Offering higher strength and stiffness, pultruded sections have the advantage in structural performance, with heavy duty sections suitable for tractor and trailer loads (HI Series). Either type of CorGrate is much lighter than its metal counterpart, resulting in reduced weight of structures and significant savings in installation costs. 4 Selecting Fiberglass Grating Choose from a wide range of standard CorGrate styles. Molded versus Pultruded Grating Molded - With a high resin to glass ratio, (approximately 65% resin to 35% glass by weight) CorGrate molded grating is engineered to provide maximum corrosion resistance in tough conditions such as those found in pulp mills, chemical plants, plating operations and others. The interwoven square mesh construction for CorGrate molded grating results in bi-directional strength. This design, in many cases, eliminates the need for extra structural supports at penetrations that are required for rectangular mesh construction. This can be particularly important in complex process areas that have a large number of openings and penetrations. Pultruded - Covering a wide range of conditions, CorGrate has the broadest line of pultruded gratings available today. Standard sizes are maintained in stock and can be fabricated to length by CorGrate to meet specific needs. The higher glass to resin ratio (approximately 35% resin to 65% glass by weight) of pultruded grating results in sections with higher structural properties than molded sections of similar depth and weight. Because of longer span capability, support structures can be reduced, resulting in lower total cost when using pultruded grating instead of molded. To significantly reduce scrap and thereby lower cost, pultruded gratings can be manufactured in custom length and widths for large projects. The corrosion resistance of pultruded grating is superior to galvanized steel, aluminum, or stainless steel. It is the ideal choice for applications with high load demands or long spans and moderate chemical exposure. 5 Determine resin system based on product environment. Resin Systems and Corrosion Protection CorGrate fiberglass gratings are furnished in three, fire retardant resin systems, each providing a different level of corrosion protection. CorGrate grating furnished in any standard resin system has a low flame spread rating of 25 or less when tested in accordance with ASTM E-84. Specific details and user recommendations for the resin system can be found in the chemical resistance guide on page 21. Vinyl Ester (VF) is a vinyl ester resin system that provides the highest level of corrosion protection and demonstrates better retention of structural properties at elevated temperatures. Isophthalic Polyester (PF) is a premium grade polyester resin designed for applications where there is moderate exposure (splash and spill) to corrosive elements in moderate temperature conditions. General Purpose Polyester (GF) is an economy polyester that meets the corrosion resistance found in light industrial and water/wastewater applications. Both polyester resin systems are acceptable for use in food grade applications, per the United States Department of Agriculture. Receive benefits of using CorGrate s FRP materials. Slip Resistance For molded grating the concave (meniscus) shaped top surface provides very good and durable slip resistance or CorGrate s silica grit surfaces enhance slip resistant surfaces particularly in oily environments. For conditions with unusually high abrasion, CorGrate can furnish an aluminum oxide gritted surface (upon special request) for greater durability. A gritted top surface is standard for pultruded CorGrate sections at no additional charge, and optional for molded gratings for an additional charge. The slip resistant benefit of fiberglass grating offers excellent protection against slips and falls when compared to traditional metal grating. Low Maintenance Fiberglass gratings require virtually no maintenance. Periodic cleaning with water or water containing a mild detergent is recommended to remove build-up or debris and/or foreign material. Avoid using high pressure and/or high temperature water, which could possibly remove and degrade the grit surface. Gratings which are fastened to supports with clips should be periodically checked and the loose clips tightened CorGrate Fiberglass Systems 5

6 Molded SM Series CorGrate Molded SM (Square Mesh) with its high resin to glass ratio provides the maximum corrosion protection of any CorGrate s gratings. Unique to molded section, the bars are the same construction, depth, and spacing in both directions which results in equal strength in either direction. The top surface is skid resistant, meniscus (concave) surface, with an optional quartz or aluminum oxide grit. 1, 1-1/2 or 2 1-1/2 or 2 CC 1-1/2 or 2 CC Standard color for general purpose (GF) is dark gray or yellow. Standard color for isophthalic polyester (PF) is green or dark gray. Standard color for vinyl ester (VF) is orange or dark gray. All three resins have a flame spread rating of 25 or less. 7 Pultruded FW Series CorGrate FW (Flush Top Wide Flange) gratings provide superior and economical walking surface with exceptional strength and good corrosion protection. With sections offering either 60% or 40% open area, the FW products are an excellent choice for working platforms. Flush top tie bar systems are usually preferred for walking surfaces over non-flush bar products. 