1 Certificate No: EW496A Earthwool DriTherm Cavity Slab Description of Product Earthwool DriTherm Cavity Slabs are semi-rigid or rigid slabs of non-combustible, water repellent, glass mineral wool used for the thermal insulation of masonry cavity external walls and are designed to fully or partially fill the cavity. Photo/isometric drawing provided by manufacturer Key Factors Assessed Safety in case of Fire Health, Hygiene and Environmental - Approved Document C Safety in Use - Approved Document A Energy Economy and heat retention - Approved Document L Durability serviceability and identification Validity This certificate was first issued on 10 th March 2015 and is valid until 10 th March 2016 Issue Dated 10 th March 2015

2 This assessment relates to the use of KNAUF INSULATION EARTHWOOL DRITHERM CAVITY SLAB in external masonry cavity walls. Refer to Insulation Manual Section and for description, use and typical construction details. Earthwool DriTherm Cavity Slabs are classified as Euroclass A1 to BS EN The requirements of the Building Regulations relating to fire spread in cavity walls, can be met in buildings of all purpose groups without the need for cavity barriers, provided the construction complies with the provisions detailed in Approved Document B Volume 1 - Diagram 13, and Approved Document B Volume 2 - Diagram 34. Cavity trays are required over lintels and above insulation that stops short of the top of the wall. Earthwool DriTherm Cavity Slabs offer negligible resistance to the passage of water vapour. When installed in close proximity to flues/heat producing appliances follow the relevant provisions of Approved Document J. Earthwool DriTherm Cavity Slabs have thermal conductivities ranging from to W/mK. Example U-value calculations have been provided to demonstrate typical construction to achieve 0.30 W/ m2k limiting fabric parameter and 0.18 W/ m2k for concurrent notional dwelling in Approved Document L1A. The products must be installed in accordance with the Knauf Insulation installation instructions. They are approved for use in buildings up to 12m high in any exposure zone. They may also be used in multi-storey applications up to 25m in height, subject to specialist direction and supervision from Knauf Insulation to include provision for horizontal cavity trays and weep holes. Minimum clear cavity widths apply for partial fill use; 25mm up to 12m height and 50mm wide up to and including 25m. For New Housing, the Warranty provider should be consulted if a clear cavity less than 50mm is proposed.
