Steel hardware may be used in structures regulated under the IRC when the engineered design is submitted in accordance with IRC Section R PRODUCT DESCRIPTION 3.1 Product information BGLT Series: Hangers are fabricated from painted ¼ inch (6.4 mm) steel angle for the top flange and from No. 7 gauge (0.187 inch [4.5 mm]) steel plate that is 5 inch wide (127 mm) and formed into a U shape for the stirrup. The stirrup is welded to the top flange angle. Nails are required for the beam and the header connection. Table 1 of this report shows the model types, dimensions, fastener requirements, and allowable loads BHGLT Series: Hangers are fabricated from ¼ inch (6.35 mm) painted steel plate for the top flange, and from No. 7 gauge (0.187 inch [4.5 mm]) painted plate formed into a U shape for the stirrup. The stirrup is welded to the formed top flange. Nails are required for the beam and header connection. Table 3 of this report shows model types, dimensions, fastener requirements, and allowable loads BLEG, BMEG, and BEG Series: The top flange of the BLEG and BMEG hangers are fabricated from a painted No. 7 gauge [0.179 inch (4.5 mm)] steel plate and the BEG hanger is fabricated from painted ¼ inch (6.35 mm) steel plate. The stirrup is made from painted No. 7 gauge [0.179 inch (4.5 mm)] steel plates and formed into a U shape. The stirrup is welded to the top flange. These hangers require ¾ inch (19 mm) or 1 inch (25 mm) diameter machine throughbolts for the beam and header connections. Table 4 of this report shows the model types, dimensions, fastener requirements, and allowable loads BCC Series: The BCC series column caps connect wood beams to wood posts. The caps are fabricated from painted ¼ inch (6.4 mm) steel plate, formed into a channel and welded to two ¼ inch (6.4 mm) plate straps. Each strap is 2½ inch (63.5 mm) wide by 8½ inch (216 mm) long. The caps are fastened to both the beam and the post with ⅝inch or ¾ inch diameter (16 or 19 mm) machine bolts, depending on the connector size. The wood beam may be spliced at the top or continuous. Table 5 of this report shows the model types, dimensions, fastener requirements, and allowable loads BECC and BECCU Series: The BECC and BECCU series column caps are similar to the BCC caps except that they are designed to support a wood beam at an end span condition. 2 types, dimensions, fastener requirements, and allowable loads BCCQ Series: The BCCQ series column caps connect wood beams to wood posts. The caps are fabricated from 3/16 inch (4.5 mm) or ¼ inch (6.4 mm) painted steel, depending on the requested size of the cap. The cap is punched with 5/16 inch diameter (7.9 mm) holes for ¼ inch x 2½ inch (6.4 mm x 63.5 mm) USP WS Wood Screws (ICC ESR-2761) and formed into a channel. The 2½ inch x 8½ inch (63.5 mm x 216 mm) painted plate straps are also punched for ¼ inch (6.4 mm) diameter self-drilling screws and welded to the cap. Table 8 of this report shows the model types, dimensions, fastener requirements, and allowable loads BECCQ Series: The BECCQ series column caps are similar to the BCCQ caps except that they are designed to support a wood beam at an end condition. Table 9 of this report of this report shows the model types, dimensions, fastener requirements, and allowable loads. 3.2 Material Information Steel: BGLT, BHGLT, BGLTV, BHGLTV, BLEG, BMEG, BEG, BCC, BECC, BECCU, BCCQ, and BECCQ connectors described in this report are manufactured from steel as specified in Table 10 of this report. The uncoated steel thickness of cold-formed steel products described in this report shall not, at any location except the bents and corners, be less than 95 percent of the thickness reported. Contact with preservative-treated or fire-retardant-treated wood shall comply with IBC Section or IRC Section R319.3, as applicable. The report holder or lumber treater shall be contacted for recommendations on minimum corrosion resistance and capacities of connectors used with the specific proprietary preservative-treated or fire-retardant-treated lumber Nails, Bolts, and Screws: Nails used with the BowmanConnect LLC. products described in this report shall comply with ASTM F1667 and shall have the following minimum bending yield strengths (F yb): PENNEYWEIGHT, COMMON TYPE NAIL DIAMETER (inch) F yb (psi) 10d ,000 16d ,000 20d ,000 60d ,000 For SI: 1 inch = 25.4 mm, 1 psi=6.89 kpa. Bolts used with the BowmanConnect LLC. products described in this report shall comply with ANSI/AISI B and SAE J429, and shall have a minimum bending yield strength (F yb) of 45,000 psi (310 MPa). Screws shall be manufactured from ASTM A510, grade 1022 steel, and shall have a minimum bending yield strength (F yb) of 180,000 psi (1240 MPa). Fasteners used in contact with fire-retardant-treated or preservative-treated lumber shall comply with IBC Section or the 2009 IRC Section R317.3 (2006 IRC Section R319.3), as applicable. The report holder or lumber treater shall be contacted for recommendations on minimum corrosion resistance and connection capacities of fasteners used with the specific proprietary preservative-treated or fireretardant treated lumber Wood: The wood members with which the connectors are used shall be sawn lumber shall have a minimum specific gravity of 0.50 and a maximum moisture content of 19 percent or engineered lumber having a minimum equivalent specified gravity of 0.50 and maximum moisture content of 16 percent. The thickness (depth) of the wood main member shall be equal to or greater than the length of the fasteners specified in the report tables. 