Manufacturing using recycled products allows the recirculation of our own waste products minimising production waste. 100% recyclable All Sudspave pavers are fully recyclable thereby minimising future impact on the environment. Effect on the environment Sudspave pavers are inert, harmless to the environment and have no effect on water quality. Durability Sudspave pavers are resistant to many common pollutants including acids, liquors, ammonia, acid rains and alcohols. Water permeability A surface reinforced with the Sudspave is practically 100% water permeable. Sudspave can be used as a source control technique as part of a SuDS scheme. Rainwater permeates through the system to the underlying stone layers where it is either infiltrated into the underlying soils or attenuated to be discharged at a controlled rate to local rivers or sewers. Living surface Using Sudspave allows the creation of durable green areas. In urban environments the creation of green space has a positive influence on moisture, regulates air flow, dampens acoustic waves, and filters the air. Biologically active surface After planting grass, Sudspave can be treated as a biologically active surface. 2

3 Sudspave Sudspave is a system of interlocking cellular paving units designed for the stabilisation of trafficked grass or gravel surfaces. Suitable applications include car parks, emergency and maintenance vehicle access roads, cycle paths and pedestrian areas. Sudspave offers a cost-effective, robust and aesthetic solution for many applications where gravel retention or grass reinforcement is required and where source-control of surface water forms part of a Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) design. Designed to be installed onto a stone sub-base construction incorporating Geogrids to minimise material and construction costs, the paving units may also be considered for reduced-dig applications where the depth of excavation has been limited due to archeological or SSSI concerns, or in tree-root protection zones. To aid rapid installation, four individual Sudspave units form a pre-connected 1m² section and the paving system clips and locks together to provide a continuous integral surface which is able to resist deformation and dislocation. The paving units can be filled with either an angular gravel for a hard wearing surface or with a formulated growing medium into which grass seed is sown to provide a vegetated finish suitable for occasional trafficking. 8 Installing Sudspave Once installed Sudspave forms one large slab over the whole area, this ensures even load distribution, which creates stability and durability when trafficked. 9 1 Mark the surface shape using pins and string. 2 Remove the soil to an appropriate depth - depending on the final finish and expected loads. 3 Level the surface and compact it mechanically. 4 Fill in the specified sub-base layer to the specified level, and then level and compact it with a compactor. 5 Place bedding layer over the load bearing layer and distribute evenly 6 Place the grids in rows, connect using the connection mechanism (a rubber hammer can be used). 7 Level the grid layer using a compactor or lightweight roller. 8 Fill out the grids with aggregate or a specified growing media and seed mix for a grassed finish. Typical sub-base depths Pedestrian/cycle 100mm Passenger cars mm Trucks mm Fire access routes mm Information for guidance only. Advice on specific application sub-base requirements is available from ABG. The use of a geogrid can reduce the required sub-base thickness. This installation information is for guidance only. Full specification and installation guidance is available from ABG Ltd and should be obtained prior to installation commencing. 9

10 Truckcell Truckcell is a heavy-duty cellular paving system designed for intensive usage and high-load traffic applications. The cells can be filled with topsoil and seeded or with gravel to provide a robust structural surface. Truckcell is manufactured from 100% recycled plastic and is strong enough to withstand trafficking from vehicles with high wheel loadings such as trucks, buses, fire appliances and refuse vehicles, making it suitable for applications such as HGV parking and access roads, fork-lift loading areas, car and coach parks and emergency vehicle access routes. Ecobloc EcoBloc flex is a cellular system designed to form underground voids allowing the infiltration, detention, retention or harvesting of rainwater collected as part of SuDS scheme. The modular concept allows the system size and bearing capacity to be tailored to suit site specific requirements in both trafficked and non-trafficked areas. Designed correctly EcoBloc flex has the capacity for a heavyduty lorry bearing capacity of up to 60 tons with as little as 800mm earth covering. Even under very heavy loads the EcoBloc flex system can be installed at a depth of up to 5 metres, this means that up to 14 layers are possible. Fildrain ABG drainage geocomposites offer high performance cost effective alternatives to traditional stone groundwater drainage solutions. Drainage geocomposites offer very high flow capacity, many times that of traditional crushed stone (specific data is available), this is achieved through the unique open structure created by the cuspated construction which allowsunhindered water flow through the core. Geotextiles ensure that fines do not enter the flow void minimising the occurrence of blockages and allowing continuity of flow. Erosion control ABG offer a broad range of erosion control products that includes biodegradable and non-biodegradable erosion control mats, They can help with the surface protection of many elements within the SuDS scheme including swales, channels, ponds and attenuation basins. Silt laden run-off from exposed soil slopes is a major concern for the Environment Agency who consider it a pollutant; erosion control systems help ensure the environment is protected throughout the life of the project from construction to establishment of the vegetation. 10

11 About ABG ABG is a market leader in the design, development, manufacture and technical support of high performance geosynthetic systems for use in a wide range of applications within the built environment. Formed in 1988, based in Meltham, in the heart of the Pennines, ABG have developed an excellent reputation for developing quality products and delivering outstanding service. The ability for rapid product development ensures that the most innovative, up to date and cost effective solution can be found for many sustainable construction problems. ABG s involvement in sustainable drainage systems goes back over twenty five years with the development of innovative drainage products that directly replace the requirement for stone. We have wide engineering expertise coupled with a complete range of geosynthetic products developed specifically for use in this technically demanding application. Technical support is provided by our trained and experienced staff, many of whom are Chartered Civil Engineers. This extensive support extends to full design, design validation, feasibility studies, cost advice and advice on meeting regulatory requirements. Part of this technical support includes developing and driving knowledge within our active markets including working with both international and local regulatory bodies on developing guidance and best practice in the use of innovative geosynthetics to solve complex engineering issues. A full installation and maintenance service for many ABG systems is available through our in-house installation business, Geogreen solutions. 11
