Backed by a limited lifetime warranty, this low maintenance fiberglass column is created with correct entasis and classically proportioned capitals and bases to provide a lifetime of classic beauty. Aerospace filament winding technology allows high impact resistance and very high load bearing capacities to be achieved without excessive weight. 5 FRP Classic /MEL BuyLine 9745 Fiberglass Columns & Cornices FRP Classic Fiberglass Columns and Cornices FRP Classic Fiberglass Column Covers are a beautiful architectural feature with which to cover structural steel, ductwork or plumbing. Manufactured in halves for reassembly, these low maintenance columns are offered with either overlap, reveal, butt or tape joints for flexibility and ease of installation. FRP Classic columns are manufactured with the finest fire rated materials to achieve an ASTM E flame spread and low smoke density. Available in classical contemporary, or custom designs, these low maintenance architectural columns may be supplied with a smooth or textured surface. Columns are available from our extensive stock of standard mold designs with plain or fluted shafts in tapered or non-tapered designs in diameters from 10 to 60 and in heights to 35 feet. Square columns and pilasters are also available. FRP Classic Cornices are the ideal way to create dramatic large cornice profiles and are light weight and easily installed. These durable classically proportioned columns are created with full depth ionic flutes to create the elegant vertical shadowing effects which have enhanced the beauty of fine architecture for centuries. FiberFlute Classic columns are load bearing, but can be provided manufactured halves for reassembly around structural supports. Columns manufactured in halves are provided with an overlapping joint detail to facilitate realignment and rejoining of the column halves. 10 Classic Architectural Wood Columns 10 Classic Architectural Wood ColumnS In keeping with the Classic Orders of Architecture as recorded in the late 1500 s by the renowned Renaissance architect, Vignola, Melton Classics proudly presents its complete line of architecturally correct wood columns. Available in matching round, square, or pilaster configurations, every element of the column, from the proportions and bowed taper (entasis) of the shaft to the fluting and carefully sculpted detail of the capital, is specifically crafted to carry on the timeless beauty and unmistaken authenticity of a true Architectural Column. Additionally, contemporary and custom designs are available upon special request. Construction Each Classic Column shaft is constructed of the finest clear wood available as called for in the specification. The staves are glued with Type I industrial grade G2 epoxy, bound under pressure and allowed to cure for at least 24 hours. The rough column shaft is then precision turned with correct entasis using stateof-the-art equipment combined with the hands-on expertise of woodworking artisans. Each shaft is hand finished, primed and carefully inspected before shipping to assure consistent quality. Shafts designated for exterior use are coated with asphaltum on the inside for waterproofing. Classic Column shafts may be specified either plain or fluted and are completely load bearing. For load test data, plan types and other technical data, please see our website. Materials Column shafts for exterior use are available in Clear All Heart Redwood, Western Red Cedar, pine, and a variety of other clear western wood species. Staves for column shafts are available in both solid or fingerjointed construction. For interior application, pine, poplar, mahogany, cherry, oak or virtually any commercially available wood species may be specified. Capitals, Bases and Plinths For exterior use, Tuscan and Roman Doric capitals, bases and plinths are available in load bearing fiberglass or wood. Cast aluminum plinths are recommended for use with wood bases. For interior applications, wood to match column shafts is available. Installation/Finishing/Storage Detailed installation instructions are provided. Care must be taken to ensure ventilation of the column shaft. Melton Classics accepts no responsibility for columns improperly ventilated or installed. Two coats of high-quality oil-based paint should be applied to all exterior surfaces immediately following installation.