1, 1-1/4 or 1-1/2 Open Area 60% or 40% 1 or 1-1/2 CC.60 TYP Standard lengths are 20 and 24. 8 Pultruded WT Series (1, 1-1/2 ) CorGrate WT (Wide Flange T) sections provide maximum surface area underfoot, thus the most comfortable walking surface and an excellent surface for two-wheel moving equipment. These designs are excellent for areas with high traffic and light hand trucks or wheeled carts. All of the WT sections feature a drop notch tie bar system that resists bearing bar racking and rotation. WT00 provides a cost effective solid deck surface. 1 or 1-1/2 Open Area 50% or 33% 2 or 1-1/2 CC 1-5/8 TYP. Standard lengths are 20 and 24. Standard color for 1 an 1-1/2 WT gratings is light gray for both isophthalic polyester (PF) and vinyl ester (VF) resin systems. 9 Pultruded WT Series (2 ) CorGrate 2 WT (Wide Flange T) also offers a wide flange walking surface that improves walking and standing comfort. 2 WT sections have the highest strength to weight ratio of all CorGrate gratings and offer the greatest economy for applications with long spans. Standard color for 2 WT gratings is yellow for isophthalic polyester (PF) and dark gray for vinyl ester (VF) resin systems. Standard gratings are furnished with gritted, skid resistant top surface. CorGrate HI (Heavy Duty I-Bar) sections are high strength gratings designed specifically for heavy loading with HI 47 having the highest load capacity of any fiberglass grating available today. The sections are engineered to support vehicular traffic including transport trucks up to H20 unidirectional loading. For turning wheel loads, Covered HI grating with 1/4 plate must be used and a CorGrate representative contacted for design assistance. 11 Pultruded SI Series With profile appearance similar to metal grating, CorGrate SI (Standard I-Bar) sections are provided for applications where a close match to a steel or aluminum profile or to an existing installation is needed. SI sections with bonded rod crossbars (without locking assembly) are suitable for use in low pedestrian traffic areas. 12 CorTreads - Fiberglass Stair Treads CorTread fi berglass stair treads deliver safety and long lasting durability. Manufactured with premium polyester or vinyl ester resin, CorTreads provide outstanding protection against corrosion and reliability structural performance. Exceeding OSHA requirements important safety benefi ts are addressed with slip resistant surfaces, non-conductivity, low fl ame spread and contrasting nosing to differentiate step off location. CorTreads are supplied in two ways: (1) in full 2 x12 panels so local maintenance personnel can cut individual treads or, (2) treads fabricated by CorGrate in custom lengths up to 48 and in depths up to 12, to accommodate specifi c customer needs. The most vulnerable point of a stair tread is the nosing. For greater durability, CorTread nosings are high strength, heavy bars with slip resistant, gritted surface. With high structural properties, the heavy bar nosing provides greater stiffness and builds in durability CorGrate Fiberglass Systems

13 Stair Treads Molded Stair Treads Available in the 3 standard resins: VF, PF and GF. Please specify. Yellow gritted pultruded nosing standard; applied grit surface on tread grating optional at additional cost. Four stainless steel J Bolts per tread standard. Two 2 x 2 x 1/4 support angles per tread, with bolts are optional at additional cost. Pultruded nosing provides superior stiffness on the front edge of the stair tread. Defl ection for treads are based upon a 300 lb. concentrated load at mid span on the front 5 of the tread. All treads are supplied with 4 stainless steel clips per tread; nuts, bolts and washers optional at additional costs. 14 Structural Shapes CorGrate manufactures and stocks many sizes of structural components, including angles, T s, channels, I- beams flat sheets, and plates. These structural shapes meet ASTM requirements. CorGrate will fabricate them to your specifications to create platforms, ladders, handrails, etc., or will provide them in stock lengths for your own fabrications. Resin Systems Standard and custom shapes can be produced in a wide variety of resin systems best suited for your application. We have developed three standard resin systems that generally cover most applications and remain readily available. 18 CorPlate /Covered Grating CorPlate is a premium quality FRP flat sheet provided in 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 thickness. The top surface can be smooth or have a gritted slipresistant surface. For covered grating applications, 1/8 or 1/4 CorPlate is laminated to CorGrate molded and pultruded gratings to form a solid and corrosion resistant working surface. These materials are used for applications where free passage of light, fluids, odors or air is not desired nor drainage a requirement as in pit covers where reduction of corrosive vapors is needed. HI heavy duty covered gratings are recommended for areas exposed to turning wheel traffic.
