Building Codes: 2006 International Building Code (IBC) 2009 International Building Code (IBC) 2006 International Residential Code (IRC) 2009 International Residential Code (IRC) 2.2. Properties: Structural Performance Durability Surface Burning Decay Resistance Termite Resistance 3.0 Description 3.1. General Fiberon deck boards are intended for use as a walking surface on exterior decks, balconies, porches, and walkways, including stairs as further defined herein Materials and Processes Deck boards are extruded thermoplastic composite comprised of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and wood fiber. The Horizon deck boards are co-extruded with an HDPE core and HDPE capstock Finished deck boards have a solid rectangular profile, up to 5.4 inch wide and inch thick. Edges are rounded with a inch to 0.25 inch radius. Home Select and Portico Advantage deck boards have a doublearch profile on the bottom side. All other deck boards have a full rectangular cross-section. See Figures 1 through Deck boards with a full rectangular crosssection are also produced in a nominal 4 inch width (3.5 inch actual). See Figure All deck boards may be produced with a grooved side to accommodate installation with a hidden fastener system. Grooves are continuous on each side of the deck board, formed in the extrusion process. See Figures 5 through 9 and 11 through Deck boards may be manufactured in the following colors: All deck boards except fiberon Premium Grain; Cascade Redwood, Portico/Distributor Redwood, Slate Gray, Portico/Distributor Gray, Buff Cedar, Portico/Distributor Cedar, Golden Cedar, Tropics Jatoba, Tropics Mahogany, Portico/Distributor Brown and Tuscan Walnut, Western Redwood fiberon Premium Grain and CertainTeed EverNew 20 deckboards; Driftwood Gray, Western Redwood, Tuscan and Walnut. Horizon, CertainTeed EverNew PT and Home Depot Sanctuary deckboards; Slate, Brick, Sand, Bronze, Tropics Ipe and Tropics Rosewood.

2 3.7. Fiberon Hidden Fasteners are utilized for installation of grooved deck boards. Hidden fasteners are inch thick stainless steel finished with a black oxide coating. Each fastener is approximately 1 inch long with a single screw hole for fastening to the support framing. Two tabs bent in opposing direction engage both slots in the sides of adjacent grooved deck boards. 4.0 Performance Characteristics 4.1. All Fiberon deck boards are rated for a uniform live load of 100 lbs/ft. 2 when installed on support framing spaced 16 inches on center Deck boards used as stair treads are rated for the code-required concentrated load equal to 300 lbs when installed as a continuous deck board over a minimum of three supports with a maximum 12 inch support span Four (4) inch deck boards shall not be used as stair treads Grooved deck boards shall not be used as stair treads All Deck boards have a wind uplift resistance rating of 100 lbs/ft. 2 when installed in accordance with the fastening schedule of Table 1 on support framing spaced 16 inches on center Fiberon deck boards have a flame spread index as indicated when tested according to ASTM E 84. The referenced criteria, AC174, requires a flame spread index not exceeding 200. The following deck boards, both Solid and Grooved, have a flame spread index of 115; Veranda Portico fiberon Professional Tropics fiberon Tropics Veranda Tropics fiberon Home Select Portico Advantage Fiberon Premium Grain (aka CertainTeed EverNew 20) The following deck boards, both Solid and Grooved, have a flame spread index of 70; Horizon (aka Home Depot Sanctuary, CertainTeed EverNew PT) Page 2 of Fiberon deck boards are deemed equivalent to preservative treated or naturally durable wood for resistance to weathering effects, attack from termites and fungus decay. 5.0 Installation Installation shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions and this report. Where differences occur between this report and the manufacturer's installation instructions, this report shall govern Deck boards shall be installed in accordance with the fastening schedule as defined in Table Grooved deck boards shall be installed utilizing Fiberon Hidden Fasteners as defined in Table Hidden fasteners are installed between adjacent deck boards. One fastener is required at the end of each deck board and every framing support (16 inches on center.) throughout the deck board length (field) The outside edge of the first deck board located at the perimeter of the deck shall be fastened to the support framing with a #10 x 2-1/4 inch deck screw at each support (16 inches on center) See Figure 14 for additional details on installation. 6.0 Supporting Evidence 6.1. Manufacturer's drawings and installation instructions Reports of testing demonstrating compliance with ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria for Deck Board Span Ratings and Guardrail Systems (Guards and Handrails), AC174 effective June 1, Quality control manual in accordance with ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria for Quality Control Manuals, AC Conditions of Use The Fiberon Decking applications identified in this report are deemed to comply with the intent of the provisions of the referenced building codes subject to the following conditions Deck boards are limited to use in Type V-B (5B) construction.

3 7.2. Deck boards placed at an angle other than 90 degrees to the supporting joist will require spacing such that the span of the deck boards does not exceed those indicated in sections 4.1, 4.3 and The wind uplift resistance rating recognized in this report is based on attachment to treated Southern Pine framing (specific gravity, G=0.55). Installation on wood framing with a lesser specific gravity may result in a lower wind uplift rating Compatibility of fasteners with the supporting structure including chemically treated wood is not within the scope of this report Where required by the building official, engineering calculations and details shall be provided. The calculations shall verify that the anchorage complies with the building code for the type of framing and condition of the supporting construction All products recognized in this report are manufactured in New London, North Carolina in accordance with the manufacturer's approved quality control system with inspections by PFS Corporation (IAS - AA-652). Page 3 of Identification Fiberon deck boards produced in accordance with this report shall be identified with labeling on the individual deck boards that includes the following information: 8.1. The mark of the independent inspection agency, PFS Corporation (IAS - AA-652) The ATI Code Compliance Research Report Number () 9.0 Use 9.1. Approval of building products and/or materials can only be granted by a building official having legal authority in the specific jurisdiction where approval is sought s shall not be used in any manner that implies an endorsement of the product by ATI Reference to the Architectural Testing internet web site address at is recommended to ascertain the current version and status of this report.
