3 SECTION MISCELLANEOUS METAL PART 1 GENERAL 1.1 DESCRIPTION A. The Contractor shall furnish and install the miscellaneous metal as shown on the plans and as specified herein. 1.2 DESIGN A. Components not sized on the plans shall be proportioned to provide ample strength and stiffness for the loads expected. All steel shall meet the requirements of ASTM A36. All cast iron shall meet the requirements of ASTM A DIMENSIONS A. The contractor shall field verify all dimensions, locations, and elevations of anchors, bolts, plates, openings, and other miscellaneous metal items and be responsible for their proper fit. 1.4 COORDINATION A. Schedule and coordinate work with other trades to avoid delays, errors, and omissions. 1.5 FASTENERS 1.6 HOLES A. Fasteners shall be concealed where practical. All bolts shall be countersunk, properly sized, and of proper length to permit full thread in the nut and project not more than 1/4 inch beyond the nut. Provide lock washers at all nuts and nick the bolt to prevent loosening. All welds shall be smooth and regular, solid, and homogeneous throughout and free from pits, slag, scale, and other defects. Joints exposed to weather shall be made watertight with gaskets or continuous welding. All welds in exposed finished work shall be ground smooth. A. All holes shall be drilled or punched with clean, true lines and surfaces. 1.7 GALVANIZING A. Where galvanized or zinc coated is called for, it shall be hot dipped in accordance with the standard specifications of the American Hot Dip Galvanizers Association. 1.8 CASTINGS A. All castings shall be free of warp, gas and pit holes, and other defects that might impair strength or appearance. 1.9 SHOP DRAWINGS A. Shop drawings shall be submitted to the Engineer for approval. Shop drawings shall indicate the materials, type, size, connections, dimensions, coatings, welding, and other details. Fabrication and installation shall be in accordance with the approved shop drawings

4 PART 2 MATERIALS 2.1 COATINGS A. Painting 1. See Section 09800, Protective Coatings. B. Anchors 1. All ferrous anchors that are not galvanized shall be coated with asphalt paint prior to installation. C. Galvanized 1. Galvanized metal shall not be painted, unless otherwise noted. All abraded areas, welds, or holes drilled in the field shall be coated with a cold galvanizing material. D. Aluminum 2.2 RAILINGS A. Type 1. All aluminum in contact with concrete, masonry, or dissimilar metals shall be isolated by coating the contact surfaces with a bituminous material. Care shall be utilized to keep bituminous coating from coming in contact with caulking. 1. Steel. Steel railing shall be 1 ½ inch Schedule 40 pipe of the size and shape shown with all joints welded and ground smooth. 2. Aluminum. Aluminum railings shall be Type 6063-T5 or T6 extruded aluminum, 1 ½ inch Schedule 40 pipe. All fittings shall be one piece, extrusion machined to final shapes for a tight, flush fit. All fasteners shall be Type 305 stainless steel, set flush or hidden. Railings shall have a brush satin anodized 215R1 finish (AA M32C21A41) unless noted otherwise. Kick plates shall be 4 inches high and a minimum thickness of 1/4" meeting the material specification above. 3. Stainless Steel. Stainless steel railings shall be Type 304, 1 ½ inch, Schedule 10 pipe. All fittings shall be machined to final shapes for a tight, flush fit. All fasteners shall be Type 305 stainless steel, set flush or hidden. Railings shall have a brush satin finish. B. Weep Holes 1. Provide weep holes at all posts, gates, and where recommended by the manufacturer. Location and size of holes shall be as recommended by the manufacturer. C. Anchoring 1. Railings shall be anchored as shown on the plans and meet all local, state, and OSHA requirements. D. Expansion 1. Provide for expansion of rails where and as recommended by the manufacturer

