3 Standards & Guidance AD B3 (Sect 10) - Protection of openings and fire stopping 10.2 If a fire-separating element is to be effective, every joint or imperfection of fit, or opening to allow services to pass through the element, should be adequately protected by sealing or fire-stopping so that the fire resistance of the element is not impaired adds the requirement that: Joints between fire separating elements should be fire stopped; and All openings for pipes, ducts, conduits or cables to pass through any part of a fire separating element should be: Kept as few in number as possible; and Kept as small as practical; and Fire stopped (which in the case of a pipe or duct, should allow for thermal movement).

4 Pipe Wraps & Collars HTM05/02 Clause To maintain the integrity of compartmentation, openings should be limited to: b. openings for pipes of not more than 160mm diameter which, if exposed to a temperature of 800 C, will not soften or fracture to the extent that flames or hot gases will pass through the wall of the pipe; c. pipes of materials other than those in (b) above of not more than 40mm diameter; d. pipes of any diameter which are provided with a proprietary seal which has been shown by test (for the diameter of pipe proposed) to maintain the fire resistance of the compartment structure;
