1 ALUMINUM STOREFRONT WINDOW & DOOR FRAMING A. Scope This section covers furnishing and installing all aluminum doors, door frames, and aluminum store front systems and related hardware as shown on the drawings and/or as required for the work specified. 1. Shop Drawings: This Contractor shall furnish shop drawings for approval showing dimensions, hardware, etc. All openings, door sizes and frame depths shall be verified in the field by Contractor before fabrication. 2. Submittals: a. Product Data: For each product specified. Include details of construction relative, to materials, dimensions of individual components, profiles, and finishes. b. Shop Drawings: For entrance and storefront systems. Show details of fabrication and installation, including plans, elevations, sections, details of components, provisions for expansion and contraction, and attachments to other work. c. Samples for Verification: Of each type of exposed finish required in manufacturer's standard sizes. Where finishes involve normal color and texture variations, include sample sets showing the full range of variations expected. 3. Reinforcement: Reinforce and/or modify framing system as required to accept door hardware, accessories, operators, security, etc. 4. Related Work: See Section GLAZING for complete material specification. 5. Air Infiltration: Provide entrance and storefront systems with permanent resistance to air leakage through fixed glazing and frame areas of less then 0.06 cfm/sq.ft. of fixed wall area when tested according to ASTM E283 at a static-air-pressure difference of 6.24 Ibf/sq.ft. 6. Average Thermal Conductance: Provide storefront systems with average U-values of not more than 0.44 Btu/sq.ft. by height by degree F when tested according to AAMA Condensation Resistance: Provide storefront systems with condensation resistance factor (CRF) of not less than 66 when tested according to AAMA B. Materials All materials specified under this section shall be as manufactured by Tubelite, Kawneer or Architect approved equal. For convenience, U.S. Aluminum model numbers have been used to indicate style and quality. 1. Doors: Doors shall be #500 wide style complete with pull, pivot hinges, threshold and weatherstripping, all as manufactured and/or supplied by door manufacturer. Verify all hardware requirements prior to installation. 91 /2" bottom rail dimension. Door to receive 1" insulated glazing at exterior doors. Interior door(s) may have 1/4" glazing. 2. Store Front and Window Framing: 2" x 4-1/2" Series IT451 center glazing system with 1" Low E insulated glass and thermal-break. Adapt system for installation at door opening as indicated on the drawings. Include all fasteners, gaskets, hardware, trim, etc., as required for a complete installation. Framing shall allow glazing from the exterior. Provide a hopper operable window with aluminum framed screen with aluminum mesh.
2 Finish: a. General: Comply with NAAMM's "Metal Finishes Manual for Architectural and Metal Products" for recommendations relative to applying and designating finishes. b. Appearance of Finished Work: Variations in appearance of abutting or adjacent pieces is not acceptable. c. Finish designations prefixed by AA conform to the system established by the Aluminum Association for designating aluminum finishes. d. Paint Finish: A fluoropolymer paint coating conforming with requirements of AAMA Color to be white, 4. Door Hardware: Remove and reinstall door operators, cylinders, electric strike, entry system.and air curtain. Provide manufacturer's standard push/pulls, hinges etc. C. Execution 1. Preparation: Openings for glazed aluminum wall systems shall be prepared to the proper size, plumb, square, level, and in the proper location and alignment as shown on the Architect's drawings and the final shop drawings. 2. Installation: a. General: Comply with manufacturer's written instructions for protecting, handling, and installing wall systems. Do not install damaged components. Fit frame joints to produce hairline joints free of burrs and distortion. Rigidly secure non-movement joints. Seal joints watertight. b. Metal Protection: Where aluminum will contact dissimilar metals, protect against galvanic action by painting contact surfaces with primer or by applying sealant or tape recommended by manufacturer for this purpose. Where aluminum will contact concrete or masonry, protect against corrosion by painting contact surfaces with bituminous paint. c. Install components to drain water passing joints and condensation and moisture occurring or migrating within the system to the exterior. d. Set continuous sill members and flashing in a full sealant bed to provide weathertight construction, unless otherwise indicated. Comply with requirements of Section CAULKING AND SEALANTS. e. Install framing components plumb and true in alignment with established lines and grades without warp or rack of framing members. f. Install entrances plumb and true in alignment with established lines and grades without warp or rack. Lubricate operating hardware and other moving parts according to hardware manufacturers' written instructions. 1) Install surface-mounted hardware according to manufacturer's written instructions using concealed fasteners to greatest extent possible.