5 2.3 CHAINS A. Chains, where shown, shall be a multiple row of 1/4 inch, Type 304, all welded stainless steel. Chains shall come complete with Type 316 stainless steel swivel safety snap at each end and a Type 316 stainless steel eyebolt anchored to the railing or wall. 2.4 GRATINGS A. Type 1. Aluminum. Aluminum grating shall be Type 6063 aluminum, rectangular pressure lock type. Bearing bars shall be not less than 3/16 inch thick with a minimum depth of 1 1/4 inches and spaced not greater than 1 3/16 inches on center. Crossbars shall be 3/4 inch by 1/8 inch spaced 4 inches on center. 2. Fiberglass. Fiberglass grating shall be square mesh or T bar type composed of polyester resins and continuous glass fibers with an integral grit safety surface. Grating shall be not less than 1 ½ inches thick with all components corrosion resistant. B. Design Loading 1. Gratings shall be designed for a uniform load of 250 pounds per square foot with a deflection of not more than L/160 of the span, unless otherwise shown. C. Supports 1. Gratings shall be supported on all four sides by an angle of the same material as the grating. 2. Angle supports shall be securely anchored. Where the support angle extends across an opening, the support angle shall be supplemented with a structural channel. 3. Channel shall be on the same material as the grating and not less than 3 inches in depth. D. Gratings shall be set flush with the finished surface and the gratings shall be of uniform depth in any one area. Gratings shall be secured to their supports by removable anchors. Anchors shall be set every 4'-0" on center but not less than two anchors per section of grating. 2.5 STRUCTURAL SHAPES A. Lintels shall have not less than 8 inches on each side of the opening, where possible. B. All structural shapes other than lintels shall be as required to complete the work. All anchors connections, bearing plates, and fabrication details shall be standard, unless otherwise noted. 2.6 STAIRS A. All stair treads, stringers, railings, angles, landings, anchors, clips, and supports shall be as shown. B. All stairs shall be designed to meet local, state, and OSHA requirements with a safety factor of BAR SCREENS

6 A. Bar screens shall be of welded construction with bar sizes, shapes, lengths, spacings, materials, and anchoring as shown. 2.8 LADDERS A. Ladders shall be as shown with all anchors, bolts and necessary appurtenances. All joints shall be welded and ground smooth. 2.9 STAIR NOSINGS A. All concrete stairs shall be provided with anti-slip stair nosings. Stair nosings shall be extruded aluminum with four alternating ribs of abrasive grit. Abrasive grit shall be not less than 19 ounces of aluminum oxide per square foot of nosing COVERS AND FRAMES A. Covers and frames for access openings shall be cast iron or mill finish aluminum of the size, type, and style noted on the plans. All hardware for aluminum access doors shall be Type 316 stainless steel. B. Covers and frames for pipe openings shall be 1/4-inch aluminum plate set in an aluminum bar frame. Covers shall be split ring type for installed pipe and solid for openings of future pipe. C. Expansion Joints 2.11 ACCESS STEPS 1. Flush Type. Cover and frame for expansion joints shall be flush type, extruded aluminum frame with 1/4-inch aluminum cover plate and neoprene insert. 2. Surface Type. Cover for expansion joints shall be preformed aluminum shapes with tapered edges, anchored on one side only. Anchors shall be stainless steel, flat head type, set flush, 12 inches on center. A. Access steps shall be polyethylene-encased steel bar type as manufactured by M.A. Industries Model PS ANCHOR BOLTS A. Unless otherwise noted, all anchor bolts, washers, and nuts shall be Type 316 stainless steel. Anchors shall be of a length for proper embedment and permit full threading of the nut. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 MISCELLANEOUS METAL LIST A. The following list is for the convenience of the Contractor and the omission of any miscellaneous metal does not release the Contractor from the responsibility to furnish and install all the miscellaneous metal. 1. Fabricate structural steel members in accordance with AISC - Specification for the Design, Fabrication and Erection of Structural Steel for Buildings. B. Perform Work in accordance with AISC - Specification for Architectural Exposed Structural Steel. 1.6 QUALIFICATIONS A. Fabricator: Company specializing in performing the work of this Section with minimum 3 years experience. B. Erector: Company specializing in performing the work of this Section with minimum 3 years experience. C. Design connections not detailed on the Drawings under direct supervision of a Professional Structural Engineer experienced in design of this work and licensed in the State of Indiana. 1.7 FIELD MEASUREMENTS A. Verify that field measurements are as shown on shop drawings. