14 LONG TERM LAY-UP ISSUES Safety, Security and Assurance for Units Removed From Location. Exposure such as Breaking Free of Mooring. Fire. Watertight Integrity. Collision. Frequent follow up and inspection as opposed to lock and leave. Seek same level of support engineering & documentation as other phases of asset lifecycle.

15 CONTRACTUAL CONSIDERATIONS Early Termination of FPSO lease contracts has been an area of potential legal dispute. Termination for cause or convenience. Independent Reviews conducted in advance can save time and money compared to lengthy arbitration processes. Decisions on redeployment are key areas of underwriter exposure.

16 CASE STUDY (APOLLO SPIRIT) Unique Construction, Modification & Operating History. Fast tracked FSO Life Extension to increase design life by 6 years. Actual structural details were different from drawings in several locations, presenting an engineering challenge. A total of 260 tonnes of Steel replaced at Remontowa Shipyard, Poland. An example of how early preparation is key.

17 CASE STUDY (NAUTICA MUAR DECOMMISSIONING) Engineering Support towards Decommissioning of Nautica Muar FSU & redeployment of Mampu 1 FSO. Limited storage capacity main driver for decommissioning. Currently being executed and various types of engineering analysis and assessments were required before the project could commence.

18 CONCLUSIONS Drivers for success include: Proper Scope Management. Safety & Risk Management. Firm Communication Protocols. Effective Management of Change. Clear Definition at the outset. Collaboration & Communication. Floating Units have the right level of flexibility. Effective Redeployment of units can be more attractive than new build units provided that the associated risks are identified and managed. Critical to ensure that the marine assurance aspects are adequately covered.
