3 to last, designed to save lives. New York City Local Law 26 How does it apply to your building? New York City Local Law 26, Reference Standard 6-1 and 6-1A, is a revision to the city s building code that requires all Class E commercial properties that are 75 feet or taller to retrofit their emergency evacuation stairwells with photoluminescent markings and signage on or before July 1, Class E commercial buildings are defined as a typical business occupancy group that consists of: Office buildings Banks Civic administration buildings Medical offices and more What must be marked to be NYC Local Law 26 compliant? The code outlines specific requirements for placement of photoluminescent signs and markings, including: Doors opening to exits or exit passageways Landings, perimeters, and individual stair steps located within exit passageways Obstacles and hazards located within exit passageways Directional guidance signs to vertical, horizontal, and final exits, plus Not an Exit door signs where applicable Handrails (not required for buildings with plans that were approved prior to July 1, 2006) Use this catalog as your one-stop guide to complete code compliance. We want to help you achieve code compliance quickly and easily, with products that will last for years. Everything you need for complete compliance with NYC Local Law 26 is included on the following pages, with guidelines to help you select the right products for your building. 4 BradyGlo Advanced Safety Guidance System: A complete selection of photoluminescent products. BradyGlo photoluminescent products are specifically engineered to give you the right configurations for code compliance, while offering fast, easy installation and unsurpassed durability. Our complete product line also includes both self-adhesive and aluminum-backed materials, to accommodate any building surface or application method. Pre-cut, L-shaped stair markers for stair edges High intensity tape for the leading edge of stairs or landings, handrails, perimeters, and door frames Directional safety guidance signs High intensity hazard tape for marking obstacles Safety guidance signs for not an exit, intermediate exit, and final exit doors Door hardware markers How to choose the right BradyGlo photoluminescent products for your building: Self-Sticking Adhesive Tapes and Signs (MEA # M) Self-sticking adhesive tapes are lightweight, conformable and easy to install. These products require a clean, smooth, dry, non-porous surface for proper adhesion. Smooth but irregular surfaces, such as painted, non-porous concrete, can be accommodated; however, the surface irregularities will be visible through these products once applied. Aluminum-Backed Products (MEA # M and MEA # M) Aluminum-backed rigid products are used with a separate construction adhesive that is applied on-site. These products are the best choice for rough and/or porous surfaces. Aluminum-backed products will give a flush appearance, can be shaped to conform to irregularities and, if needed, bridge gaps when applied to non-flat surfaces. Both self-adhesive products and aluminum-backed products may be required where surface conditions vary within a single installation. Anti-Slip Products (MEA # Applied For) NYC Local Law 26 does not specify minimum slip-resistance requirements for photoluminescent products installed on walking surfaces, but other building codes may have specific slip-resistance requirements. For added safety, we recommend using anti-slip products when marking the leading edge of landings and the leading edge of stair steps. Save time and money with BradyGlo EZ-Release and EZ-Dispense photoluminescent product packaging Brady s exclusive packaging and adhesive liners make BradyGlo photoluminescent products easier to use while reducing costly product waste. The EZ-Release liner simplifies the process of removing the liner from the tape just peel and apply for fast, easy installation. For BradyGlo pressure-sensitive adhesive photoluminescent products in roll form, the Brady EZ-Dispense packaging allows you to dispense as you go, in only the amount you need. This dispenser eliminates unwieldy spiraling of the rolls and saves time during installation. 4 For more information on BradyGlo photoluminescent products and our 6-year limited warranty, visit
