II.2.4) Description of the procurement 1999/386/EML/COM/18 Composite Ready CNC Lathe The University of Sheffield wishes to invite tenders for a composite capable lathe on behalf of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, Composites Machining Group at Catcliffe, South Yorkshire. Scope of Requirement: The Composite Machining Group, are tendering for the supply, installation and commissioning of a composite capable lathe with multi-axis milling ability suitable for both wet and dry CNC turning / milling of primarily composite materials as well as capability in metal materials for mould tool applications. The equipment will support the AMRC s Composite Centre fundamental research into technologies such as machinability, dynamics and process monitoring of composite / metallic cylindrical parts. The equipment should have adequate robustness, high precision and repeatability to facilitate the manufacture of high performance aerospace, automotive and similar parts with demanding tolerance requirements. The equipment should have adequate robustness, high precision and repeatability to facilitate the manufacture of high performance aerospace components demanding tolerance requirements. Machine should allow machining in wet, MQL as well as dry cutting environments. The machine should have at least simultaneous 4 axes of motion X-Z-Y-C or 5 axes with the X-Z-Y-C-B axis or similar comparable configuration. The machine should be able to drill in the vertical / horizontal plane and angular increments between planes. It is planned to have the machine with extraction system, however, if it exceeds the budget limit it can be considered as optional. The AMRC Composite Centre in the future may wish to install a dedicate extraction system for the machine. The supplier is required to commit technical support in this installation and warranty cover.