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.1 MATERIALS A. Structural Steel Members: ASTM A36. B. Structural Tubing: ASTM A500, Grade B, A46 Steel C. Bolts, Nuts, and Washers: ASTM A325 galvanized to ASTM A153 for galvanized members. D. Anchor Bolts: ASTM A36 E. Welding Materials: AWS D1.1; type required for materials being welded. F. Grout: Non-shrink type, pre-mixed compound consisting of non-metallic aggregate, cement, water reducing and plasticizing additives, capable of developing a minimum compressive strength of 7,000 psi at 28 days. 11 2.2 FABRICATION 2.3 FINISH A. Continuously seal joined members by continuous welds. Grind exposed welds smooth. A. Prepare structural component surfaces in accordance with SSPC SP 2. B. Shop prime structural steel members. Do not prime surfaces that will be field welded, in contact with concrete or high strength bolted. 2.4 SOURCE QUALITY CONTROL AND TESTS A. Testing of components will be performed under provisions of Section PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Verify that field conditions area acceptable and are ready to receive work. 3.2 ERECTION A. Allow for erection loads, and for sufficient temporary bracing to maintain structure safe, plumb, and in true alignment until completion of erection and installation of permanent bracing. B. Field weld components indicated on shop drawings. C. Do not field cut or alter structural members without approval of Engineer. D. After erection, prime welds, abrasions, and surfaces not shop primed except surfaces to be in contact with concrete. E. Grout under base plates. 3.3 ERECTION TOLERANCES A. Maximum Variation From Plumb: 1/4 inch per story. B. Maximum Offset From True Alignment: 1/4 inch. 3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. 13 SECTION METAL FABRICATIONS PART 1 GENERAL 1.1 SECTION INCLUDES A. Shop fabricated ferrous metal items, prime painted. 1.2 PRODUCTS FURNISHED BUT NOT INSTALLED UNDER THIS SECTION A. Section Cast-In-Place Concrete: Placement of metal fabrications in concrete; pipe bollards and pit frame. 1.3 REFERENCES A. ASTM A36 - Structural Steel. B. Grind exposed joints flush and smooth with adjacent finish surface. Make exposed joints butt tight, flush, and hairline. Ease exposed edges to small uniform radius. E. Exposed Mechanical Fastenings: Flush countersunk screws or bolts; unobtrusively located; consistent with design of component, except where specifically noted otherwise. F. Supply components required for anchorage of fabrications. Fabricate anchors and related components of same material and finish as fabrication, except where specifically noted otherwise. 2.3 FINISHES A. Clean surfaces of rust, scale, grease, and foreign matter prior to priming. B. Do not prime surfaces in direct contact with concrete or where field welding is required. C. Prime paint items with one coat. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Verify that field conditions are acceptable and are ready to receive work. B. Beginning of installation means erector accepts existing conditions. 3.2 PREPARATION A. Clean and strip primed steel items to bare metal where site welding is required. 3.3 INSTALLATION A. Install items plumb and level, accurately fitted, free from distortion or defects. B. Allow for erection loads, and for sufficient temporary bracing to maintain true alignment until completion of erection and installation of permanent attachments. C. Field weld components indicated on Drawings. D. Perform field welding in accordance with AWS D1.1. E. Obtain Engineer approval prior to site cutting or making adjustments not scheduled. F. After erection, prime welds, abrasions, and surfaces not shop primed, except surfaces to be in contact with concrete

17 SECTION METAL STAIRS PART 1 GENERAL 1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. This Section includes the following: 1. Straight run, steel-framed stairs with concrete filled metal pans. B. Related Sections: 1. Division 5 Section "Pipe and Tube Railings" for pipe and tube handrails and railing systems. 1.3 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A. Structural Performance: Engineer, fabricate, and install steel stairs to withstand the following structural loads without exceeding the allowable design working stress of the materials involved, including anchors and connections. Apply each load to produce the maximum stress in each component of steel stairs. 1.4 SUBMITTALS 1. Treads of Steel Stairs: Capable of withstanding a uniform load of 100 lbf per sq. ft. (4.8 kn/sq. m) or a concentrated load of 300 lbf (1.35 kn) on a area of 4 sq. inches (26 sq. cm) located in the center of the tread, whichever produces the greater stress. 