3 1. Introduction This document gives an indication to the users about system requirements and new functionalities and enhancements that are implemented in RulesCalc Software. Details about the implementation of all functionalities are not covered in this document. More details and information can be found in the user guide and getting started guide which are available in the installation directory. For details about rule implementations in the programs, the user should consult the user guide and support desk for information about how to use the program for specific ship structures. 2. Product information Information on Lloyd s Register Marine software products can be obtained from 3. System requirements RulesCalc software requires the following hardware and software configurations: Hardware 3GB RAM, or greater. 24 Display strongly recommended. Intel Core processor or equivalent. Software Microsoft Windows versions: XP SP2 and later (32-bit only) Vista (32-bit only) 7 (32-bit and 64-bit) 4. Training and Support information To for training information or for support or to report an error, please contact our engineering software support team at es.support@lr.org 1

4 5. What s new in RulesCalc RulesCalc software is a product for calculation of Class requirements to the Rules and Regulations for the Classification of Ships. The following items describe major features and changes to the application: 1. Implementation of URS11A RulesCalc now implements the calculations for the CSR URS11A requirements. The calculations have been merged with existing RulesCalc calculations where applicable 2. Implementation of Shear Flow A new tool for calculation the shear stress distribution in a transverse section due to vertical bending. 3. Ship Torsion RulesCalc now implements the calculations for ship torsion 4. Rules update RulesCalc has been updated for the July 2017 issue of the Rules and Regulations for the Classification of Ships. Please note that all rule references in this document pertain to the Lloyd s Register Rules and Regulations for the Classification of Ships unless otherwise noted. 5. Ultimate Strength Assessment Calculations in Ultimate Strength Assessment have been update as per A review and study on ultimate strength of steel plates and stiffened panels in axial compression, Shengming Zhang, Ships and Offshore Structures Vol. 11, Iss. 1, Resolved Issues Ref no: Details Correction for Hrm for passenger ships aft end (Location : Local scantlings/aft structures) Dissable Machinery branch Updating graphics to use consistent units when displaying transverse views Fix for upper and lower extent of higher tensile steel in bottom and deck region Required Material for strakes is incorrectly highlighted in red if a better grade material is selected. Bilge longitudinals to be assessed as side shell longs or as bilge longs depending on required double bottom height. Bilge plating to be assessed as side shell or as bilge depending on the location with respect to inner bottom Remove warning "Damage waterline must be input for complete assessment" Sheer strake plating additional requirements and incorrect kl in case of higher tensile steel of strength 390. Watertight head h4 not correctly calculated. Error in section modulus calculation at Hatch Coaming. Bottom and bilge plating additional requirement. Fixed keel plating breadth requirement. Fixed Side shell plating additional requirement. 2

5 Fixed Local Scantlings - Deep Tank and Watertight bulkheads calculations of plating, secondary and primary stiffening. Parenthesis missing in formula for Pt3 Ch8 Sec b. Incorrect formula for C_w_min Pt 4 Ch2 Sec Correction for cargo deck where fork lift are used. Addressed the stiffener spacing issue. It now uses the spacing between the actual stiffeners rather than the width of the strake Fix in compartment contents when wizard is used to create a midship section Pt4Ch1Table1.5.3 Note 4: kl maybe taken as 1 outside high tensile region Incorrect thickness calculation for side shell (trans framing). Required section modulus for transverse shell framing (keel, bottom, bilge, side shell) is being calculated based on Pt4 Ch 1 Table 1.6.1, which is for longitudinals. Table to apply instead. When panel framing is set to "Transverse" the stiffeners should not be included in section property calculation of the hull section. Disable the following grid items in "Stiffener Groups" tab when framing = "transverse". 1. Corrected critical buckling stress Corrected design stress Incorrect thickness calculation for side shell (trans framing) The deck location enum value "weather exposed superstructure decks" is not valid for a main deck Disable this enum value for main deck Incorrect calculation of required thickness for main deck Corrected Side shell requirements for passenger ferry A new grid was created to show alpha_p value and is over-writable VI10419 Fixed ref error when calculating Stem Required thickness Corrected calculation of Le in Tables Pt3 Ch5 and Pt3 Ch Enabled table Pt3 Ch5 for double bottom in the fore region Corrected calculation for the head h4 is for deep tank outside of midship region Corrected load shortening curve for LR Corrected shear stress calculation in strake Fixed application crash Corrected plastic section modulus for bulb profiles Fixed K1 value incorrectly calculated in for cargo deck panel K1 factor correction for the case where a panel is at same time bottom and crown of tank Corrected required modulus for bow flare slamming Fixed application crash in Local Scantlings DeckBeamsnLong Enabled shell envelope framing for ferries and passenger ships Correction for the MWO value displayed in intermediate calcs Correction for the worst case reduction factor in Hull Bending Strength branch Correction for the load utilisation factor correcting the sign for sagging BM Corrected the design bending moment, load utilisation factor and VWBM values in Ultimate Strength Assessment Correction for the Kl value for calculation of the effective section modulus at main deck and keel Implementation of Note 3 in Pt3,Ch2,Sec1,Table Interpolation point corrected as 0.66 instead of Correction for Design Wave Shear Force for 0.6L-0.7L and 0.85L-1.0L 3

6 30812 Fixing Issue with Still Water Shear Force missing Rule 2011 Notice Adding function declaration related to KL fix KL correction (a kl factor of 0,66 may be applied to steel with a specified minimum yield stress of N/mm2 for deck and hatch coamings when plate or web thickness is greater than 50 mm) Using ht2 in place of ht3 in calculating Z fir Part 4, Chapter 1, Table fix for crash when deleting coaming Correction for KL factor in Container Ships 7. Known limitations 1. Transverse sections branch The transverse sections branch is not validated for regions outside of the mid-ship and may provide incorrect results. 2. Transverse stiffeners Transverse stiffeners implementations are incomplete and may provide incorrect results. 3. kl value used for calculating the extends of high tensile steel region kl used in transverse sections for calculating the higher and lower extents of high tensile steel region for materials with yield strength 390N/mm2 and 460N/mm2 are 0.68 and 0.62 respectively, irrespective of the plate thickness. 4