4.0 DESIGN AND INSTALLATION 4.1 Design The tabulated allowable loads shown in this report are based on allowable stress design (ASD) and include the load duration factor C D corresponding with the applicable loads in accordance with the IBC and ANSI/AWC NDS. The maximum adjusted load shall not exceed the design load shown in the tables. Tabulated allowable loads apply to products connected to wood members used in dry conditions with a maximum moisture content of 19 percent (16 percent for engineered wood products), and where sustained temperatures do not exceed 100 degrees F (37.8 degrees C). When products are installed to wood having moisture content greater than listed above, or where wet set service is expected, the allowable loads shall be adjusted by the wet service factor C M as specified in the ANSI/AWC NDS. When connectors are installed in members that experience sustained exposure to temperatures exceeding 100 degrees F (37.8 degrees C), the allowable load shall be adjusted by the temperature factor C t as specified in the ANSI/AWC NDS. ANSI TPI 1 shall be used for design and installation guidance where tension-perpendicular-to-grain loading is encountered. 4.2 Installation General installation shall be in accordance with the codes in Section 1.1 of this report, this report, and the manufacturer s Page 2 of 13

3 installation instructions. A copy of the instructions shall be available at the jobsite continuously during installation. Where conflicts occur, the more restrictive governs. The products in the report shall be installed properly and used in accordance with the installation instructions and design limits in this report. In order to obtain the tabulated allowable loads in this report, all fasteners specified in the tables shall be properly installed. 4.3 Special Inspection Periodic special inspection shall be conducted when the product series are components within the main wind-forceresisting system of structures constructed in areas listed in the 2009 IBC Section (Section for the 2006 IBC). Special inspection requirements do not apply to structures, or portions thereof, that qualify for exception under the 2009 IBC Section , , or (Section and for the 2006 IBC). Periodic special inspection shall be conducted in accordance with the applicable sections of IBC Section 1707 when the product series are components within the seismic-forceresisting system of structures constructed in Seismic Design Category C, D, E or F. Special inspection requirements do not apply to structures, or portions thereof, that qualify for exception under IBC Sections , , , or Section of the 2009 IBC. For installations under the IRC, special inspection is not normally required. However, for an engineered design where calculations are required to be signed by a registered design professional, periodic special inspection requirements and exemptions are as stated in Sections and of this report as applicable for installations under the IRC. 5.0 LIMITATIONS The Bowman Connect LLC products described in this report are in compliance with, or are acceptable alternative to what is specified in those codes listed in Section 1.0 of this report subject to the following conditions: 5.1 Adjusted factors for conditions noted in Section 4.1 of this report and applicable codes shall be considered and applied to the allowable loads. 5.2 All fasteners and connected wood members shall comply with Section and of this report. 5.4 Design loads determined by a registered design professional shall not exceed the allowable loads indicated in Tables 1 to 9 of this report. 6.0 SUBSTANTIATING DATA Testing and analysis data submitted in conformance with IAMPO ES Evaluation Criteria EC Test results are from laboratories in compliance with ISO/IEC IDENTIFICATION The products described in this report shall be identified with a label indicating the name and address of the manufacturer (Bowman Connect LLC.), the model number, the date of manufacture, the work order number, the customers purchase order number, IAPMO Uniform ES Marks of Conformity, and Evaluation Report number (ER-237), which identifies the products recognized in the report.