2. Platforms of Steel Stairs: Capable of withstanding a uniform load of 100 lbf per sq. ft. (4.8 kn/sq. m). 3. Stair Framing: Capable of withstanding stresses resulting from loads specified above as well as stresses resulting from railing system loads. A. General: Submit each item in this Article according to the Conditions of the Contract and Division 1 Specification Sections. B. Shop drawings detailing fabrication and installation of steel stairs. Include plans, elevations, sections, and details of steel stairs and their connections. Show anchorage and accessory items. Provide templates for anchors and bolts specified for installation under other sections. 1. For installed steel stairs indicated to comply with certain design loadings, include structural analysis data sealed and signed by the qualified professional engineer who was responsible for their preparation. C. Welder certificates signed by Contractor certifying that welders comply with requirements specified under the "Quality Assurance" Article

18 D. Qualification data for firms and persons specified in the "Quality Assurance" Article to demonstrate their capabilities and experience. Include list of completed projects with project names, addresses, names of architects and owners, and other information specified. 1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Fabricator Qualifications: Firm experienced in producing steel stairs similar to those indicated for this Project with a record of successful in-service performance and with sufficient production capacity to produce required units without delaying the Work. B. Installer Qualifications: Arrange for steel stair installation specified in this Section by the same firm that fabricated them. C. Engineer Qualifications: A professional engineer legally authorized to practice in jurisdiction where Project is located and experienced in providing engineering services of the kind indicated that have resulted in the installation of metal stairs (including handrails and railing systems) similar to this Project in material, design, and extent and that have a record of successful in-service performance. D. Welding Standards: Comply with applicable provisions of AWS D1.1 "Structural Welding Code--Steel" and AWS D1.3 "Structural Welding Code--Sheet Steel." 1. Certify that each welder has satisfactorily passed AWS qualification tests for welding processes involved and, if pertinent, has undergone recertification. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 FERROUS METALS A. Metal Surfaces, General: For surfaces exposed to view in the completed Work, provide materials selected for their surface flatness, smoothness, and freedom from surface blemishes. Do not use materials with exposed pitting, seam marks, roller marks, rolled trade names, roughness, or, for steel sheet, variations in flatness exceeding those permitted by referenced standards for stretcher-leveled sheet. B. Steel Plates, Shapes, and Bars: ASTM A 36/A 36M. C. Steel Tubing: Product type (manufacturing method) and as follows: 1. Cold-Formed Steel Tubing: ASTM A Hot-Formed Steel Tubing: ASTM A 501. D. Steel Pipe: ASTM A 53, standard weight (schedule 40), unless otherwise indicated, or another weight required by structural loads. 1. Black finish, unless otherwise indicated. E. Rolled Steel Floor Plate: ASTM A 786/A 786M. F. Steel Bars for Gratings: ASTM A 569/A 569M or ASTM A 36/A 36M. G. Wire Rod for Grating Cross Bars: ASTM A 510 (ASTM A 510M). H. Uncoated Structural Steel Sheet: Product type (manufacturing method), quality, and grade

Uncoated Steel Sheet: Commercial quality, product type (method of manufacture) as follows: 1. Cold-Rolled Steel Sheet: ASTM A 366/A 366M. 2. Hot-Rolled Steel Sheet: ASTM A 569/A 569M. J. Welding Rods and Bare Electrodes: Select according to AWS specifications for the metal alloy to be welded. 