18 The 2015 IECC New Definitions Approved Agency An established and recognized agency regularly engaged in conducting test or furnishing inspection services, when such agency has been approved by the code official. Continuous insulation (ci) Insulating material that is continuous across all structural member without thermal bridging other than fasteners and service openings. Exposed earth in unvented crawlspaces will be covered with a Class 1 vapor retarder with overlapping joints taped. Insulation criteria Floor framing cavity insulation will be installed to maintain permanent contact with the underside of subfloor decking, or floor framing cavity insulation will be permitted to be in contact with the top side of sheathing, or continuous insulation installed on the underside of floor framing and extends from the bottom to the top of all perimeter floor framing members. Where provided instead of floor insulation, insulation will be permanently attached to the crawlspace walls

Recessed light fixtures installed in the building thermal envelope will be sealed to the drywall. Batts in narrow cavities will be cut to fit, or narrow cavities will be filled by insulation that on installation readily conforms to the available cavity space. Recessed light fixtures installed in the building thermal envelope will be air tight and IC rated. Batt insulation will be cut neatly to fit around wiring and plumbing in exterior walls, or insulation that on installation readily conforms to the available space will extend behind piping and wiring Lights

33 Plumbing J Boxes & HVAC Component Air Barrier Criteria Insulation criteria Tub / Shower exterior wall J Boxes on exterior walls (Electric and phone) HVAC register boots The air barrier installed at exterior walls adjacent to showers and tubs will separate them from the showers and tubs. The air barrier will be installed behind electrical or communication boxes or air sealed boxes will be installed. HVAC register boots that penetrate building thermal envelope will be sealed to the subfloor or drywall. Exterior walls adjacent to showers and tubs will be insulated. Concealed speakers Concealed fire sprinklers will only be sealed in a manner recommended by the manufacturer. Caulking or other sealants will not be used to fill voids between the sprinkler cover plate and walls or ceilings/
