizer Valves. 15. Finish Flash perimeters and penetrations to 2001 Co. details in future maintenance and repair purchase orders by the building owner. These flashings and Air Seal Terminations will be added to the 2001 Co. Repair and Maintenance Re-Skinning Warranty Upgrade when completed. 16. Provide roof accessories to building owner s requests: Walk-way pads, equipment sleepers, oil drip pans, safety equipment, and other roof top equipment. Itemize these accessory extra costs for the building owner in the pricing section. 17. Optional deteriorated masonry parapet wall waterproofing with a 2001 Co. Wind Vented Self drying Upper Parapet Wall Membrane: See attached option and pricing. Page 3 of 7
4 Option Wind Vented Self-Dying Upper Parapet Wall Membrane Waterproofing Install A self-drying 2001 Co. Wind Vented reinforced upper parapet wall and cap membrane flashing: This will go above the base flashing to 2001 Co. details in the following manner: 1. Clean the wall of all loose and spaulling brick masonry organic moss, etc. 2. Install term bar tape under front and back sides of the parapet cap: At 4 (four foot) increments vertically on the parapet wall. 3. Install 4 (four inch) EPDM in seam tape on the top of the base flashing or counter flashing metal: For 7 6 (seven foot, six inch) increments with a 6 (six inch) gap for weeping water egress and air exchange intake along the top of the base flashing. 4. Hang the upper parapet wall reinforced membrane flashing loose: over parapet and seam tape bottom edge to base flashing with the 6 (six inch) weep gap between the 7 6 adhered strips. 5. Pull the loose flashing membrane back onto the roof surface: Pull the release paper strips of the term bar tape strips under the cap and on the vertical four feet (4 ) on center wall strips. Note: if parapet wall is stud wall construction, install vertical term bar screws into the studs. 6. Term bar the flashing membrane under the existing cap edge on the roof side. 7. Totally Adhere the remainder of the wall flashing membrane to the top of the cap and down the parapet cap face. 8. Term bar the parapet wall membrane on the exterior side under the cap: Affix a 2001 Co. Termination Bar into the middle of the top brick to limit spalling. Note: Black term bar makes a beautiful exterior aesthetic finish. 9. Install smile face vent in vertical wall top according to the 2001 Co. design. 10. Install vertical term bars 4 (four feet) on center over pre-installed term bar tape. Note: Leave three inch (3 ) space on top and bottom of vertical termbars for air movement between four feet (4 ) on center vertical parapet wall termination bars. Page 4 of 7
