1 atlantic Monsoon gutters CI/SfB August 2008 (37) Uniclass L7314:G34 complete aluminium eaves assemblies with fascia, soffits and rainwater systems using standard or bespoke details Bailey Atlantic Monsoon is a steel box gutter lined with a seamless modern polyolefine membrane. The result is a cost effective, factory fabricated rainwater disposal solution which, when incorporated into an aluminium eaves assembly, provides the benefits of polyolefine lining with the strength and cost effectiveness of steel. Eaves that incorporate Atlantic Monsoon concealed gutters benefit from trouble free joints and efficient rainwater flow and can be complemented by Bailey s wide range of aluminium downpipes. Bailey supplies complete aluminium eaves assemblies with fascia, soffits and rainwater systems using standard or bespoke details.

2 Trim line Barratt Apartment Aspects, Chelmsford Bailey atlantic monsoon gutters By combining Bailey Eaves Systems with integrated Monsoon gutters, designers and architects achieve unparalleled aesthetic freedom with long lasting, trouble free rainwater management. The eaves, which can be shaped and installed to suit the aesthetic requirements of the project, carry robust and effective concealed gutter systems that efficiently remove rainwater from the buildings. Because Bailey Monsoon Atlantic Gutters use a modern polyolefine membrane installed to provide a seamless flush jointing, the opportunities for failure or channel blocking are all but eliminated. Monsoon Atlantic Gutters provide maximum drainage efficiency yet are fully integrated into the Bailey Eaves System and the roofing envelope.

3 Bailey atlantic gutter Performance Polyolefine is an extremely tough and durable material so Bailey Atlantic is highly resistant to damage during and after installation and to weathering in use. The material is strong and hot air welding results in joins stronger than the material itself. It is thermally stable, retaining flexibility across a range from -40C to 130C with excellent puncture resilience. Appearance Light grey 1mm thick Atlantic membrane bonded to 0.6mm to 1.5mm thick galvanised seals to the substrate. Safety Bailey Atlantic contains no chlorides, fluorides or plasticisers, resulting in a completely environmentally neutral and chemically inert product. The installation of Atlantic requires no gas bottles, flames or boilers and is safe and clean, reducing risk and improving hazard assessment and thus reducing insurance premiums for installers. Sustainability One of the development objectives for Bailey Monsoon Atlantic Gutter was to produce a material free from adverse effects on the environment. This has been approached in several ways. Firstly the production of Bailey Atlantic Gutters has none of the potentially harmful environmental factors that result during the manufacture of PVC membranes. Bailey Atlantic contains no chlorides or HCFCs. Secondly it is energy efficient during installation. Heat guns are set at 500C to 600C and are used only as required. There are no carcinogenic fumes as is the case with other materials. Thirdly all production waste is immediately recycled and most of the installation waste and packaging can be returned to the factory for recycling. Economics The economic arguments for using Bailey Atlantic Gutter are very strong. Because of its very rapid installation, contractor s on-site time is much reduced. Technical composition The Bailey Atlantic Gutter liner is manufactured from 100% polyolefine. The result is a membrane which is long lasting, environmentally sound, quicker and safer to install than older gutter systems. It also surpasses the performance of all membranes used previously, being particularly tough mechanically and hence resistant to accidental damage during and after installation. Furthermore it has a cold temperature flexibility of -40C. BaileyeaVeSSyStemS

4 gutter sizes Gutter sizing depends on the anticipated maximum rate of rainfall flow for the length of gutter under consideration. Different gutter profiles will have different individual capacities. Bailey is able to carry out calculations for flow rates and gutter sizes. A gutter should be slightly wider than it is deep. Within this general rule deeper, narrower gutters perform better hydraulically than shallower, wider gutters. The maximum depth of gutter is determined by its length, the location and number of outlets. Bailey Atlantic Gutters can be supplied in almost any width and profile. Atlantic liner Atlantic installation Atlantic membrane is factory laminated to the metal substrate, however to ensure flow performance joints require onsite welding. Atlantic welding Every lap is sealed with hot air; it is not necessary to clean or use solvents before welding. Welding is carried out using a hand held gun, with the temperature set between 500C and 600C depending on the ambient temperature. A cover flashing of Atlantic 301 membrane is welded between joints in the gutter. Cover flashing is minimum 200mm wide, the flashing is heat tacked to the sole of the gutter, approximately 40mm from the edge. The remaining 40mm is welded, starting at the corners, by continuously moving the gun and roller together to obtain a small bead. This indicates that the weld has been carried out correctly. This principle is adopted for all welding of Atlantic membranes. After completion all welds are checked with a seam probe and any unwelded areas resealed. Internal and external corners All internal and external corners use Atlantic preformed corners, internal code D-510, external D-511. baileyeavessystems
