2 Porcupine Porcupine is a revolutionary and versatile concrete block retaining wall system. It needs no mortar and requires the minimum of plant and machinery for installation. The individual Porcupine element is an interlocking curved concrete block, which achieves its stability by the splines on the top surface of one block matching those on the bottom of another. Porcupine is a versatile and economic solution for effective and visually appealing retaining walls. Ease of Construction Porcupine can be laid by relatively unskilled labour. Needs no mortar and requires the minimum of plant and machinery for installation. Unique series of splines interlock to create a stable and strong structure. Can be built with a variety of different slope angles. Wall heights can be increased using reinforced earth techniques or mass concrete backfill. 3 The choice of position for the interlocking spines gives Porcupine its versatility making it undoubtedly the most adaptable and economic solution for effective and visually appealing walls Benefits & Features A variety of options are available to alleviate the problems from: Insufficient space for installation Steep slopes above the top of the wall Low bearing capacity of the foundation soil Heights in excess of 3m Low factor of safety against sliding Colour Availability A really green effect can be achieved by planting appropriate hanging or climbing plants above or below the bas of the wall. Another option we offer is to add colours to the concrete mix during manufacture. Three different face-designs are also available: smooth-faced, split-faced, and round. All faces can be either mixed-and-matched with eachother to achieve more unique look, or used on their own. APPLICATIONS The Porcupine system lends itself to a variety of applications from industrial premises to office developments to housing estates and recreational areas. For normal retaining purposes, Porcupine walls can be built to a height of metres at slope angles varying between 82.5 and 67.5 degrees from the horizontal (7.5 and 22.5 degrees from the vertical). Smooth & Round Face Split-faced Available colours for Porcupine in dispalyed order: grey, charcoal, buff and red CONSTRUCTION Where necessary, Porcupine walls can be additionally supported with concrete backing or geogrid reinforced soil slopes (picture below). 5 Revetment Systems RPC Contracts offer bespoke concrete services ranging from precast concrete sea defences and wave walls to stepped concrete revetments, which combine erosion control with increased amenity areas. Armorflex Dycel Solid Southampton Armorflex Armorflex is a flexible, interlocking matrix of concrete blocks of uniform size and weight connected by a series of cables which pass longtitudinally through preformed ducts in each unit. Dycel Dycel is a fully interlocking precast concrete revetment system designed to provide protection against embankment erosion above and below water level whilst ensuring the flexibility to cope with variations in embankment profile. Armorloc Armorloc concrete interlocking blocks are specifically designed to control erosion and provide easy, economical installation when heavy equipment is not feasible or cannot be used due to confined or hard to reach areas. Dytap Dytap is a system of precisely interlocking precast concrete units which provide protective surface with visual appearance of natural random stone with the installation benefits of precast concrete.
