2 WHAT ARE POWDER COATINGS? / WHY POWDER VERSUS LIQUID? INTRODUCTION 2 / 7 INTRODUCTION If you are an architect or designer, now is your time to revel in the freedom of choice, unlimited color palette, vast texture variation options & performance versatility of powder coating. Our unique patented powder coating process & finish conquers environment, weather and long-term wear while satisfying the whim and vision of the most discerning professional designers and architects worldwide. WHAT ARE POWDER COATINGS FREE-FLOWING DRY POWDER / DO NOT REQUIRE SOLVENT / APPLIED ELECTROSTATICALLY & CURED There are unique benefits associated with powder coatings for architectural design projects, and this guide identifies the aesthetic, performance and environmental attributes of using powder coating finishings vs. traditional liquid. Join the new generation of architects who are adopting powder coating for their leading commercial, industrial, government, residential and institutional buildings around the globe. AESTHETIC PERFORMANCE ENVIRONMENTAL WHY POWDER VS LIQUID Powder coatings achieve a higher quality, more dependable and durable alternative to traditional overlays & liquid applications. Powder coatings provide you with a more upscale finish that has the custom-color capability of liquid coatings, with the eco friendly benefits of powder. The process delivers a more accurate, more consistent finish that saves your project money and reduces overall building costs because of the lifespan of the finish, with no need for touch ups. Our high-volume powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. The coating is applied evenly and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a hard finish. The result is that it is tougher and more weather resistant than conventional paint.

4 DURABILITY & HARDNESS / SPRING COATING COMPARISON PART TWO : PERFORMANCE 4 / 7 THE 3 DESIGN PILLARS : PERFORMANCE DURABILITY & HARDNESS Broader & more durable offerings make today s powder coatings a more popular choice. SPRING COATING COMPARISON The benefits of powder coating are well known in certain parts of the market and it is recognised as the finish of choice for conductive materials where an anti-weathering, anti-corrosion, anti-abrasion, flexible, formable, oil, chemical, solvent and stain resistant finish are required. These benefits are now available to the non-conductive materials market with the potential to open up a substantial field of new architectural design freedom to building specifiers whilst meeting not only environmental objectives, but durability + maintenance issues as well. Powder coatings have a well-deserved reputation for hardness and durability. They are widely used in the appliance and automotive industries, as well as on lawnmowers, mountain bikes, motorcycles, farm equipment, patio furniture and other well worn items. For this reason, powder coatings are preferred for finishings that will be in direct contact with the public or outdoor environment. Windows and door frames, storefront signage, railings, siding and fencing are some common architectural applications where the hardness of powder coatings are very beneficial. The result is a uniform, durable, high quality finish that is known as powder coating. Our exterior-grade powders offer excellent weatherability, including color & gloss retention and humidity resistance. BEFORE AFTER FASTER CURING NO SAGGING NO RUNNING NO V.O.C. S NO SOLVENTS

5 GOING GREEN / PRODUCT SAVING MONEY RANGE / / SAVING PRODUCT MONEY RANGE PART THREE : ENVIRONMENTAL 5 / 87 THE 3 DESIGN PILLARS : ENVIRONMENTAL GOING GREEN The drive to energy efficiency, sustainability of materials, and reduction in whole-life cost of buildings has led to an increasing amount of innovation in materials and products for the construction industry. With these requirements in mind, Cadillac Coatings Canada Inc. has developed a patented process for factory powder coating non-conductive substrates, coating a diverse range of products. The powder coating process produces no hazardous materials - no VOCs (volatile organic compounds), no solvents, no off gassing, and no HAPs (hazardous air pollutants) - and can be can be incorporated for health conscious surfaces. In addition, powder coating ensures minimal wastage and allows for recycling of overspray on-site. Powder coating, when used to coat interior wood-based products, offers tremendous savings in processing times. At Cadillac Coatings, we can turn around an uncoated board product to a coated product that can be packed and shipped in as little as one or two minutes, a fraction of the processing time for conventional spray-applied coatings. 6 LOWER EMISSIONS / CARBON FOOTPRINT / COATING TECHNOLOGY IMPACT TABLE PART THREE : ENVIRONMENTAL 6 / 7 LOWER EMISSIONS Powder coatings are made without solvents. Consequently, they emit ultra low levels of VOCs when they are manufactured and factory-applied to a metal or non conductive substrate. Liquid coatings, on the other hand, do contain solvents and, consequently, emit VOCs. In North America, some applicators have overcome VOC emission challenges by incinerating the VOCs emitted in production. While this process is efficient, it still does emit carbon. Powder coatings have other environmental advantages. For instance, there is less waste in the application and recovery of powder coatings, which may make powder coating production lines more efficient. Powder coatings also require less manufacturing and transportation energy due to their size and weight. Liquid coatings are manufactured and shipped in solvents (liquid), which adds to their mass and weight. This has obvious implications for packaging and shipping, and adds to the amount of energy needed to get liquid coatings from the factory on to the finished metal. A true sustainable alternative to liquid finishes.
