SIGNAGE The Hang-On Platform install requires signage to be considered compliant and also for marketing purposes. Buildsafe takes great pride in the products we offer which is why all installations must have a Buildsafe sign installed. We want the world to know who we are and what we do. Hang-On Platform installation requires the following signs to be displayed; Access Point signs must be attached to the frame of the building in front of the Access Point. Light Duty Working Platform sign must be attached to Handrail directly at the point of access. Scaffold Incomplete Sign must be attached when the Hang-On Platform is deemed incomplete and dangerous to use. Elevator Acess Gate Sign must be attached next to a material access point. Large Buildsafe Sign is to be hung in the most visible location. 6
FIXING DETAIL / Connection 4. Has the system been erected within the Electrical No Go Zone for power lines? Hanger installed internal (of wall): Minimum 4 in foot, 1 in head Hanger installed external (of wall): Minimum 1 in foot, 2 in hook over top plate. The Hook of the Uni-Head retracted and fixed with 2 x 50mm screws into the top plate. Foot is secured in place with 2 x 50mm screws into the floor and 2 x 50mm into the bottom plate. Uni Head is secured to the frame by fixing 2 x 50mm screws into the top plate. There will be 55mm of the lower slot showing if the Pin is bearing at the bottom of the slot above. Foot is secured in place with 2 x 50mm screws into the floor and 2 x 50mm into the bottom plate. 7
FIXING DETAIL / Connection 6. Are all pins present in the knuckles? (Bottom, Middle and Top) Below is a photo showing the Knuckle installed to the Standard supporting the Transom. The Knuckle must have 3 security Pins installed, they are circled below in white. The Pins are critical to the safety of the Hang-on System and ensure the Hanger set up is structural. Note: There is a 4th pin once the transom is installed. 8
platform 7. Is there a safe access to the working platform for all trades? Look to identify safe and unobstructed access point for tradeperson to get on to of off the platform. 8. Is the maximum spacing between internal rail and the external face of the structure less than 225mm? Less than 225mm. 9
platform 9. Is the maximum span of standards / transoms less than 3.6m? 3.6 m max 10
platform 10. Are the planks at the right height below the roof / gutter line for its intended use and pitch of roof? ( 26 = 1000mm, >26 <35 = 300mm) Is the rail installed at the correct height for the application? (min 900mm above projected roof line). 900mm min to the top rail where that rail is horizontally less than 1m from the roof edge (d) (i) Catch Platform for less than 26 0 Posts may be vertical or incline away from roof as illustrated to a maximum angle of 26 0 Intersection of the projected roofline & a line vertically below the centre of the top rail 100mm Max (k) The platform deck shall have a clear minimumidth of 450mm - 2 plank (675mm planks in QLD. No obstructions are permitted above the platform serface (a) (b) Catch Platform for greater than 26 (c) Distance between platform and bottom edge of bottom rail must be no less than 150mm & no greater than 275mm Spread loads between two wall studs and/or bottom plate For a roof pitch not greater than 26 0,where it is intended to locate a platform below the roof edge. The platform shall be located at a distance not greater 1m (d) Distance from cladding to platorm less than or equal to 225mm (g) Distance between roof line & top rail no less than 900mm & no greater than 1100mm (h) (i) Bottom Rails or toeboard as appropriate (c) Platform Deck (a) (b) 450mm nominal max. Between all rails. (j) Distance between platform and bottom rail must be no less than 150mm and no greater than 275mm (c) For a roof pitch greater than 0 26, the platform must be no greater than 300mm below the roof edge (e) Distance from cladding & platform less than or equal to 225mm (g) 11
platform 11. Is the maximum distance of planks cantilevered to a non-returning corner less than 1150mm? 12. Is the maximum span of the supporting lower planks on a cantilevered corner less than 1450mm? Cantilever Returning Corner The maximum combined length of "B" & "A" is 2900 mm. ("A"cannot exceed 1450 mm) 2900mm All cantilevered Planks must be supported over 2 Transoms and nonreturning spans can span 1150mm max. Maximum cantilever 1450 mm = Minimum. "Back Span" 2900 mm. The "Back Span" must be a Minimum of 2 x the cantilever. If the cantilever of "A" is reduced to 900mm The allowable maximum cantilever of "B" would be 2000 mm. "A" A 1450mm Max Cantilever Canterliver "A" Distance from Transom to outside line or returning Planks The maximum span for the supporting (Lower Planks) is 1450 mm. 2125mm "B" B 1450mm Max Cantilever Canterliver 250mm minimum Overhang The maximum span for the supported (Upper Planks) is 1450 mm "B" Distance from Transom to inside line or returning Planks. 250mm minimum Overhang In the case of a 3 Plank system (675 mm wide) the maximum cantilever for the supported Planks is 1450 mm mm = 2125 mm. 12
platform 13. Have all plank tabs been tightened so the planks are secure and sitting flush? Hang-On System walk way is constructed out of aluminum planks, the Planks are supported by the transom and secured using Plank Tabs and Plank Locks as shown below. High setting - Two Planks. Low setting - One Plank. Plank Tab is tight and secured. Plank Lock needs to be installed on every 2nd trasom from start of every run. 13
platform 14. Are all step ups less than 500mm? If not, has a stop end been installed to eliminate the fall hazard? All step ups and downs in the platform height must be no greater than 500mm, if greater than 500mm there needs to be a stop end barrier to prevent a fall from height. 15. Have back braces been used on this install, if so have the back brace floor plates been secured with two L-pins? The Back Brace Setup is unique to Buildsafe in that it enables the Hanger to have no structural bearing on the wall and doesn t require the Floor Plate to be secured to the floor joists. Minimum Distance of 2.0m between the wall frame and the Floor Plate. Uni Head is not resting against the top plate. approx 5-10mm. Plate Tie with a Hanger less than 500mm away. Plate Ties are to be installed on all corners that are internal to the house. Foot Plate secured and attached the bottom hook of the Back Brace. 14
rail 16. Are all cams on Supa and corner posts locked down? 17. Are rail joiners utilised on all internal and external corners of internal rail and on straight runs with an overlap is greater than 500mm? 18. Is the rail straight and plumb throughout the installation? Rail Joiner Rail runs straight and is plumb Rail is secured into the Supa Post Rail Supports by the Cam locking system. Unlocked Locked 19. If Hang-On runs into a scaffold system, is the rail joined to the scaffolding? The system needs to be tied into the scaffold if there is a prexisting scaffold system, this ensures that risks such as falling from height are eliminated, the system will be tied in at the rail section and the planks will run into the prexisting scaffold decks. 20. Are rail stop ends present at the end of a straight run of platform? Where the system is installed without returning corners and is not tied into a prexisting scaffold installation a stop end needs to be installed. 21. Is there a safe access and egress point to the Hang-On system? The system needs to have clear and unobstructed access on and off the platform from tools, materials and rubbish, this must be maintained for the duration of the hire period of the system. 15
Summary Use the following summary point as a guide when conducting the inspection: There is a Light Duty Platform sign attached at the first access bay on the Hang-On system.
