5 Introduction Thank you for your purchase of STAAD Foundation Advanced. STAAD Foundation Advanced is an exhaustive analysis, design, and drafting solution for a variety of foundations. These include general foundation types such as isolated, combined footings, mat foundations, pile caps, slab on grade, and slab on piles as well as plant foundation such as vertical vessel and heat exchanger foundations. A part of the STAAD family of products, STAAD Foundation Advanced can automatically import and update the geometry, loads, and reactions from a STAAD.Pro model and then accurately design isolated, pile cap, combined footing, mat foundations, and even perform pile arrangements for a pile cap. Spreadsheet data (e.g., such as that in Microsoft Office Excel) can be copied and then pasted in STAAD Foundation Advanced, increasing the efficiency and versatility of the program. STAAD Foundation Advanced not only analyzes and designs a myriad of foundation configurations, but will also produce production quality reports and detailed 3D rendering of your foundation structures. It also produces site-ready construction documents such as: detail drawings, general arrangement drawings, and schedule drawings. With full OpenGL graphics, engineers can clearly see the displaced shape, stress distribution, reinforcement layout, and force diagrams of their supporting structure. All models use physical objects including physical beams, physical slabs, automatic meshing, load distributions, and support generation. STAAD Foundation Advanced designs the physical slabs rather than individual elements. For mat foundation designs, STAAD Foundation Advanced utilizes a true finite element design using the individual element stresses rather than using column strips. STAAD Foundation Advanced can be used in a stand-alone mode or can be used in conjunction with STAAD.Pro where the support reactions from the main model and associated load cases are automatically brought in. Because STAAD Foundation Advanced provides a total solution for your foundation needs, a built-in project management system enables line and span of control, revision records and multi-job functionalities. This helps you reduce cost in assembling the technical and managerial information for your foundation. Full step-by-step calculations are also provided in XML form to verify each and every output provided by the program. These verification checks can be easily shared with your clients for approval. Also, the calculation sheets can be customized according user specification and entire foundation reporting can be standardized. We hope you enjoy your experience with STAAD Foundation Advanced. If you have any questions or problems with the program, please visit our product page at Staad.foundation. STAAD Foundation Advanced v Release Report

7 V8i (SELECTseries 3) (Release 7.0) 1 The following list provides describes new or enhanced features of STAAD Foundation Advanced since V8i (SELECTseries 2) (Release 6.2). 1.1 General Program These features have been added or enhanced in the general program in STAAD Foundation Advanced v7. New File Format Starting with v7, STAAD Foundation Advanced uses a new file format and file extension (.afs). This file format uses a more compact database method, resulting in smaller file sizes. AFS Converter A file converter utility is included with STAAD Foundation Advanced v7. This file is used to convert legacy STAAD.foundation or STAAD Foundation Advanced files (file extension.sfa) to the current file format. It is opened automatically if a legacy file is opened in the product, or it can be run separately by selecting the Converter tool found on the Home tab. An individual file or folder with multiple files can be converted. STAAD Foundation Advanced 7 Release Report

8 V8i (SELECTseries 3) (Release 7.0) General Mode Updated Start Page The Start Page has been updated to make it even easier to start a General, Plant Mode, or Toolkit Mode foundation project or to find news or assistance in using STAAD Foundation Advanced. 9 V8i (SELECTseries 3) (Release 7.0) General Mode 1.2 General Mode The following features have been added to the General foundation mode in STAAD Foundation Advanced v7. Machine Foundation Wizard STAAD Foundation Advanced v7 can parametrically create, analyze, and design foundations for vibratory machinery per ACI 351.3R-04 using a new wizard feature. The program uses the STAAD.Pro engine for dynamic analysis and produces state-of-the-art reporting with dynamic graphs embedded in the calculation sheet. Rotating and reciprocating machinery is common in production plant facilities and these devices typically require uninterrupted use. Downtime in these heavy machines can be very costly and thus designing machine foundations within permissible operating limits of this type of machinery is critical. These machines cause dynamic forces and vibrations and excessive vibrations are detrimental to the machinery, supporting foundations, and any operating personnel. The STAAD Foundation Advanced vibrating machine feature is capable of taking values provided by mechanical and geotechnical engineers for machine loads and soil parameters, respectively. Alternately, machine load and soil spring properties can be calculated based on the equations provided in ACI 351.3R-04. Single, combined, and combined with gearbox block foundation configurations can be designed using the wizard. A dynamic analysis is performed with analysis parameters specified by the engineer using the STAAD.Pro analysis engine. Reporting STAAD Foundation Advanced v7 includes state-of-the-art reporting for vibrating machine foundations in the calculations sheet. Along with repeating the input values (for validation), detailed calculations for load generation, soil spring generation, mode shape results, frequency check, and vibration amplitude check per ACI 351.3R-04. The calculated values for supported machinery are plotted on ACI 351.3R-04 Figures 3.9, 3.10, and 3.11 in the calculations. STAAD Foundation Advanced 9 Release Report