Glass and Glazing: Construction of double insulating glass units shall have dual perimeter sealants, polyisobutylene and silicone and air space created by one continuous worm edge spacer, without corner keys, and desiccant. Glass shall be as manufactured by Libby-Owens Ford, PPG Industries, Virginia Glass Products or Architect approved equal. Tempered Safety Glass: The quality of glass used in fabricating this product shall meet the requirements of Federal Specifications DD-A-451C and USAS Provide where required by state and local codes. Insulated Glass (Argon-Filled, Low-E): Shall be 1" minimum thick in sizes indicated on the drawings and composed on an inner pane of.125" thick tempered, glazing quality and an outer pane of.125" thick glazing quality, hermetically sealed and separated by an argonfilled, dehydrated air space. Glass shall be clear with soft coat Low-E on #2 surfaces. 1) Center-of-qlass winter U value: Maximum.38. 2) Organic Coating: Solarban 60 soft coat Low E on #2 surface. 3) Seal Durability: Conformance to ASTM E ; visible, permanent IGCC certification label for CBA rating level. h. Install perimeter sealant to comply with requirements of Section JOINT SEALANTS, unless otherwise indicated. i. Erection Tolerances: Install entrance and storefront systems to comply with the following maximum tolerances: 1) Variation from Plane: Limit variation from plane or location shown to 1 /8" in 12'; 1 /4" over total length. 2) Alignment: Where surfaces abut in line, limit offset from true alignment to 1/16". Where surfaces meet at corners, limit offset from true alignment to 1/32". 3) Diagonal Measurements: Limit difference between diagonal measurements to 1 /8". j. Do not cut aluminum frame stop strip when mounting exit devices and closers. 3. Adjusting and Cleaning: A manufacturer's representative will adjust frames, sash, and hardware after installation to ensure smooth and weathertight operation. a. Leave window clean and free of labels and dirt. b. Leave interior and exterior premises clean and free of debris. D. Attic Stock At the completion of the project, provide (2) of each size and type of: screen; sash (with glazing); and hardware to the Owner for future use.
4 ALUMINUM WINDOWS A. Scope This section includes furnishing all labor, materials, tools and equipment necessary for the installation of the aluminum windows, screens, insulated panels, hardware and related components, glass and glazing, as shown on the drawings, as specified herein or as required for a complete job. Note: Contractor responsible for field verifying all dimensions prior to ordering windows. 1. Job Requirements: Furnish aluminum windows with integral thermal break in the frame and sash members. Include all miscellaneous extrusions as required by manufacturer, details, existing conditions and for a complete installation. a. Type: Horizontal Sliding windows. Provide XO, OX, and fixed configurations as shown on the drawings. 2. Shop Drawings: Provide four (4) complete sets of shop drawings including all dimensions, hardware, fastening systems, etc. to Owner for review before proceeding with fabrication. All openings shall be field verified by the Contractor before fabrication. Shop drawings to show details of fabrication and installation, including plans, elevations, sections, details of components, provisions for expansion and contraction, and attachments to other work. Product Data: manufacturer's specifications, test reports from an AAMA-accredited laboratory, and standard details verifying conformance with specifications. Samples: two (2) samples of specified finish for aluminum. 3. Quality Assurance: Furnish visible, permanent IGCC certification labels for the CBA rating level on dual-seal double insulating glass units. Finishes shall meet the requirements of AAMA Manufacturer's Warranties: a. Window: Warrant for ten (10) years against defects in material and workmanship under normal use. b. Paint Finish: Warrantforten (10) years against chipping, peeling, cracking, blistering, fading and chalking. c. Insulating Glass Units: Warrant seal for ten (10) years against visual obstruction resulting from film formation or moisture collection between the internal glass surfaces, excluding that caused by glass breakage or abuse. 5. Delivery, Storage, and Handling: Handle windows and accessories in accordance with AAMA CW- 10. Protect the windows form the elements, construction activities, and other hazards until project completion.