2.2 FASTENERS 2.3 PAINT A. General: Provide plated fasteners complying with ASTM B 633, Class Fe/Zn 25 for electrodeposited zinc coating, for exterior use or where built into exterior walls. Select fasteners for the type, grade, and class required. B. Bolts and Nuts: Regular hexagon-head type, ASTM A 307, Grade A (ASTM F 568, Property Class 4.6), with hex nuts, ASTM A 563 (ASTM A 563M), and, where indicated, flat washers. C. Machine Screws: ANSI B (ANSI B18.6.7M). D. Lag Bolts: ANSI B (ANSI B M). E. Plain Washers: Round, carbon steel, ANSI B (ANSI B18.22M). F. Lock Washers: Helical, spring type, carbon steel, ANSI B G. Expansion Anchors: Anchor bolt and sleeve assemblies of material indicated below with capability to sustain, without failure, a load equal to 6 times the load imposed when installed in unit masonry and equal to 4 times the load imposed when installed in concrete as determined by testing per ASTM E 488 conducted by a qualified independent testing agency. 1. Material: Carbon steel components zinc-plated to comply with ASTM B 633, Class Fe/Zn 5. A. Shop Primer for Ferrous Metal: Fast-curing, lead- and chromate-free, universal modified-alkyd primer complying with performance requirements of FS TT-P-664, selected for good resistance to normal atmospheric corrosion, compatibility with finish paint systems indicated, and capability to provide a sound foundation for field-applied topcoats despite prolonged exposure. B. Bituminous Paint: Cold-applied asphalt mastic complying with SSPC-Paint 12, except containing no asbestos fibers. 2.4 GROUT

Nonshrink, Nonmetallic Grout: Factory-packaged, nonstaining, noncorrosive, nongaseous grout complying with ASTM C Provide grout specifically recommended by manufacturer for interior and exterior applications. B. Available Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, products that may be incorporated in the Work include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Nonshrink, Nonmetallic Grouts: a. Sonogrout 14; Sonneborn Building Products--ChemRex, Inc. l. Kemset; The Spray-Cure Company. 2.5 CONCRETE FILL AND REINFORCING MATERIALS A. Concrete Materials and Properties: Comply with requirements of Division 3 Section "Cast-in-Place Concrete" for normal-weight, ready-mixed concrete with a minimum 28-day compressive strength of 2,500 psi (17 MPa), unless higher strengths indicated. B. Reinforcing Bars: ASTM A 615 (ASTM A 615M), Grade 60 (Grade 400), unless otherwise indicated. 2.6 FABRICATION, GENERAL A. Form steel stairs from materials of size, thickness, and shapes indicated, but not less than that needed to comply with performance requirements indicated. Work to dimensions indicated or accepted on shop drawings, using proven details of fabrication and support. B. Form exposed work true to line and level with accurate angles and surfaces and straight sharp edges. C. Shear and punch metals cleanly and accurately. D. Remove sharp or rough areas on exposed surfaces. E. Ease exposed edges to a radius of approximately 1/32 inch (1 mm), unless otherwise

21 indicated. Form bent-metal corners to smallest radius possible without causing grain separation or otherwise impairing work. F. Weld corners and seams continuously to comply with the following: 1. Use materials and methods that minimize distortion and develop strength and corrosion resistance of base metals. 2. Obtain fusion without undercut or overlap. 3. Remove welding flux immediately. 4. At exposed connections, finish exposed welds and surfaces smooth and blended so that no roughness shows after finishing, and welded surface matches contours of adjoining surfaces. G. Form exposed connections with hairline joints, flush and smooth, using concealed fasteners wherever possible. Use exposed fasteners of type indicated or, if not indicated, Phillips flat-head (countersunk) screws or bolts. Locate joints where least conspicuous. H. Shop Assembly: Preassemble in shop to greatest extent possible to minimize field splicing and assembly. Use connections that maintain structural value of joined pieces. Clearly mark units for field assembly and coordinated installation. I. Fabricate joints that will be exposed to weather in a manner to exclude water, or provide weep holes where water may accumulate. 2.7 STEEL-FRAMED STAIRS A. General: Construct stairs to conform to sizes and arrangements indicated. Join pieces together by welding, unless otherwise indicated. Provide complete stair assemblies, including metal framing, hangers, columns, handrails, railing systems, newels, balusters, struts, clips, brackets, bearing plates, or other components necessary for the support of stairs and platforms, and as required to anchor and contain the stairs on the supporting structure. 