A traditional cover in practice is difficult to install correctly, resulting in a nonair and water tight installation. ACO EuroCover combines austenitic stainless steel and polyester resin concrete to produce a rigid, reliable, air and watertight installation. Available in a wide range of sizes and suited to medium or heavy duty applications, ACO EuroCover accommodates a wide range of floor finishes. When used with ACO Building Drainage Vinyl Seal vinyl sheet flooring can be fitted easily without the need for cumbersome clamping mechanisms, reducing potential bug traps significantly. Typical applications include: Kitchens Food and drink processing plants Abattoirs Hospitals Chemical and pharmaceutical plants Commercial premises Leisure centres 3

6 INSTALLATION GUIDELINES Installation procedure General Allow sufficient time for mortars and concrete to reach required minimum compressive strength. Step 1 Ensure the supporting structure and / or the ground conditions are adequate to support the expected operating service load. The frame assembly must be continuously supported along its entire length and width on a mortar of minimum compressive strength 30N/mm 2 to a minimum depth of 10mm. Position the top edge of the rigid frame assembly so that it is level with the finished floor, or at a maximum of 1.mm below the finished floor. Step 2 Backfill around the ACO EuroCover, and, if using ACO Building Drainage Vinyl Seal with sheet flooring refer to the installation details overleaf. A mastic sealant of bead width -8mm is recommended to the edge of the ACO EuroCover to ensure a watertight seal. Step 3 Place the recessed cover on a level and flat surface and fill with a suitable 10mm aggregate concrete infill of minimum compressive strength of 40N/mm 2. To accommodate various floor finishes the cover may be filled to within 12mm of the finished floor level. Step 4 Ensure the double seal gasket is clean and in position. Lift the complete recessed cover into place using supplied lifting keys and appropriate lifting apparatus; depending on size and infill material the complete cover may exceed Health and Safety Regulation lifting recommendations. Lubricate and insert all 4 fixings, locating each positively before tightening. Fasten down the cover until resistance is felt, observing the following sequence: top left hand, bottom right hand, bottom left hand, top right hand. Finally tighten a further one quarter turn. Step Insert supplied grit seal between the recess cover and frame. 7 INSTALLATION GUIDELINES ACO Building Drainage Vinyl Seal Step 1 Ensure the assembled rigid and flexible Vinyl Seal sits square and horizontal in the ACO EuroCover edge detail. Step 2 Install the ACO EuroCover into the ground ensuring that the flooring screed is flush to the top edge of the rigid PVC extrusion. Protect the ACO EuroCover and seal assembly from splashes of concrete/screed. Step 3 Depending upon the installation, additional suitable fixings may be required to secure the rigid extrusion to the floor substrate. If this should be required, separately drill and countersink the rigid extrusion making sure that all fixings are finished flush with the top of the extrusion. Step 4 Grout any voids at connecting rigid PVC joints at mitred corners, straight joints or fixings, to ensure a continuous supported floor finish. Prior to laying the vinyl sheet flooring, peel the protective film from the rigid extrusion (a knife may be required to cut the film adjacent to the flexible seal) and ensure all surfaces are clean and dry. Apply a compatible adhesive also to the top surface of the rigid PVC extrusion, for example, Altrofix 19 two-part water resistant eurethane adhesive, taking care not to apply adhesive to the flexible seal. Lay the sheet flooring against the flexible seal edge and prepare the welded joint between the flexible seal and vinyl sheet flooring as normal by scoring the sheet / seal joint to approximately half the depth of the sheet flooring thickness. Either in-colour or black welding filler rod may be used to weld the joint. Remove surplus weld material from the joint using a spatula when the welded joint has cooled. Channel Edge Flexible seal Heat welded joint (Patent applied for) Vinyl sheet flooring (2-4mm thick) Floor adhesive Rigid seal extrusion Operation and Maintenance For general maintenance and cleaning of stainless steel refer to ACO Building Drainage Eurogully or Modular channel catalogues. To remove the recessed cover remove the push fit grit seal, then undo hexagonal cap screws. Undo gradually observing the sequence in step 4 of installation instructions. Insert lifting key fully into the cover at two or more points. Lift with appropriate apparatus. To replace the cover follow step 4 of installation instructions. NBS Specification Clause Reference For relevant NBS specification, refer to NBS Section P31 holes/chases/covers/support for services, Clause 370 access covers/gratings and insert the appropriate model reference number. 7
