1 Backsplash Backsplash is a very cmmn thing t have n many cuntertps. We like backsplash as it adds t a cuntertp cst shuld be easy mney as there isn t much t it. Hwever easy it is we are always making it mre difficult fr urselves. Backsplash can be gruped int three types that are made here at Wilbedne. One is lse splash (figure 1.1). Lse plash is just, that backsplash that is nt attached nr is it abutting t either a cabinet r raised tp. Nrmally it is finished n tp and either end based n the jb. Lse splash is ur mst cmmn type f splash we make. figure 1.1 Tw is cved backsplash (figure 1.2). Cved backsplash is in ur slid surface line nly. It is an integral part f the cuntertp. It is attached with a plastic weld t the cuntertp making it part f the cuntertp. figure 1.2 Three is full height backsplash (figure 1.3). Full height backsplash is backsplash that cvers the wall. It nrmally ges frm the cuntertp t sme bstructin (like a cabinet r raised tp). It is nt nrmally finished n the tp as that edge will be unseen. Full

2 height splash will mst always have cututs fr electrical utlets. This is by far the mst difficult backsplash that we make here. It is als the mst expensive. Full height splash can cst the same as the cuntertp as it may cntain the same square ftage as the cuntertp itself. It als can be cved in ur slid surface cuntertps. It nearly always is templated afterwards t make sure ur material is cut t fit. It als is ur mst prblematic backsplash we make. figure 1.3 We have had cnsistent prblems with backsplash measurements. We have gne ver the ways we measure backsplash and ur measurement prblems. We have cme up with sme changes that shuld make measuring and installing backsplash much easier and reduce the amunt f errrs assciated with backsplash. I will run thrugh the measurement issues and explain hw t measure: Lse backsplash will be measured as fllws: When n bstructin (windw, electrical utlet, raised tp and ect) the nminal height wuld be 4 high. This is ur standard height fr backsplash (figure 1.4). 4 standard if there is n bstructin. figure 1.4

3 When there is an bstructin like an utlet r widw sill, we will nt butt up tight t the bstructin. The clearance will be 1 between the backsplash and the bttm f the plate r sill. This measurement will be taken frm the lwest plate r sill (figure 1.5). Clearance f 1 between tp pf backsplash and bttm f plate. figure 1.5 If the bstructin is assciated with either a paint line r wallpaper, the distance will be enugh t cver the paint r wallpaper but still leaving a gap between plate r sill and the tp f the backsplash (figure 1.6). Clearance frm backsplash t plate r sill must be maintained. figure 1.6 If backsplash is t intrude an utlet, the backsplash must g abve the utlet by 1 ver tallest plate. This type f applicatin will have changes t sill. The sill backsplash will nw butt up t bttm f sill with clearance f 1/8 and have a seam n bth sides f sill.

4 Maintain 1 abve utlet and cut splash bth sides f sill. It will then fit flush t bttm f sill. figure 1.7 If backsplash is t butt up t a raised tp and run alng a wall the prcess is as fllws. The backsplash will be measured t the raised tp as full height backsplash. The wall splash will be set t the standards set abve. Leaving clearance fr any utlets and sills. Measure the backsplash fr the jb at time f template (figure 1.8) /8 figure 1.8 Full height backsplash will be measured as fllws: Full height backsplash is special in that it isn t cut till after the base cuntertp has been installed. Full height backsplash must fit with in the tlerances that the manufacture states. This is a 1/8 gap between the fixed bstructin (upper cabinet) and tp f backsplash. T get this that accurate full height backsplash will nrmally be measured at time f install. The install team will make accurate templates fr the backsplash. Templates will be prcessed in CAD and fabricated in the shp t thse measurements. This des nt mean that full height splash will nt need t be dcumented and a rugh measurement taken. It just means till we have the cuntertp in place the crrect cutting

5 lcatin will nt be knwn. Yu are respnsible t make a rugh drawing s we can requte the splash int the preliminary requte. Talk ver with the custmer as t seam lcatins, issues and thickness during template. Things such as utlets must be charged and an accurate cunt will be needed. Als discuss the gap that will be present when the install has been prefrmed. This gap may be filled with caulk. 1/8 Gap Finished edge Outlets