1. NAAMM Stair Standard: Comply with "Recommended Voluntary Minimum Standards for Fixed Metal Stairs" in NAAMM "Metal Stair Manual" for class of stair designated, except where more stringent requirements are indicated. a. Commercial class, unless otherwise indicated. B. Stair Framing: Fabricate stringers of structural steel channels, plates, or a combination thereof, as indicated. Provide closures for exposed ends of stringers. Construct platforms of structural steel channel headers and miscellaneous framing members as indicated. Bolt or weld headers to stringers; and bolt or weld newels and framing members to stringers and headers. If using bolts, fabricate and join so bolts are not exposed on finish surfaces. 1. Where masonry walls support steel stairs, provide temporary supporting struts designed for erecting steel stair components before installing masonry. C. Metal Pan Risers, Subtreads, and Subplatforms: Shape metal pans for risers and subtreads to conform to configuration shown. Provide thicknesses of structural steel sheet for metal pans indicated, but not less than that required, to support total design loading. 1. Form metal pans of uncoated hot-rolled steel sheet, unless otherwise indicated

22 2.8 FINISHES 2. Directly weld risers and subtreads to stringers; locate welds on side of metal pans to be concealed by concrete fill. 3. Shape metal pans to include nosing integral with riser. 4. Provide subplatforms of configuration and construction indicated; if not indicated, of same metal as risers and subtreads, in thicknesses required to support design loading. Attach subplatform to platform framing members with welds. A. General: Finish metal stairs after assembly. 1. Comply with NAAMM "Metal Finishes Manual" for recommendations on application and designations of finishes. B. Preparation for Shop Priming: Prepare uncoated ferrous metal surfaces to comply with minimum requirements indicated below for SSPC surface preparation specifications and environmental exposure conditions of installed units: 1. Interiors (SSPC Zone 1A): SSPC SP 3 "Power Tool Cleaning." C. Apply shop primer to uncoated surfaces, except those with galvanized finish or those to be embedded in concrete, sprayed-on fireproofing, or masonry, unless otherwise indicated. Comply with requirements of SSPC-PA 1 "Paint Application Specification No. 1" for shop painting. 1. Stripe paint corners, crevices, bolts, welds, and sharp edges. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 PREPARATION A. Coordinate and furnish anchorages, setting drawings, diagrams, templates, instructions, and directions for installing anchorages, including concrete inserts, weld plates, and anchor bolts. Coordinate delivery of such items to Project site. 3.2 INSTALLATION, GENERAL A. Fastening to In-Place Construction: Provide anchorage devices and fasteners where necessary for securing steel stairs to in-place construction; include threaded fasteners for concrete and masonry inserts, through-bolts, lag bolts, and other connectors as required. B. Cutting, Fitting, and Placement: Perform cutting, drilling, and fitting required for installing steel stairs. Set units accurately in location, alignment, and elevation; with edges and surfaces level, plumb, true, and free of rack; and measured from established lines and levels. C. Install steel stairs by welding stair framing to steel structure or to weld plates cast into concrete, except where otherwise indicated. D. Provide temporary bracing or anchors in formwork for items that are to be built into concrete, masonry, or similar construction. E. Fit exposed connections accurately together to form hairline joints. Weld connections that are not to be left as exposed joints but cannot be shop-welded because of shipping size

23 limitations. F. Field Welding: Comply with the following requirements: 1. Use materials and methods that minimize distortion and develop strength and corrosion resistance of base metals. 2. Obtain fusion without undercut or overlap. 3. Remove welding flux immediately. 4. At exposed connections, finish exposed welds and surfaces smooth and blended so that no roughness shows after finishing and welded surface matches contours of adjoining surfaces. 3.3 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING A. Touchup Painting: Immediately after erection, clean field welds, bolted connections, and abraded areas of shop paint, and paint exposed areas with same material as used for shop painting to comply with SSPC-PA 1 requirements for touching up field-painted surfaces. 1. Apply by brush or spray to provide a minimum dry film thickness of 2.0 mils (0.05 mm). END OF SECTION
