1 SECONDARY CONTAINMENT COATING SPECIFICATION 1.0 GENERAL PROVISIONS Applicable to the following areas: Typical concrete secondary containment structure with occasional exposure acidic and alkaline compounds as indicated in Spirit 100 Line (attached) and Spirit 200 Line (attached). Product is suitable for 72-hour secondary containment purposes for these chemicals. The product will not be resistant to prolonged contact with concentrated nitric acid (greater than 10%) for periods of 72 hours. Discoloration of the product may occur with contact to some of the chemicals, but this is not necessarily indicative of film integrity. Prolonged contact with concentrated acids, oxidizers, or will result in degradation of the film. The product will provide chemical resistance that is generally the same as the Flakeline 2000 product currently installed. Specific application instructions Please refer to attached product data sheets for specific application instructions including mixing instructions, curing times, and environmental limitations.

2 2.0 SURFACE PREPARATION General Surface Preparation Detect and remove areas of disbonding, deteriorated, or otherwise faulty lining until the lining exhibits good adhesion with no chemical degredation of the lining or underlying concrete. Using a power grinder (angle grinder with abrasive disc or other), taper abrade the tightly adhering lining at the perimeter of the repair area 2-5 inches from the substrate. Power wash the entire containment area to remove chemical contaminants. A hot water wash is highly recommended. Follow the initial wash by cleaning with a Prep 88 solution diluted at 3 parts clean water to 1 part concentrate. Briefly scrub as needed using a nylon brush with long handle to work into any surface residues. Within minutes, power wash the floor to thoroughly remove the Prep 88 cleaner. Do not allow Prep 88 to dry on the floor. Power wash directly into concrete areas where the previously lining had failed. Ensure the surface ph is neutral ( ) and completely dry prior to continuing. Surface Preparation overcoating existing lining See general surface preparation steps. Uniformly and thoroughly abrade the existing to using power sanding (floor sander/ orbital sanders) with 80-grit sandpaper to ensure a uniform and complete discoloration / de-glossing of the coating. Alternately, sweep blast with a medium fine grit to abrade the surface. Using a grinder, roughen the surface of polymer concrete repair surfaces (after sufficient curing) to obtain a surface roughness of 60 grit or coarser. Vacuum surfaces to completely remove particulate residue. Lightly solvent wipe with

3 Amercoat 12 cleaner prior to coating application. Spot prime polymer concrete surfaces with Amerlock Sealer. Surface Preparation concrete / deteriorated lining patch See general surface preparation steps. Concrete should be free of any chemical contamination, oils, grease, etc Prepare concrete by power tool grinding to achieve a uniform surface roughness equivalent to 60-grit sandpaper or coarser and in accordance with ICRA Replica Standards CSP 3-5. Surface should be sound with no exposed aggregate, free of sub-surface voids, and dust free. Surface should be dust free at the time of coating application. Blow down or vacuum as necessary to achieve. Joints should be abrasive blasted and subsequently blown with compressed air to remove all loose particulate. Surface Preparation exposed steel See general surface preparation steps. Abrasive blast using an angular abrasive to achieve an SSPC SP-10 condition with a mil anchor profile. Prime pitted steel with Amerlock Sealer. Fill pits as needed with Amercoat 114A epoxy filler.

4 3.0 COATING APPLICATION Polymer Concrete Repair / re-form deteriorated / broken concrete surfaces using an epoxy concrete repair compound such as Polyspec Res Rok 157 or equivalent. Apply in accordance with manufacturer s instructions. Primer Amerlock Sealer should be applied to severely pitted steel, exposed concrete, and prepared polymer concrete surfaces. Apply 1 coat of Amerlock Sealer at approximately 1-2 mils to wick into the concrete / pitted steel. Overlap the previously abraded / tapered lining at the perimeter of the repair area. Amerlock Sealer may be applied via roller or airless spray equipment. Reinforced Lining Patch Pre-cut 1.5 ounce fiberglass mat to fit the repair area. Pour and roll (or spray larger areas) Novaguard 840 at mils wet film thickness. After 30 minutes, lay in the glass mat working in one direction. Back roll using a short nap or napless roller to work the mat into the epoxy.

5 Joint Treatment (where applicable) Install either an acid resistant elastomeric backer rod or (preferably) a pre-formed FRP joint all functional floor joints. Apply PPG Rapid Seal 650 polysulfide joint sealant or equivalent to seal all floor joints. Sealant should be applied flush with the coated floor surface. When set, apply bond breaker tape to the full width of the joint. Over-coating System Inspect the repair patch areas and sand to remove any bubbling if required. With 7 days of the Amerlock Sealer application, apply 1 coat of Novaguard 840 at mils to all surfaces. Novaguard 840 is to be applied directly to the prepared surfaces of the existing lining. Novaguard 840 is applied with standard 64:1 ratio airless spray equipment. 4.0 FINAL CURING Allow system to cure with good ventilation (approximately 6 air turnovers per hour) for the following schedule prior to sustained chemical contact: 50 o F 60 o F 70 o F 80 o F 14 days 10 days 7 days 5 days
