4 WHAT CAUSES MOLD? Food Source Carbon-based Substances (paper, wood, etc) Water Source Building Envelop Water Leaks Infiltration of humid air Piping leaks Showering, Cooking, Laundry Condensation on surfaces Mold Spores (which are ubiquitous) 48 Once a leak occurs mold begins to grow in hours.
