2 Monday, October 20, 2014 Session International Building Code Overview Explores the major provisions of the 2012 International Building Code. The presentation will include discussions of the provisions addressing the following issues: occupancy classification, types of construction, means of egress, fire sprinklers and fire -resistive-rated construction, administrative provisions and accessibility. This class is designed to provide an introduction to the general provision of the code. Bring the 2006 & 2012 IRC. Session International Mechanical Code This one-day class covers the requirements for ventilation, exhaust systems, duct systems, combustion air, boilers, and refrigeration in the 2012 International Mechanical Code. Also included will be fuel gas pipe sizing. Students should bring the 2012 International Mechanical Code in order to participate in the practical exercises on commercial kitchen hood exhaust systems and combustion air sizing. The presentation will include detailed discussions on the design of the means of egress in buildings. Subjects included in the class are the three parts of the mean s of egress including occupant loads, egress width, number of exits, travel distance, common path of egress travel and exit enclosures. Practical examples will be used to illustrate code requirements. Bring the 2006 & 2012 IRC. Session International Plumbing Code This class provides and in depth look at the provisions of the 2012 International Plumbing Code and has been created to assist field inspectors and plans examiners in understanding the provisions found in this code. Discussion will include: changes between the 2009 and 2012 IPC, drain waste and vent systems including pipe sizing and installation, indirect waste piping, chemical waste, vent sizing to include common vents, island fixture venting, combination drain and vent systems, waste stack vents and wet venting. Additionally, water distribution systems will be discussed in depth including pipe sizing methods, installation requirements and backflow protection. Experience Level: All CEU s:.7 Instructor: Larry Stump Session 203/303 Commercial Electrical Inspections - Two Day Class The class is based upon the 2011 National Electrical Code however; much of the time of this two day seminar will be focused on actual installations that are set up in the class room. Switch gear, transformers, services, wiring methods in multiple configurations will be used to illustrate not only what is wrong with an installation, but what is right. Blue prints will be provided at each station so class members can "inspect" the installation for conformance with the plans and code. Commercial and Residential systems shall be represented, co-sponsored by International Electrical Contractors Association and The International Association of Electrical Inspectors. Electronic copies of the plans will be available before the class and should be reviewed before class begins. Bring the 2006 & 2012 IBC. Session 302 ADA for Existing Buildings Many of the permits issued by building departments each day are for remodeling existing business spaces. Once a tenant moves out, the next tenant has "accessibility obligations" to be complied with when altering the space. The ADA "new construction standards" do not always apply to "alterations". These alteration criteria will be discussed along with Barrier Removal, Path of Travel obligations, exceptions to the basic rules of the ADA Standards, directional signage, non-complying restrooms, existing site conditions, non-complying pedestrian routes and entrances, and how to resolve these issues. The drop houses are usually rented properties where coyotes, or human smugglers, stash immigrants while awaiting payments. These properties can range from actual houses or apartments and are not limited to any one geographic area of the state. Learn how to be aware of these types of properties. The seminar focuses on the fundamental requirements on an existing structure that undergoes repair work, alteration, renovation activity or construction of an addition, and the effect of a change in the building's occupancy classification. Discussion will also include the "Performance Compliance Alternatives" method of evaluating a building. Session 502 Building Disasters This class is an overview of building disasters which have shaped our building and fire codes. Catastrophic events were selected from buildings which have suffered major loss of life or property, both of which impact the local communities as well as national codes. We will also look at how fire testing has progressed due to scientific and technological advancements, evolving from fire experience to fire

7 modeling and prediction. Each building has left its signature on those concerned with fire and building safety by the impact they have had on how we design and protect buildings today. Class is for designers, fire and building code enforcement personnel who would like an historical and practical look at changes in building safety.
