4 ACO ShowerDrain ACO ShowerDrain planning information One of the most important decisions taken for threshold-free shower areas is how to design the drainage. Not only from an aesthetical point of view, but also technically, the solution must fit the bathroom layout with possible slope directions as well as it must fit the tile materials used. The ACO ShowerDrain product range offers both the more traditional point drainage solution (gullies), where slope from all sides is needed, as well as line drainage solution (channels), where the slope only has to be one directional. Especially with luxurious large dimensioned tiles and marble materials the ACO ShowerDrain channels are the ultimate solutions. A typical average value for this is 0.15 l/s, and 70 % of the shower heads have a maximum capacity of less than 0.3 l/s. This means that a shower drain with this flow-rate can be combined with most of the shower heads available on the market. Unlike this average value, the standard ACO ShowerDrain channel has a minimum flow-rate of 0.4 l/s and can therefore be used to drain off the water produced by even higher capacity shower heads. EN defines minimum flow-rates for floor drains. The value for DN 50 floor drains is 0.8 l/s. This figure has to be achieved with accumulation of 20 mm above the grating (see figure below). 20 mm accumulation levels can usually be easily achieved with floor drains because the floor slopes in from four sides to the drain. In this brochure you will find three flow rates for each product, of which one is according to EN 1253 and the other two are the recommended practical flow rates depending on the application. The flow rates for shower channels at the entrance are lower because no overshooting of water can be allowed. 6 ACO ShowerDrain Water-proofing for shower channels 1. Channels without flange Seepage water may penetrate through the tile joints. Normally, concrete slab is water-tight and the penetrated water will evaporate. With non-water-resistant slabs such as wood, this method is not applicable. Channels with flange and waterproofing shall be used in this case. Available for ShowerDrain C Evaporation Tiles Tile glue Concrete 2. Channels with flange without seepage drainage Seepage water may penetrate through the tile joints and is retained between the thin-bed sealing and the tiles. The penetrated water will evaporate. Channels with wall flange (vertical flanges) Shower channels with wall flanges provide an additional protection against leaking problems in the very sensitive wall and floor joints. Available for ShowerDrain E and ShowerDrain C Evaporation Tiles Tile glue Water proofing Concrete Noise transfer The ACO ShowerDrain has been tested pursuant to DIN 4109 and SIA 181 to determine its enhanced noise transfer levels. Tests were carried out by the Fraunhofer Institute IBP which is ac- credited by DAP pursuant to EN ISO/ICE The impact sound noise level (water hitting the floor plate) was measured at 27 db(a). DIN 4109 and VDI 4100 specify 30 db(a), which means that the ShowerDrain product line easily satisfies the standard criteria. The shower drains even comply with noise protection level II for apartments in apartment blocks pursuant to VDI regulation

11 ACO ShowerDrain E ACO quality The ACO ShowerDrain individual components are firmly welded with each other. Therefore, leakages cannot develop, neither by extreme stress nor by wear. Flexible grating design The range of grating designs enables the appearance of the room to be changed at a later date by simply replacing the gratings. The illuminated Lightline version can also be retrofitted to create very interesting colour and lighting effects. Electro-polished surface All the shower channels ACO ShowerDrain E and the matching gratings are electro-polished. Electro-polishing involves a physical process to gently create a surface with a high gloss finish. Polishing creates a shiny pore-free surface which reduces cleaning and maintenance to a minimum: water and soap residues can be easily removed from the grating and the channel surfaces. The ground appearance of the channel is still structurally visible even after electro-polishing and provides long-term protection of the shiny appearance. Large cleaning section After removing the dual-body odour seal, the entire pipe section is available. For this reason, a cleaning spiral can be inserted without problems in the case of pipe blockage. Following colours can be chosen: Blue, Red, Green or Rainbow. Function of illumination is very easy: As soon as sufficient water has accumulated in the channel, the circuit connects to the contacts of the LED modules and the LEDs start glowing. After a delay of several minutes, the illumination switches off if no more water is entering the channel. 27 ACO ShowerDrain E The Walk-in solution applications When leaving the shower area after taking a shower, often leaves a trace of water. This can lead to dangerous situations on slippery bathroom floors, even hours after the use of the shower. The use of towels or anti-slip grates to stand on, or a bath mat is not always comfortable since these get wet as well and form obstacles on the bathroom floor. ACO introduces a new solution for this application, the ACO ShowerDrain Walk-in. For safety, comfort and aesthetics, the Walk-in is fitted with a wooden grating. The ACO Walk-in solution consists basically of two components: a wooden grating and a stainless steel tray with integrated PUR substructure element. Optionally the tray is available with a drain connection which allows the usage of the tray as a fully-fledged drainage point. In addition, the version with drain can be equipped with a combination of a glass/mineral grating and a wooden grating with reduced dimensions. The applications for Walk-in solutions without drain are shower areas with drainage inside the shower and sauna facilities. The Walk-in solutions with drainage connection can be installed in all areas where shower water has to be drained or little water has to be retained and drained. 34 ACO ShowerDrain C ACO ShowerDrain C functional design The ShowerDrain C series is characterised by modern design and perfect functionalality. The basic is the high quality stainless steel which is used for the production of the shower channel itself, gully and grating. The foul air trap is made out of polypropylene. The steel parts are pasivated; the gratings are brushed to the silk gloss. 