2 1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Product of a single manufacturer specializing in commercial quality chain-link fencing with two years experience. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 FENCE MATERIALS A. Fence Fabric 1. Two-inch diamond pattern mesh, 9-gauge core steel wire fabric with green PVC coating (minimum thickness of 22 mils). 2. Conforming to ASTM A392, class 2 finish and ASTM F Knuckled finish on top and bottom selvages. 4. Single piece for required height. No vertical splices. 5. Windscreen privacy material to be installed over the chain link fabric. Material is to be solid green PVC, UV stabilized and covers the entire height and length of the fence (including gates). B. Steel Posts 1. Schedule 40 steel pipe galvanized in accordance with ASTM A120. Pipe shall be epoxy powder coated a minimum of 2 mils. Pipe shall be green in color and match the green fence fabric and windscreen material. 2. End, pull, and corner posts: 3-inch (nom.) standard pipe, 7.58 pounds per foot. 3. Line posts: 2-inch (nom.) standard pipe, 3.65 pounds per foot. 4. Gate posts: a. Leaf width less than or equal to 6 feet: 2 ½-inch (nom.) standard pipe, 5.79 pounds per foot. b. Leaf with more than 6 feet and less than 13 feet: 3 ½-inch (nom.) standard pipe, 9.11 pounds per foot. C. Top Rail 1. Schedule 40 steel pipe galvanized in accordance with ASTM A120. Pipe shall be epoxy powder coated a minimum of 2 mils. Pipe shall be green in May 2005 Chain Link Fence and Gate 2 of 6
3 color and match the green fence fabric and windscreen material ¼-inch (nom.) standard pipe, 2.27 pounds per foot. 3. Minimum length: 18 feet 4. Rail Couplings: Outside sleeve type, 6-inch minimum length. D. Post Brace Assembly 1. Horizontal Brace: Same material as top brace. 2. Diagonal Truss Brace: 3/8-inch steel rod with adjustable turnbuckle, shall be spray-painted green in color to match fence fabric and windscreen material. E. Tension Wire: 7 gauge galvanized steel wire conforming to ASTM A641. Wire shall be spray-painted green in color to match fence fabric and windscreen material. F. Wire Ties: 9 gauge galvanized steel wire, shall be spray-painted green in color to match fence fabric and windscreen material GATES G. Frame: 1. Schedule 40 steel pipe galvanized in accordance with ASTM A120. Pipe shall be epoxy powder coated a minimum of 2 mils. Pipe shall be green in color and match the green fence fabric and windscreen material ½-inch (nom.) standard pipe, welded or seamless. H. Fabric: Same as fence fabric. I. Install fabric with stretcher bars at vertical and horizontal edges. J. Provide diagonal cross-bracing to provide rigid frame without sag or twist. Brace shall be 3/8-diameter rod with adjustable turnbuckle. Brace and turnbuckle shall be spray-painted green in color to match fence fabric and windscreen material. K. Hardware 1. Galvanized hardware conforming to ASTM A153. All hardware shall be spray-painted green in color to match the green fence fabric and windscreen material. May 2005 Chain Link Fence and Gate 3 of 6
4 2. Hinges: a. Pressed steel or malleable iron. b. Size and number appropriate to support full load of gate. c. Non-lift off type. d. Offset to permit 180 degree gate operation. 3. Latch: a. Forked or plate type. b. Operable from either side of gate. c. Padlock eye integral with latch. d. Double leaf gates lockable with a single padlock. 4. Provide keeper to hold gate in open position until manually released. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 PREPARATION A. Clear fence line of obstructions. B. Remove surface irregularities to provide uniform distance between ground and bottom of fence. C. Complete finish grading before beginning installation of fence and gate POST LOCATION A. Line Posts: Equidistant at intervals not to exceed 10 feet. B. Set terminal posts (end, corner, and gate) at the beginning and end of each continuous length of fence, and at changes in vertical or horizontal alignment POST INTALLATION A. Dig or drill post holes at the locations or intervals specified in firm undisturbed or compacted soil. B. Hole Diameter: 4 times outside diameter or post; 12-inch minimum. C. Set posts vertically on line and plumb. D. Set posts 3 feet below grade, and encase in concrete that extends to finished grade. 5 A. Install post bracing at end and gate posts, and on both sides of corner and pull posts. B. Mount bracing horizontally between post to be braced and adjacent line post. C. Locate bracing at the mid-height of fabric. Truss back to base of post to be braced with 3/8 inch truss rod with turnbuckles TOP RAIL AND TENSION WIRE A. Support top rail at each post to provide continuous support for each segment of fence installed. B. Secure top rail to terminal posts. Join with sleeves or coupling to allow for expansion and contraction. C. Fasten bottom of tension wire within bottom 6 inches of fabric. Secure to terminal posts and tighten until free of sag FENCE FABRIC A. Install fabric on outside of posts, 2 inches above ground level at the location shown on the drawings. B. Install fabric by securing at one end, pull tight to remove slack, and attach fabric to posts progressing continuously along each segment. C. Provide one stretcher bar for each end post, and two for each gate, corner post, and pull post. D. Thread stretcher bar through fabric and fasten with clamp and bolts at intervals not exceeding 15 inches on center. E. Fasten fabric to line posts at intervals not exceeding 15 inches. F. Fasten fabric to tension wire at intervals not exceeding 24 inches. G. Attach windscreens to fencing as needed to present a neat appearance GATES A. Install gate plumb, level, and secure to allow un-obstructed operation. B. Install ground-set item in concrete. C. Adjust hardware for smooth operation through full range of motion.
