Section Sequence of Operations. 8. Section Testing, Adjusting and Balancing. 1.2 SUMMARY A. This Section includes the following: 1. UCP control variable-air-volume, hot water reheat terminal boxes 2. UCP control variable-air-volume terminal boxes 1.3 REFERENCES A. ARI 410 (Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute) - Forced-Circulation Air-Cooling and Air-Heating Coils. B. SMACNA (Sheet Metal Air Conditioning Contractors National Association) - HVAC Duct Construction Standards, Metal and Flexible. 1.4 SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: Include rated capacities; shipping, installed, and operating weights; furnished specialties; and accessories for each model indicated. Include a schedule showing drawing designation, room location, number furnished, model number, size, and accessories furnished. B. Shop Drawings: Detail equipment assemblies and indicate dimensions, weights, loadings, required clearances, method of field assembly, components, and location and size of each field connection. 1. Wiring Diagrams: Detail wiring for power, signal, and control systems and differentiate between manufacturer-installed and field-installed wiring. C. Coordination Drawings: Reflected ceiling plans drawn to scale and coordinating air outlets with other items installed in ceilings. D. Maintenance Data: List of parts for each type of air terminal and troubleshooting maintenance guide to include in the maintenance manuals. Page 1 of 5

2 1.5 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS A. Project Record Documents: Record actual locations of components and locations of access doors in radiation cabinets required for access to valves. B. Operation and Maintenance Data: Submit manufacturer s descriptive literature, operating instructions, installation instructions, maintenance and repair data, and parts listings. 1.6 QUALITY CONTROL A. Product Options: Drawings and schedules indicate requirements of air terminals and are based on specific systems indicated. Other manufacturers' systems with equal performance characteristics may be considered. Refer to Section "Substitutions." B. All air terminal boxes shall be rated in accordance with ARI Standard 880 and shall comply with the ARI Certified Ratings Program. C. All air terminal boxes shall bear the ARI Seal. D. All air terminal equipment insulation materials shall meet the requirements of NFPA 90A. E. Listing and Labeling: Provide electrically operated air terminals specified in this Section that are listed and labeled. 1. The Terms "Listed" and "Labeled": As defined in NFPA 70, Article Listing and Labeling Agency Qualifications: A "Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory" as defined in OSHA Regulation F. NFPA Compliance: Install air terminals according to NFPA 90A, "Standard for the Installation of Air Conditioning and Ventilating Systems." G. Comply with NFPA 70 for electrical components and installation. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. Available Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, manufacturers offering air terminals that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following: B. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide air terminals by one of the following: 1. York International. 2. Titus. 3. Kruegar 2.2 AIR TERMINAL BOXES - GENERAL A. All air terminal boxes shall be selected to provide pressure drops less than or equal to those listed on the drawings when operating at the scheduled air flow rates. Page 2 of 5

3 B. All air terminal boxes shall be selected to generate less noise than the values listed on the drawings when operating at air flow rates scheduled on the drawings and a total pressure drop of 1.5 inches w.g. (not including reheat coil). C. All reheat coils shall be selected to transfer at least the amount of heat scheduled when operated at the air and water flow rates listed with the entering air and water temperatures listed. D. The terminal boxes shall be suitable for maintaining minimum flow with inlet static pressure of up to 3 inches w.g. E. Provide engineering data prepared by the Terminal Box Manufacturer including minimum and maximum air flow rates, pressure drop, heat transfer and noise generation for each unit. All engineering data shall be ARI certified. F. All terminal boxes shall be provided for rooms with Direct Digital Control operators shall be provided with velocity sensing tubes for the primary air flows and with dampers. The BDDC Manufacturer is required to make arrangements with the Terminal Box Manufacturer for installation of controls and operators. Refer to Section "HVAC Instrumentation and Controls" for further requirements. H. The terminal boxes where scheduled shall be provided without insulation lining and shall be externally insulated or shall be provided with lining which is factory covered with a tedlar vinyl material to prevent erosion. I. The box casing shall be fabricated of 22-gauge minimum zinc coated sheet steel. The casing of the box shall be lined with 1-inch glass fiber conforming to NFPA-90A except as otherwise noted. The terminal box shall be provided with round primary air inlet connection and rectangular discharge suitable for flange type connection. J. The primary air control valve shall be internally mounted and shall consist of a single piece, flat oval damper valve providing shutoff to full open travel not exceeding 60 degrees. The damper valve shall be constructed of minimum 22-gauge zinc-coated steel. The damper valve shall be capable of sealing the primary inlet to limit leakage to 2% at 3 inches w.g. inlet static pressure. The damper shaft shall be continuous across the centerline of the damper valve (two piece, or end pivot shafts are not acceptable). The damper shaft shall pivot on lubrication free nylon bushings. The damper shaft shall extend outside the box casing and shall be driven by the actuator. K. Pitot tube type airflow sensing tubes of the automatic averaging type shall be provided in each box inlet. The same sensing tube shall also be used as balancing taps for field adjustment of the maximum and minimum primary air volumes. The balancing taps shall be used in conjunction with a flow chart on each box to permit readjustment of maximum and minimum primary air volumes if job conditions dictate. D. Discharge sound levels shall not exceed the NC value scheduled. Radiated sound levels shall not exceed the NC values scheduled. E. Where shown on the drawings, provide "Octopus" plenums with round outlets and individual balancing dampers where multiple outlets are employed. Page 3 of 5

