18 PREPARATION FOR CONSTRUCTION The California Building Code (CBC) and California Fire Code (CFC) require the following before construction can proceed: Site and size of the building Building walls and partitions Fire alarm and fire protection Construction materials and assemblies Code compliant egress 18

19 DURING CONSTRUCTION Safety precautions required per CFC Chapter 11: Fire alarm Fire suppression Maintained Egress Building occupants trained for special conditions and emergency procedures Special precautions required per CFC chapter 3304: Waste disposal removal (includes construction debris) Combustible materials must be properly stored and removed from site at the end of the day Fire watch criteria and training (by contractor) Hot works permit operations Temporary power outages and building systems shut down 19

20 POST CONSTRUCTION The corridors will be maintained free of equipment and furniture per California Fire Code and California Code of regulations Title 19. Code violations status shall be documented and sent to the office of the California State Fire Marshal for annual review 20

21 SPACE IMPACTS 1. Building renovations occur in 4 phases 2. Temporary relocation assignments are organized by phase 3. There are no centrally held space vacancies on campus 4. Construction areas will need to be vacated 5. CNAS space decisions and assignments are coordinated by the Office of the Dean (via Deborah McWilliams) 21