35 ACO ShowerDrain C Low construction height The standard model of ACO ShowerDrain C 50 mm of water column in the foul air trap) has a construction height only 92 mm. The lowered model (30 mm of water column in the foul air trap) has incredible construction height of only 65 mm. If integrated foul air trap not needed, it is possible to install ACO ShowerDrain C only with the spigot. In this case, the construction height is equal to the height of the channel only 18 mm. These values enable very wide application of ACO ShowerDrain C in the modern new buildings and buildings under reconstruction. Easy maintenance The user s comfort is increased by the efficiency of the foul air trap and its easy cleaning. Syphon (foul air trap) is made out of plastics. The reliable seal is injection-moulded together with the foul air trap. Due to this construction, there is no risk of losing of the sealing, or another malfunction. The foul air trap can be easily removed from the shower channel. It is easy to disassamble it into two separate parts and clean it by hand or in a dish washer. Versions of ACO ShowerDrain C The shower drain is made in width of 70 mm, in seven lengths 585 mm, 685 mm, 785 mm, 885 mm, 985 mm, 1085 mm and 1185 mm. with standard and lowered height with or without vertical or horizontal flange with or without foul air trap The offer consists of five elegant stainless steel grates in version of one or three parts. The three parts grates are specified for the installation under the door. The grates have a perfect surface finishing. They are treated by pasivation and brushed to the silk gloss. All the ShowerDrain C gratings are silk gloss gratings. The silk gloss gives a smooth surface with a semi gloss finish. The ShowerDrain C gratings are therefore easy to maintain as water and soap residues can be easily removed. Gratings in three parts When is the shower channel located at the shower door, the channel has limited access because of the shower door hinge/frame part. For this application, some of the ACO ShowerDrain C can be supplied with a 3-piece grating. This enables installation of the channel under the door, whilst it is still possible to remove (the middle part of) the grating for cleaning. The stainless steel ShowerDrain C gratings have an unique shape in which the middle part of the grating is lower than the edges. This reduces the risk of overshooting of water significantly. 35

46 ACO ShowerDrain F ACO ShowerDrain F flexible installation The new ACO ShowerDrain F range consists of two parts. The first part of the shower drain is the gully body with foul air trap. This is equipped with a flange, enabling reliable connection with the waterproof membrane by screwing. The second part is the channel itself and the grate, which is only 8 mm high. The main advantage of the ACO ShowerDrain F range is the channel with the grate of the same height as the tiles. Like that the channel position can be chosen when tiles are already being laid. There is a 10 mm tolerance of the channel vs. the gully in all four directions. The same as ACO ShowerDrain C also the range F has a high flow rate, a very low construction height and easy maintenance. The base is stainless steel, used for production of the shower drain, the gully and the grate. The foul air trap is made from plastics. Stainless steel parts have been finished with pickle passivating; grates have been silk gloss brushed. 47 ACO ShowerDrain F Variability of shower drain location The ACO ShowerDrain F is only 8 mm high. It is the same height as or lower than most standard floor tiles. It is installed together with tiles laying, after floor insulation. That enables a relatively big variability of the shower drain body positioning, i.e. up to 10 mm or maximum 3 in all directions. Due to this fact the complicated measuring and tiles layout counting and consequent tiles cutting are avoided. The final appearance is always perfect. Low construction height The ACO ShowerDrain F construction height in its standard version (50 mm water column in the odour trap) is only 87 mm. The building height of the lowered version (30 mm water column in the odour trap) is the incredible 67 mm. Optimum cleaning option ACO floor drains also satisfy as far as hygiene is concerned. The odour seal can be taken out completely just by turning slightly and pulling afterwards. Then, an optimum pipe cleaning is possible. As the drains do not have any reductions at inlet and outlet, this drain system offers an optimum revision opening. In addition, the drain body is emptied completely by the flush-with-floor arrangement of the drain socket and the flushing out of foreign bodies is made easier. The top section is tiled locally with a floor covering, e. g. your tile which is used throughout the entire bathroom. The floor image is thus not discontinued, drainage of wastewater is carried out via the surrounding cover slots. The max permissible tile height incl. file adhesive is 11.5 mm. Naturally, the version with optional surface is also available for the thin bed sealing. Thin bed sealing To avoid damages to the basic structure of a building, a reliable sealing of the shower cannot be dispensed with. 62 ACO ShowerDrain Wal-Selecta Wal-Selecta cast iron gully bodies for bath drainage Wal-Selecta floor drains are made of cast iron with graphite flakes pursuant to DIN This is an iron-carbon alloy in which the carbon is incorporated within the metallic ground mass in the form of flakes. This graphite lattice gives the cast iron its superb corrosion resistance. This special cast iron therefore has an excellent track record in drainage applications. 64 ACO ShowerDrain EG 150 ACO ShowerDrain EG 150 stainless steel gullies The ACO ShowerDrain EG 150 gully series offers various advantages for a wide range of applications. The gullies can be used for construction and renovation of single-family houses just as well as in public buildings. Their minimalistic design and blasted surfaces make them very suitable for contemporary design bathrooms The robust body and massive upper surface and stainless steel foul air trap guarantee a problem free long term operation. The low height of the gully body makes the FG gullies suitable for both new construction and renovation. FG gullies are available in dimensions 100 x 100 mm, 150 x 150 mm, 200 x 200 mm as well as Ø 110 mm, especially for resin floors. All FG gullies have foul air trap with water trap of 50 mm according to EN 1253 and lockable versions are available for public areas.