4 2.4 UCP CONTROL VARIABLE-AIR-VOLUME, HOT WATER REHEAT TERMINAL BOXES A. Provide UCP controlled Variable-Air-Volume (VAV) terminal boxes with reheat for the room usage. B. Hot Water Reheat Coils shall be constructed of aluminum fins on 1/2-inch copper tubing mounted on the box. Refer to "Air Coils" Section, for further coil requirements. Refer to the reheat terminal schedule for capacity and performance requirements. C. VAV reheat boxes with UCP controls shall have controls provided by the BDDC Manufacturer. The BDDC Manufacturer shall coordinate field mounting the controls with the Terminal Box Manufacturer. The Terminal Box Manufacturer shall provide factory mounted brackets for field mounting the controls on the VAV Reheat boxes at the job site. Coordinate VAV reheat box controls with Section "HVAC Instrumentation and Controls. 2.7 UCP CONTROL VARIABLE-AIR-VOLUME TERMINAL BOXES A. Provide UCP controlled Variable-Air-Volume (VAV) terminal boxes for the rooms specified in the "Air Terminal Boxes - General" article in this Section. B. VAV boxes with UCP controls shall have controls provided by the BDDC Manufacturer. The BDDC Manufacturer shall coordinate field mounting the controls with the Terminal Box Manufacturer. The Terminal Box Manufacturer shall provide factory mounted brackets for field mounting the controls on the VAV boxes at the job site. Coordinate VAV box controls with Section "HVAC Instrumentation and Controls". 2.8 SOURCE QUALITY CONTROL A. Testing Requirements: Test and rate air terminals according to ARI 880, "Industry Standard for Air Terminals." B. Identification: Label each air terminal with plan number, nominal airflow, maximum and minimum factory-set airflows, coil type, and ARI certification seal. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 INSTALLATION A. Install air terminals level and plumb, according to manufacturer's written instructions, rough-in drawings, original design, and referenced standards; and maintain sufficient clearance for normal service and maintenance. B. Connect ductwork to air terminals according to Division 15 ductwork Sections. 3.2 CONNECTIONS A. Install piping adjacent to air terminals to allow service and maintenance. Page 4 of 5

5 B. Hot-Water Piping: In addition to requirements in Section 15181, Hydronic Piping, connect heating coils to supply with shutoff valve, strainer, control valve, and union or flange; and to return with balancing valve and union or flange. C. Electrical: Comply with applicable requirements in Division 16 Sections. D. Ground equipment. 1. Tighten electrical connectors and terminals according to manufacturer's published torque-tightening values. Where manufacturer's torque values are not indicated, use those specified in UL 486A and UL 486B. 3.3 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. Test and adjust controls and safeties. Replace damaged and malfunctioning controls and equipment. 3.4 CLEANING A. After completing system installation, including outlet fittings and devices, inspect exposed finish. Remove burrs, dirt, and construction debris, and repair damaged finishes. 3.5 COMMISSIONING A. Verify that installation of each air terminal is according to the Contract Documents. B. Check that inlet duct connections are as recommended by air terminal manufacturer to achieve proper performance. C. Check that controls and control enclosure are accessible. D. Verify that control connections are complete. E. Check that nameplate and identification tag are visible. F. Verify that controls respond to inputs as specified. 3.6 DEMONSTRATION A. Engage a factory-authorized service representative to train Owner's maintenance personnel as specified below: 1. Train Owner's maintenance personnel on procedures and schedules related to startup and shutdown, troubleshooting, servicing, and preventive maintenance. 2. Review data in the maintenance manuals. Refer to Section "Contract Closeout." 3. Review data in the maintenance manuals. Refer to Section "Operation and Maintenance Data." 4. Schedule training with Owner, with at least 7 days' advance notice. END OF SECTION Page 5 of 5