5 Manufacturers The following manufacturers and products have been approved, see SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTIONS TO BIDDERS, paragraph 2, for further instructions: 1. Peerless Windows - Series EnerG Save T-Rex Horizontal (GSL2) and Fixed (G541). 2. Litex Windows - Horizontal Sliders (L500T), and Fixed (L500TFXD). 3. Kawneer Windows - Horizontal Sliders (AA3350 ISOPORT and Fixed). 4. Wojan Windows - Horizontal Sliders (M-950), and Fixed (M-950). Materials 1. Aluminum Windows: a. Aluminum Extrusions: All extruded sections shall be at 6063-T5 aluminum alloy and temper recommended by window manufacturer for strength, corrosion, resistance, and application of required finish extrusion; free from defects impairing strength and durability. b. Hardware: Hardware having component parts which are exposed shall be of aluminum, stainless steel, or other non-corrosive materials compatible with aluminum. Cadmium or zinc-plated steel, where used, must be in accordance with ASTM Specification A165 or A 164. c. Locks: Shall consists of the following: 1) Peerless Window: Euro-Lock/Handle Multi-Point, lift and slide. 2) Litex Window: All metal spring-loaded lock that automatically engages a white bronze keeper at meeting rails. 3) Kawneer Window: PVC spring operated auto lock located on jamb. The cock automatically engages the jamb keeper securing the sash in the closed position. 4) Wojan Window: Self locking in the center of the rail on the operable side. d. Weatherstrip: Secured in extruded ports; double rows on sash perimeters: rigid PVC weatherseal in one side of the horizontal sash rails, and pile conforming to AAMA 701 with polypropylene center fin in remaining locations. e. Thermal Break: The thermal barrier shall provide a continuous uninterrupted thermal break around the entire perimeter of the frame and all panels and shall not be bridged by any metal conductors. f. Screens: 1) Half screens shall consist of 18 x 16 charcoal anodized aluminum mesh secured by vinyl spline to a nominal 5/16" x 1-1/4" x.050" extruded tubular aluminum frame. 2) They shall be remeshable, removable from the interior and held in place with springloaded plungers. g. Finish on Aluminum Extrusion: Application shall be on clean extrusions free from serious surface blemishes or scratches and on all exposed surfaces visible when the installed product's operating sash are closed. Finish shall be painted white.

Laminated Metal Faced Panels: Shall be Mapes-R as manufactured by Mapes Industries. Panels shall be 1" thick with 3/16" hardboard porcelain on aluminum skin and polystyrene core. Color to match aluminum window frame. 4. Performance: Window performance is listed for each product to be bid. D. Installation a. Peerless Windows shall meet criteria and be AAMA rated AW80. b. Litex Windows shall meet criteria and be AAMA Rated AW100. c. Kawneer Windows shall meet criteria and be AAMA Rated AW Site Examination: Verify that openings are within tolerance, plumb, level, clean, provide a solid anchoring surface, and are in accordance with approved shop drawings. a. Correct defective openings as required before installation. All materials to be installed with skilled crafts people in accordance with details and field conditions. Provide required support and securely fasten trim and frames, and set windows plumb, square and level without twist or bow. Provide thermal isolation where components penetrate or disrupt building insulation. Pack fibrous insulation in frame and perimeter spaces to maintain continuity of the thermal barrier. Fasteners shall be of a type which is compatible with material being applied and shall be concealed where possible. Utilize non-expanding anchors into masonry walls. Any fasteners which cannot be concealed shall be colored to match material. Apply sealant per sealant manufacturer's recommendations at joints and intersections, wipe off excess, and leave exposed sealant surfaces clean and smooth. See Section JOINT SEALANTS. Provide maximum 3/8" wide sealant joint at window material.
7 Adjusting and Cleaning: Adjust frames, sash, and hardware after installation, as necessary, to ensure smooth and weathertight operation. a. Leave windows clean and free of labels and dirt. 3. Mock-Up: Install windows in one apartment, as directed by Architect, prior to commencing with project. This apartment, after approved by Architect, will be used as a quality standard for project. E. Attic Stock At the completion of the project, provide two (2) of each size and type of: screen; sash (with glazing); and hardware to the Owner for future use.
